09/10 Manchester United Away Kit
The new United away kit has been launched today and is available for pre-order.
The 09/10 away shirt was leaked earlier and we saw then that it was based on the same template as the new home kit, using a blue V stripe on a black shirt for outfield players and a awesome looking blue shirt for keepers (with a black V stripe).
Photos after the jump.
The kit is now available for pre-order – get yours here.

Awful, wish the blue was anoher colour ideally red.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:05
I think it looks class

Response to NicoQB from the last post:
Theres a newbie section that, if you havent joined before, you wouldnt know about. Its closed from the public, but its a much smaller place(only 2 forums in the section, Football section and a general chat section) but arguably just as good if not better then the main part of redcafe.
July 29th, 2009 at 10:12
Im going to be getting the new ESPN channel for free
July 29th, 2009 at 10:23
Hate it.Whats with that strip,i saw it on barca’s uniform last season and its also on chelsea’s kit.Even our home kit dint impress me.
July 29th, 2009 at 11:11
Yucksssssss……..Just awefulll…. Definitely not going to buy one… Not even the duplicate on from road sides….
That Blue should at least be replaced by RED…. (IMHO)
July 29th, 2009 at 11:13
Continuing from the last post… Reply to
@Scorp: I am just fed up of this Youth policy and all talk…. Look at Arsenal Team I mean they are all youth… They have probably the best in the business in term as far as spotting the young kid is concern.. They play may be the best brand of football.. I would say second only to Barca (and definitely better than MAN UTD) but, the question lies that What have they won??? None…
And tbh I would like to Mourinho in my dugout any given day rather than having that Kid loving Arsen Wenger (no disrespect to the man he has constraint due to its rubbish board)….
And its not about Youth only its about the building the TEAM and to be honest he has proven at Porto that He Certainly Can!!!!
And to get you back to point by having youth and giving time to build a team and all Man UTD will call for a trouble. As 4 yrs without trophy and then imagine the Level of Debts….
And that is the prime reason I want him… Because for Man UTD’s survival the continuing success is the necessity which the Self Proclaimed Special One can Guarantee…
After all who can dare to say such things (quotes about Chelsea and Himself)
“Since I left I became champion again but they have not been champions again. I keep winning and they don’t.”
I just love his Arrogance, Attitude, Ego and moreover the CV to back all of it….
July 29th, 2009 at 11:41
@Onkar: True that
July 29th, 2009 at 11:54
@Onkar: I left a reply to you in the last post
. Anyway i’ll copy paste it.
Well if we want to have him as the manager because purely of the success that we crave for , then it is like we are selling the soul of the club to the devil.
No one wants Mourinho to bring up kids like Wenger does, that is not what we want, a mix of the two. Yes, you do get in world class players when they are available but do reap the rewards of having an academy. That is what Sir Busby and Sir Ferguson stuck to all their years, isn’t it. Mourinho is a damn good manager, no question about that but somewhere down the line we do need to question if he would fit in with the ethos of the club.
July 29th, 2009 at 12:12
Is the Boca game on satellite TV at all? Or could someone direct me to a live stream and tell me the time of kick-off. Im stoked to check out the new look team against some good opposition.
July 29th, 2009 at 12:17
awful, but since its united. it’ll probably take some to get use to.
July 29th, 2009 at 12:38
@Scorp: How is letting mourinho(a manager who will win us trophies)manage the club selling the soul of the club to the devil?Do you think ferguson is there just so we can nuture the young players, no.Fergie is there because he’s the best bet that united will succeed and win trophies. And exactly what are these ethics of the club?I’ll tell you my ethic as a united fan, win win win.If that can be achieved by playing attacking football well and good,if not then whatever gets us those silverware is fine as well.
July 29th, 2009 at 13:22
@Scorp:
Craving for success is not the right word buddy… I clearly mentioned that its not our wish but its the necessity that we are facing in the wake of the Debt that we have… Just try and understand buddy that we can only boast this tradition and soul and so on that you are talking if we survive. And, believe me if we are not winning or not continuing the winning ways then we may end up under the increased debts that’s all..
