This past season he missed most of the first half but really came on in the second half. Huntelaar has been nothing but a goal machine for 4 years now almost matching a goal a game pace. What has Santa Cruz done. Sat on the bench for three seasons at Bayern when even Claudio Pizarro and an aging Roy MaKaay were preferred over him. When he played, he offered little. So please, explain to me how your argument on this issue is stronger than mine. Huntelaar has scored over 100 goals in the last 4 years and Gomez has scored over 30 for Stuttgart in 1/5 seasons. Cruz scored 20 goals over the entire campaign for Blackburn and a handful of goals over three years at Bayern. I don't see where Santa Cruz compares favorably. All he has proven to me is that he is another Anelka. Capable of scoring goals for a mid table outfit but never having what it takes to make an impact for a bonafide contender. It's not just about cutting it in the EPL, it's about cutting it at the top of the EPL and in the CL. Huntelaar and Gomez have also proven they can score for their countries although Gomez has gone cold at the Euros and RVN is preventing Huntelaar from showcasing his skills. I would be happy with Santa Cruz as a third striker provided we still bought a #1 striker, but even then, Tevez would be my preferred choice for #3 striker over Santa Cruz.
