It has been a very quiet weekend with nothing really substantial going on in the transfer market. Not that we are really in any sort of hurry. But sometimes we wish for something to happen so that we feel that our club is indeed alive and kicking. Oh well, I guess everyone needs the weekend to relax.
But there has been some news items that I would deem utter tosh. And since there isn’t anything else we present you two of the absurd ones encountered. Amuse yourselves.

It’s been a while since the Glazer takeover - around two years now - and so far things haven’t been that bad for the club. Of course, the 05/06 season was termed by many, a disaster and set the doomsayers on overdrive. I would argue that it was a season of rebuilding and hope, where a team with a midfield of Giggs and O’Shea for good part could finish 2nd ahead of a much fancied Pool. Yes, a lot of credit should then be given to the manager in the 06/07 season for winning the title and staying on course for the treble till the very end. The surprise: we sold more than we bought at the beginning of the 06/07 season. Reason enough for pundits to write us off.
I honestly didn’t expect us to win at the start of the season. But that is not what I am here to talk about.

I’ll keep this post small, because there is nothing spectacular to talk about. From our club’s side that is. Although, over at Highbury, things are buzzing with activity what with Henry’s apparent departure for a meagre 16 million. Well, one might argue that Ruud went for 10 and Sheva came here for 30, but Sheva went to Chelsea. Although, it’s worth noting that the Spanish seem to pay way less in relation to English clubs.
Anyway, expect optimistic Arsenal fans to draw parallels with Ruud’s exit and the way we were written off. Even the pattern we mentioned a few posts back seems to be in their favor! Damn!

Giuseppe Rossi and Nani went head on head in the U21 game between Portugal and Italy - here are a few videos from the match:

First it was Quagliarella (Q) saying that United were after him and had placed a 10m bid for him.
Bogus, because United are either buying experience (Hargreaves) or for the future (Nani, Anderson) and Q at 23 is neither and because United already have youth where strikers are concerned so I’d figure that they would go for someone more experienced, IF they go for anyone. Q doesn’t have Prem experience nor does he have CL experience.
And now Q’s agent, SP, says that there has been no contact made by United with Q, SP or Sampdoria.

Sky Sports reports that Rio Ferdinand wouldn’t be interested in a move to Major League Soccer, because he can’t imagine leaving his family back home. Of course, when the headline read “Rio Rules out MLS move”, I was wondering if I had missed something. Anyway, it was a casual question put to him to which he answered in the negative.
I’d want him to play for us for as long as he physically can. His pace, assurance and composure, while making those tackles in the box, is priceless. He has had moments in the past where he’d just go off to sleep, but we saw very little of that last season. Of course, the presence of Vidic also makes life easier for him.

Well, its the first time I’m writing a Utd post… So here’s to hoping I don’t put any of you guys to sleep.
With our recent signings (or ‘to-be’ signings if you want to be picky) on their way in a bid to a) help us defend our title b) help us win other cups and c) provide a long-term solution to some of the older player; the questions on most Utd supporters’ lips are
1) What formation will Fergie and Queiroz employ?
2) What is likely to be our first XI in the opening months?

Summer times can be happy times for some, but not quite the same for the football fan. So here we have something to cheer you up just a bit. In this column we will feature lookalikes of Man United players. We can’t promise you about being regular with them, but we’ll keep them coming in as and when we find some good ones along the way.
While we hope this kind of thing will cheer you up, there is also the odd grouch we have to insure against so here is the mandatory disclaimer: We are not responsible if you don’t find this funny, and will be pleased if you liked them. So on that hypocritical note, let’s get on with it.
Today we have a look alike of Nani. Here’s the clue: He loves his crotch, he loves children and he is very famous! (The last one was a bad clue, but the first two are enough.) Picture after the jump… (A sorry for people reading this off feed readers)

It’s been a quiet couple of days and papers seem to have gone quiet as far as our club is concerned. Only Quagliarella remains on the radar while most tabloids seem happy to feast on Arsenal with the La Liga finally over. Sometimes you have to feel for them, because the Spanish tabloids seem to have gone into overdrive while there seems to be no end to Henry’s whining and declaration of love towards Dein. Not even Tom Cruise went so overboard in his public displays of love for Katie, but then I digress.

It may have come to your notice that we hadn’t put up goal videos of Rossi and Nani’s goals in the U21 Championships. Pity they had to save their best till the very last when things were out of their hands. Both players featured in thumping wins, but were knocked out of the Championship.
Seriously you’d have to feel for them, when Kieran Richardson gets to play more in the tournament.
Oh well, goal videos after the jump.