Moreover, try and understand one simple rule of the business that any debt laden company needs to perform or that leveraging will kill that company… And, unfortunately this rule applies to all the business including the Football Business (unfortunately)…
Secondly, please come out of the history and past mate and be real. I mean try and be honest while answering one question, do you feel that in today’s world of football any manager at the club of the size of ours will get 7 yrs to win his first league title specially if the club is servicing the debts amounting to GBP 600 mn. The answer is big NO. Even, Mr. Ferguson would have not got that amount of time in today’s world.
Try to understand one thing bro… That the times of Busby’s is already gone and Fergie’s will soon go but Man UTD will remain for ever and to keep the soul of this great club alive we want to have a manager who will keep this great club at place where its belong to… That on TOP of the GAME.
I repeat again if we would have been zero debt company I would inclined to VOTE for the MOYES. But, in today’s situation its only one name for me and that’s self proclaimed Special One ‘ Jose Mourinho’.
July 29th, 2009 at 13:26
@spizzy: Then, there is a serious difference at the way we look at the club. I wouldn’t want some glory seeking manager to come and win trophies and forget about the rest. Don’t get me wrong, obviously as United supporters we have the right to expect our team to win every match but not at the expense of style and class of the manager. I just detest the way Chelsea players behave on the pitch and that has been since Mourinho era, that is the kind of arrogance he instilled in them.
July 29th, 2009 at 13:29
forgive me if im wrong.. but isn’t this years kits a one season ‘wonder’ if we’re getting a new sponsor for next season then surely that means that we will also get a new kit. either way i think it looks pretty good, but like someone else said a red ‘V’ would have been better, also, the shade of Blue is much more like that or the Barca away kit, would have preferred the Euro away kit blue. but meh either way, both of the keeper kits of looked good. just hope the team performs well. really want to see how Valencia does against Boca.
July 29th, 2009 at 13:37
@Will: I think we’ll have the same kit with AON on the front instead.
July 29th, 2009 at 13:38
@Onkar: Onkar, I think you pretty much answered the question yourself when you said Sir Fergie will be gone and all that is left is Man Utd and we should try to preserve its soul . That is precisely what the Anti-Mourinho camp is saying. Why change what the club stands for when clearly Mourinho is going to do that?
Also, am sure Glazers understand that we need to invest in players and the club to service their debts, so obviously the cash for the new manager to spend will be there. We even don’t know how the debt is leveraged. Who ever the new manager is, if it takes him 7 years to win anything then obviously he is not good enough in the first place. In Fergie’s case it was different. He had to start from scratch, he had to set up a system.
This topic has polarised opinions and no way we’ll agree on this topic
July 29th, 2009 at 13:44
The goal keeper kits look pretty good.
July 29th, 2009 at 13:47
THAT KIT IS SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!
Cant believe it, alright Im in for history, but this!? This kit?! Come on Nike, you can do better than that! Either they have hired some 2 year olds as stylists, or they all are Scousers who wish only teh worst for us. My God, that kit is awful…
I love the home kit and the two goalie kits though…
July 29th, 2009 at 13:54
@Footy4Eddy: yeah, at least we didn’t go for an orange goalie kit just to distract the opponents ala….
July 29th, 2009 at 13:56
and next season the sponers change and so will the shirt…
July 29th, 2009 at 13:57
How come the nike kits never have a collar anymore, pretty much all the home kits back in the day from 94 to 99 were just class, the collar just added to its identity, a special frenchman used it as his trademark, just why nike dont bring it back is confusing.
Overall though this kit isnt that bad, better than the white one from last season but imo the best away kit we have had in years was the black one from 07/08, that was a bloody class kit aswell.
July 29th, 2009 at 14:12
@Scorp: Absolutely…. I agree to disagree on this….
So, now we can move on and talk about this shite away kit…..
