20-year-old full-back a surprise Man Utd transfer target

Manchester United have used a number of players at left-back since Jose Mourinho took charge a season-and-a-half ago.

Ashley Young has predominately been used in this position this season, though Luke Shaw has taken over the reins since returning to full fitness over the past month or so.

Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian have all been used here as well since the start of last season as Jose doesn’t appear to be settled on a left-back.

As a result we have strongly been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose since last summer but no deal has been agreed between the two clubs.

Today, the Scottish Daily Record are reporting that we are keeping tabs on Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney.  The 20-year-old hails from the Isle of Man and has represented Scotland nine times at senior international level and is a regular in Brendan Rodgers’ side.  He started all six of their Champions League group stage matches this season.

According to the report our scouts have been impressed with his performances for the Scottish champions, albeit in a very un-competitive league.  Though the Daily Record does claim we’re interested because he’s a cheaper option to Juventus’ Alex Sandro, which is very un-Manchester United-like.

There is no suggestion of how much we’d need to pay for Tiernay but he has only recently signed a six-year deal at Celtic Park to keep him there until 2023 which would certainly ramp up the fee.

How much truth to this rumour remains to be seen.  It seems particularly surprising to be linked to another left-back as we’ve been chasing Danny Rose for a while now and that Luke Shaw has been playing well since he returned.