Till then i will continue my debate with Dan on previous post…..
July 29th, 2009 at 14:20
I guess im the only one that likes this kit…
July 29th, 2009 at 14:20
@Scorp: There’s a difference between a fan and a football purist, a purist would have rather had barca win because they play beautiful football, a purist would even have had arsenal beat us at the semi’s, but no united fan,you included, will say,”i was happy that barca won because of the way they play”.When we beat them at the semi’s two seasons ago, they completely outplayed us but we had a strong defense which they couldn’t breach.Defense is as much a part of football as attack, i would personally rather have an all rounded team, not the likes of madrid and shitty, watch this space, madrid will once again come second to barca, and shitty will be well, shitty.Maybe moyes could come in but I’d rather have a proven winner.
July 29th, 2009 at 14:36
@Dan: I would have liked the kit if it was red insted of blue at the stripes, but as it is right now its horrible…
July 29th, 2009 at 14:37
I like the goalie kit, that black and blue just doesn’t do it for me.Black and red maybe would have been better.
July 29th, 2009 at 15:34
prepare to see a lot of headlines in the vein of “Burnley beaten black and Blue by Utd.”
July 29th, 2009 at 15:52
why does united have a love of the BLUE since the past couple of seasons?
July 29th, 2009 at 16:03
@Alex: We’ve worn blue since almost forever.
http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Manchester_United/Manchester_United-change-kits.html
I think the new kit looks bad ass. Best one since the Black with red trim away kit from a couple of years ago.
July 29th, 2009 at 16:10
@Traverse: yeah but was not that pronounced this decade and are we continuing with our blue kits of last season?
July 29th, 2009 at 16:23
@Alex: Nearly half of our away kits since ever have had blue as the predominant colour. We went 20 years with a plain blue away shirt, so any blue is just going back to what historically has been. I think they are rotating black blue and white as the main colours year after year. No biggie really. Just wish if we’re doing things based on history we go the route of the latest England kit, which is awsome. Or the Munich kit.
July 29th, 2009 at 16:46
@Traverse: Exactly, the kit is the sex!
July 29th, 2009 at 16:48
@Dan:
July 29th, 2009 at 16:50
Anyone know where the game is on telly? In the western bit of europe!!
July 29th, 2009 at 16:53
For the record, like the home kit, but dont like the away one, should have been black and red!
July 29th, 2009 at 16:54
It looks like cathcart will get game time, possibly from the start, my sources tell me.
Good prospect, good lad, lets hope he plays well.

@Dan: Huh? Cathcart? Is this for real?
July 29th, 2009 at 17:04
In unrelated news, Liverpool fans are coming to Oslo next Wednesday to watch Gerrard FC against Lyn. My mission? Piss them off with the “18 titles, Scouse busters” T-shirt.
July 29th, 2009 at 17:06
@Footy4Eddy: Punch Gerrard in the face a bunch of times, and claim you thought he was going to hit you. It’ll stand up in court!
July 29th, 2009 at 17:09
@Traverse: That would be so sweet…
You just gave me a brilliant idea!!!
July 29th, 2009 at 17:10
@Footy4Eddy: Run towards him with a pen, trip up, stab him, then let him hit you, yes, let him hit you, then sue the fucker!
You might be in a bit of pain, but just think, with the money you’ll get, you can redo your face and get lots of girls!
July 29th, 2009 at 17:11
Any news on Valencia’s number yet?
July 29th, 2009 at 17:11
Thanks Dan! Thought it might be, cheers for the confirmation
July 29th, 2009 at 17:13

July 29th, 2009 at 17:14

July 29th, 2009 at 17:15

July 29th, 2009 at 17:17
@Dan: My face already gets me a lot of girls…
But trust me, Ive got a plan. And even though I might suffer a little, Gerrard is gonna suffer more. Just hope I dont get raped by Torres…

Valencia is Number 25.
July 29th, 2009 at 17:35
Valencia is number 25
July 29th, 2009 at 17:35
@Footy4Eddy: Because of crappy shows before games!
July 29th, 2009 at 17:43
Well since Scholes isn’t on, O’Shea is the shittiest player on the pitch.
July 29th, 2009 at 17:48
Man, it hurts me to say this, but Rooney has lost a bit of pace and flair!! and it’s not pre-season lack of fitness, he’s been looking less able to beat a man with pace or dribbling ability for some time now. I hope he can address this this season now he’s gonna be our talisman. He’s definitely young enough.
July 29th, 2009 at 17:52
hahaha o’shea wearing the armband??
July 29th, 2009 at 17:58
@PhillyRed: yeah, I noticed that!
Nice dribble by rooney

July 29th, 2009 at 18:01
i thought when he was taking the freekick he will kick over the goalpost like he always do.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:01
@Dan: Hands up right here! Woke my hamsters up!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:02
Wow so I wasn’t daydreaming. Anderson actually scored! It makes perfect sense….he showed perfect composure for penalties, so it was logical he’d score a free kick. Now we just need goals from him in open play!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:03
credit to valencia for drawing the foul. he’s been good so far! nice speed, ability to beat the defender, and a few good crosses!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:03

July 29th, 2009 at 18:05
aw come on andy, need a better celebration than that! you’ve had long enough to think about it!!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:06
Valencia’s looking sharp!!!
can definitely beat a man and will provide assists as far as we have strikers in the box!!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:06
@PhillyRed: I think one thing that will work in his favour is that he’ll get the Ronaldo rough housing treatment, yet because he isn’t Ronaldo he’ll get many many more freekicks. I’ve been impressed with him so far, considering he’s had one or two training sessions back from holiday. Looks really fast, and will go at defenders. Take note Nani…
July 29th, 2009 at 18:07
@PhillyRed: I think he could not believe it either….it stunned ando as much as it stunned us…
July 29th, 2009 at 18:10
ANDERSON>RIQUELME+BECKHAM+JUNINHO
July 29th, 2009 at 18:11
Browns injured, some things never change
July 29th, 2009 at 18:11
@PhillyRed: I liked it, gave me an orgasm!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:12
Rooney looks out of gas already!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:13
Rooney seems to be off colour…..
July 29th, 2009 at 18:14
@Dan: it might be minor… I hope!
he’s been immense so far!!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:14
I promise you guys a new FIFA 09 video later today. I bet you can guess what it is…
July 29th, 2009 at 18:16
@Dan:
yeahh thats a shame, let’s hope it’s just fergie being overly cautious
July 29th, 2009 at 18:16
@RichmondRed: @Kartikey: he has lost some pace and dribbling ability I tell ya.. I hope it’s a confidence thing and he can regain it!!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:18
Valencia>Ronaldo Official.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:18

July 29th, 2009 at 18:23
Anderson>Beckham+Ronaldo+Juninho+Riquelme
July 29th, 2009 at 18:23
I for one have been very impressed with both Anderson and Valencia and to some degree Fabio…
July 29th, 2009 at 18:24
Valencia-1 goal 1 assist 1 game
ronaldo- 0 goal 0 assist 2 games
There we have it
July 29th, 2009 at 18:24
@Footy4Eddy: I’m sure you are going to have a wank over that goal for many years to come
July 29th, 2009 at 18:25
@Dan: Ronaldo scored a goal. Was a penalty that he won by — surprise, surprise — diving in the box
July 29th, 2009 at 18:26
YAY!!!!
I’m frackin ecstatic at the mo!!!!
Two players break their ducks for United, the first long overdue and the second on his debut!! Wonderful!!
We seem to have a more rigid, yet unpredictable shape and it’s working well. No one is going out of their way to cover for certain players apart from maybe the fullbacks. Can’t wait for the season now, I think we are gonna see the breath-taking attacking football of our title regaing 06/07 season.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:27
@Dan: Ronaldo did score yesterday, but he can still feck off
July 29th, 2009 at 18:28
Valencia looks a really neat player. In a team like ours he’ll get more of the ball, get to go forward more often and he’ll show what he is really capable of. Really its hard to shine on the wing for a club like Wigan but this is a perfect platform for him.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:28
@Red Ranter: Really> i missed it
July 29th, 2009 at 18:28
Anderson scored a goal… I really didnt know how to react, it felt just like Kikos goal against Villa. When he stood over it, I was like: “Why is Andy taking a free-kick?!” When it went in I was like: “OOOH!!! AAAAAAAAAAAH!! FUCK ME!!! AAH, OOH, haaAAAA- hAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAA! OH! MY! FUCKING!!! GODDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“
This is the happiest day in my life, Ive said it time and time again that I have been waiting for Andy to score a goal. And what a cracker!!!
You guys are gonna see a FIFA 09 version of that goal later today, I promise!
Oh, and Tony looks impressive. He is incredibly fast, has flair and is not afraid to take people on. He defends as well, and his crosses are impressive! Nice goal too.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:29
@Gabriel: Could not agree with you more. I too cannot wait for the season: the shape is good and we have a good mixture on the team, and TEAM being the word of emphasis. Oh, Valencia, a true winger, plays both ways…brilliant.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:30
@Red Ranter: YOU BET!!!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:31
@Red Ranter: Sorry for the caps by the way, but I hope you understand me.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:32
Rooney and Macheda look lost out there.
Did Rooney really dive there!?!?! If yes, then shame!
Get read of one diver and the new one emerges…
And I still don’t believe Andy scored! Nooo he is Ronaldo in disguise
July 29th, 2009 at 18:33
God hayley McQueen looks, wow
Id do everything to her
July 29th, 2009 at 18:33
@AndyCR7: Ronaldo could never score such a beautiful free-kick!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:36
@Dan: You figured that out now?
July 29th, 2009 at 18:38
Youtube–>Search–>Anderson–>”Anderson goal vs Boca Audi Cup”–>Download–>Wank, wank. Squek, squek. Orgasm!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:46
Who comes out first: Macheda or Rooney?
July 29th, 2009 at 18:49
Anderson on target…
July 29th, 2009 at 18:50
The PIG’s kicking has been bloody awful, and now it’s cost us. 2 – 1.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:52
@Traverse: +1
July 29th, 2009 at 18:53
fuck, what’s oshea doing on that goal??
July 29th, 2009 at 18:53
c’mon lads!!! we need to get back into the habit of keeping some clean sheets!!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:53
@Traverse: That is something that will always keep him from being class: his kicking and foot skills in general have always been lacking and therefore he will never be good enough as a number one for United in my eyes.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:55
The fastest speeds of the players are being monitored by ESPN, and Rooney is the fastest, then Valencia, then a Boca player then Fabio then Oshea…
July 29th, 2009 at 18:56
can we get some players on who can keep the ball!! everytime we get it, we just give it back!!
July 29th, 2009 at 18:56
Also, Macheda hasn’t really been in the game yet… Get Owen on.
July 29th, 2009 at 18:56
Oh shit…here comes Riquelme…
July 29th, 2009 at 18:56
We are loosing possession too cheaply
July 29th, 2009 at 18:57
@Traverse: Is that pace with the ball??? Cuz that’s what he’s not exhibiting a whole lot anymore, at least not like some seasons back.
July 29th, 2009 at 19:00
@Gabriel: No idea… my Spanish isn’t the best…
July 29th, 2009 at 19:01
Does Macheda have a first touch??? C’mon lad, sharpen up!!
July 29th, 2009 at 19:02
geez, how light is Park??!!
July 29th, 2009 at 19:04
Giggs, Berba and Nani on for Park, Macheda and I think Valencia
July 29th, 2009 at 19:04
Rooney passing and ball control have been terrible
July 29th, 2009 at 19:05
Wtf is Ribery wearing. Did he raid the dressing room of an American fraternity? Could the polo insignia be any larger? Green on orange, really?
July 29th, 2009 at 19:05
hahaha… Cathcart!! That would have been one for the comedy replays!!
July 29th, 2009 at 19:11
@I_Bleed_Red: haha.. it was a bit too bright I must say
i got one of those, although it’s black with a red insigna
July 29th, 2009 at 19:13
Scholes Evra and Flecher for Carrick Anderson and Fabio
July 29th, 2009 at 19:15
thank fuck… we got some possesion players on!! please just give the ball to Berba/Scholes and let’s take back control of this game!!
btw, why do our players keep passing back to Kuczy when they know he can’t kick???
July 29th, 2009 at 19:15
To say PIGs kicking is terrible is an understatement
July 29th, 2009 at 19:23
Giggsy just keeps on looking younger
his runs are still amazing!!
July 29th, 2009 at 19:32
Only watched the last 30min, but by god we were crap. I sincerely hope that we were better other than the distraction of Ando’s and Tony’s goals.
July 29th, 2009 at 19:33
Phew!! We saw it out. We looked tired and sluggish in the second half, probably due to it being pre-season and all that. I hope Fergie runs Rooney ragged till he gets into shape!! geez
Really Impressed with Valencia and happy Ando got his first in-play goal for us. Carrick is just a slug, and unfortunately, he’s too old to improve on his pace/explosiveness. Fabio also looked decent and the Cathcart kid will definitely be getting Carling Cup games, he looks ok. Overall, impressive performance from the team in the first and if that first half is what we are to expect this coming season, i’ll be more than happy!!
July 29th, 2009 at 19:34
Rooney MOTM!!!
well I’m speechless… who the fuck decides MOTM anyway?
July 29th, 2009 at 19:35
@AndyCR7: Rooney was shite!
July 29th, 2009 at 19:37
redrants.com MOTM is the monkey Anderson just got off his back.
July 29th, 2009 at 19:39
@AndyCR7: I’ll give it to Valencia!! If not only for it being an impressive debut, he scored a goal and had a semi-assist on another (our only two goals btw). Plus, he was a livewire anytime he got the ball on the wings!! Impressive debut from the lad.
July 29th, 2009 at 19:40
@Dan: well it surprised Rooney too. I think Berba-Owen will start tomorrow.
July 29th, 2009 at 19:42
hahahahahha rooneys interview.
“ermmmm i think that was wwon of the worst gemes ive ever played “
July 29th, 2009 at 19:50
Fergie called Anderson’s goal “A miracle in Munich”
July 29th, 2009 at 19:57
You know I just had a feeling that he was going to score… Somehow I knew it was going to be in the top corner. Great goal. Why were we worried about free kicks this season again?
July 29th, 2009 at 20:10
Goals aside we played really terrible, particularly in the second half. We just don’t pressed enough in the middle of the park and gave the opposition time and possession and when we got the ball we gave it away for fun. I think that Rooney’s movement was great, it was the rest of the game that was crap. Valencia a massive positive though!
July 29th, 2009 at 20:24
Wow…Andersons goal WOW…nothing more to say on it it was great hope he scores much more…ROONEY what the fuck is going on?I said when the team was in asia but this was his worst performance…he looked drunk on the field! Valencia was terrific!power, pace and great crosses he will fit in great…damn hes quick!!
July 29th, 2009 at 21:15
Whoa…. Anderson has scored!! It’s like … “A miracle in Munich”
July 29th, 2009 at 22:08
EVERYBODY LISTEN!!!
I promsied you to make a video of Andersons first goal a long, long while ago. Of cource on FIFA 09, and yes, OH YES, I did it. It felt so sweet, and it concluded one of the best days of my life. Take a look at my appempt to rre-create it, if you have a minute.

July 29th, 2009 at 22:21
@Footy4Eddy: Brilliant! If he took any longer tho it’d be on FIFA 10!
July 29th, 2009 at 22:33
i am not bothered by under-performing in pre-season, they might look like shit or look like gods, what matters is when they perform when it matters.
July 29th, 2009 at 22:38
so valencia has a great debut and already we are rubbishing ronaldo, like he hasnt done anything for the club!!!??
im delighted valencia played well and looks like he is going to be a real player but please have some respect for ronaldo, what ttype offans would we be if we rubbished or slandered every player that left our club???
July 29th, 2009 at 22:55
@jamie lee: Mate, its a joke!
July 29th, 2009 at 23:20

@Footy4Eddy: Holy shit Eddy!
July 29th, 2009 at 23:36
@jamie lee: Oh come on! Cheer up now, will you?
July 29th, 2009 at 23:44
dude im just saying for respect to be shown to ronaldo.
July 30th, 2009 at 0:11
@gator: Actually Beckham scored bucketloads of those kind of free kicks, but I guess we kinda forgot how it felt after getting used to Ronaldo’s punts.
And really its a great free kick goal but not the greatest ever by any means (sorry Eddy!) What makes it sooooooo special is the fact that Ando scored it!!!
Now, Roberto Carlos…
(over rated free kcik taker, by the way but that one…)
July 30th, 2009 at 0:29
@jamie lee: You’ll always see people who’ll have respect for Ronaldo and those who either don’t have time for him or have moved on. We’ve spent two summers with him as the centre of discussion. So do you really want to re-start this topic of showing respect to him?
July 30th, 2009 at 0:54
Meh.
Can anybody tell me if we were we any good in the first half?
How did the central midfield cope? THe second half I watched did did little to quash my fears about our seemingly frail centre midfield.
But nonetheless, wingers and forwards are looking ok for the coming season…
July 30th, 2009 at 1:18
@NicoQB: Our centre midfield really isn’t that bad. It’s been competent for the past couple of seasons and it’s a while back before you get to the point where our middle of the park was top-drawer. The team has been successful and although it could certainly do with strengthening, it is still good enough to cope at the moment. The lack of quality only shows when matched up against the other big teams but for the most part players like anderson and fletcher tend to enjoy the big occasion and step up accordingly. At worst, the centre midfield can put up an adequate midfield battle. They can do enough, if not more.
July 30th, 2009 at 1:32
@tevez: The only reason why we’re not being made to suffer for the weakness of the central midfield is because our defemce bails them out time and again. Pair this midfield with the defence of the mid-nineties or early 00’s and we would be conceding twice the number of goals we concede nowadays.
I agree that the potential is there, but it just frustrates me to no end when we just stop battling in the middle of the park and let the opponent get loser and closer to our defence as we did yesterday.
July 30th, 2009 at 2:33
@NicoQB: I saw the first 30 of todays game and CMF looked OK, but Rooney seemed to be the catalyst, picking up the ball deepish and trying some penetrating give and go’s to get through the middle. Some looked good, some looked exploratory, but by and large the CMF didn’t look that much different than last season – no dominant entity to boss things!!
Valencia certainly looked the real deal, and looks like he will have success on the flank, but with few large targets to aim at in the middle (his corners, that I saw, were met by nobody), I just wonder why we continue to put an emphasis on this form of attack? Probably because we can’t attack down the middle!
July 30th, 2009 at 2:42
@NicoQB: With Anderson’s success at dead ball situations (PK’s during shoot out’s) and today’s wonder blast, he could well be the go-to guy for FK’s around the box. He seems to measure things carefully, when he’s got the time, and has good power with both feet!!
Who knows!
July 30th, 2009 at 3:42
I think it’ll be Anderson or Giggs from the left and Carrick or Hargreaves from the right depending on who’s playing. Anyone know if Valencia took many freekicks at wigan?
July 30th, 2009 at 4:16
@Traverse: Yeh but we don’t know about Hargo, do we. If we could get Nani in the team, he also has good accurate power – from distance too!!!
Don’t know about Valencia’s FK potential!
July 30th, 2009 at 4:23
@Red Ranter: Respect him or not, recent history will always make him a yardstick for excellence at this club!
July 30th, 2009 at 4:50
@Redrich: Ok, but how is this related to the premise of the argument that jamie brought up, where he asked everyone to show respect to him?
July 30th, 2009 at 4:57
If Citeh get Lescott I think the tide will turn for them. They will be respected at the back as well as for they’re overstocked strike force!!
If they can put in a decent showing in a couple of competitions this year, the thought of success as a player there will be as much of a reality as the really large paycheck is!!
The Plan seems clear!! To sign big name players, give the team an identity, win some games (and maybe some competitions) and then sign some more big name players. It is a momentum that is beginning to have legs!!
I’m not saying this will enable them to overtake our excellence, but it certainly can’t be overlooked as “trivial and meaningless”. The amount of talent being amassed there will, at some point, give an advantage to them, whether Sparky induces it, or someone else, their legacy seems to be on the rise!!
So with all that was said by SAF this week, I do imagine that he will be keeping an eagles eye on the comings and goings in Eastlsnds. For them to usurp us in the PL would probably cost him his neck!!
July 30th, 2009 at 5:04
@Red Ranter: Well I thought he was comparing Valencia to Ronaldo in an attempt to show some perspective on his performance. It didn’t make me respect Ronaldo any more or any less, but as Ronaldo’s “natural” replacement, Valencia will have to endure these comparisons. Don’t you think??
July 30th, 2009 at 5:20
@Red Ranter: RR which coast are you on mate? I never know if you’re around to talk to, or not!! I’m GMT (-8)
July 30th, 2009 at 5:28
@Redrich: No coast. Completely landlocked, bang in the middle of the great state of Texas.
Central time, although there’s no particular time you can find me. I may be around all the time or I may not.
Jamie was responding to a comparison made by someone in jest (that Valencia was better than Ronaldo). He took it seriously and thought everyone must show him respect. All I told him was it’s an impossible expectation because of the way he polarised opinions. Great player, but respect is not something everyone will show to him.
July 30th, 2009 at 5:47
@Red Ranter: Far out. I’m in Houston.
July 30th, 2009 at 5:58
@Red Ranter: Oh, well I guess I didn’t go back far enough in time to get the full meaning, sorry ’bout that!
As far as Ronaldo is concerned, he was great for us, and will always remain as the talisman for our successes over the last few years. The idea that he could be a “George Best” or a “Eric Cantona” or an “Ole” is completely out of the question. However any player that could contribute so massively to our winning path will always earn an element of respect from me!!
Are you at a Uni there, or have you moved full time??
July 30th, 2009 at 5:58
@Drew Vader: Nice. I’m in Austin.
July 30th, 2009 at 5:59
@Redrich: Full time.
July 30th, 2009 at 6:02
@Red Ranter: Can you please remove Ronaldo’s pic at the top of the site and replaces it with our player?
July 30th, 2009 at 6:53
@Cocxxy: Sorry. Don’t have the time to fiddle around with header artwork at the moment. For that matter, we also have Cantona on our header image.
July 30th, 2009 at 7:30
we knew it was only a matter of time for ando
July 30th, 2009 at 8:07
@Red Ranter: I could make you an alternative header if you want.
July 30th, 2009 at 8:45
Whoa… people so wanna get rid of that Ronaldo header! Is it that big an annoyance? It’s like people treating Ronaldo as their ex.
Life’s too short for hating others (exception: u can always hate scousers with a passion though)
July 30th, 2009 at 13:11
YES. Im not so apposed to the Ronaldo header as I am the Tevez header. unless you got a good shot of him on the bench haha
July 30th, 2009 at 13:22
@sig:
July 30th, 2009 at 14:02
The GOD of formula1 is returning to the big stage!
July 30th, 2009 at 17:31
@spizzy: Well, send me a mock up and if it’s good I’ll put it up and give due credit, but you must know the fonts of Red Rants and tagline below should be the same.
