It’s Not Always the Beautiful Game

Tag: Random Rant @ 8:16 pm

The most common reaction to Gary Cook’s latest, and pleasingly last, act of buffoonery was a tidal wave of outpoured glee. End-game for the oafish chief-executive was set in motion not by a financial mishap, but by a personal calamity – a mishit email making light of a cancer stricken woman. A meticulous investigation, following a claim of ‘hacking’ by Cook, unsurprisingly followed and flat out failed to save a man history shows has only ever been too eager to dig his own holes. It was the final flurry of f**k-ups by the oft-maligned Cook, and the door was opened for his departure – a sign that, whilst his misplaced arrogance and pitiful executive spiel was entertained, an attack on a stricken woman, the mother of City’s Nedem Onuoha, most certainly could not. Mass derision may have followed Cook out the gates of Eastlands, but it is he – the new benefactor of an enormous severance package – that will emit the last chortle.

The Academy: Bolton 1 v United 2

Tag: Academy @ 4:51 pm

On the weekend of Sir Alex Ferguson’s 25th Anniversary, United’s academy travelled to Bolton Wanderers and returned with a slender 2-1 victory.

In Sir Alex’s twenty five year career, he’s given a first team debut to an incredible 79 teenagers. It’s impossible to accurately predict which of the current crop of boys will go on to impress him enough to force their way into his thoughts, but there’s an abundance of talent and potential within the squad.

Goals from Ekangamene and Barmby were enough to see off the challenge from Bolton yesterday but the points were harder earned than they needed to be.

Fergie’s Golden Brown on 25th Anniversary

Tag: Match Reports @ 8:48 pm

Danny Welbeck’s deflected header was enough for United to claim all three points against Sunderland but the day belonged to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Old Trafford welcomed Fergie in style today, with a new banner unfolded on the Stretford End listing all the trophies won in the 25 years and the crowd belting out a loud “Every single one of us loves Alex Ferguson”.

United Look to Continue Dominance of Bruce and Sunderland

As we celebrate and commemorate Sir Alex Ferguson’s 25 years at Manchester United, perhaps it’s only fitting that this weekend’s opposing manager is someone who played a key role in the early successes that kick-started United’s return to the top and Sir Alex’s path to being Sir Alex.

The Academy: Bolton v United Preview

Tag: Academy @ 2:16 am

Two weeks ago United took on Crewe and got themselves back to winning ways (4-1) before they travelled off on their annual team building and strength-testing trip to Slovakia.

Goals from Januzaj, Barmby, van Velzen and Rudge were enough to cement what was a much improved performance by the Academy and also gave us a chance to observe Donald Love at rightback, and also seeing Luke Hendrie in his more familiar role of central midfield. Both players had excellent games with the latter finding space all game and peppering shots from distance, he was possibly a touch unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet. After suffering a tricky time at rightback for the opening 7 games of the season, it was nice to see Luke get a chance elsewhere and he took it well, so well, that I’d expect him to be given another chance tomorrow.

Manchester United vs Otelul Galati – An Observational Quiz:

OK so by now many of you are sick and tired of my negative post match rants and so rather than risk infuriating you some more, let me change things a bit and inject some sarcastic humor to the proceedings. Instead of a review of the match vs Otelul, let me expose my thoughts through a mock quiz format that plainly expresses what I feel about the team of late as well as the game just completed. So without further ado, let’s begin.

Uninspiring Victory Sees United Top Group C

Tag: Match Reports @ 12:13 am

Manchester United are top of group C in the Champions League, after goals from Antonio Valencia and Wayne Rooney secured a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.
It was a largely uninspiring performance by Fergie’s men and, with the greatest respect for Galati, against a slightly better organized United could have paid the price for their mistakes.

Will United Run Riot Against Otelul at Old Trafford?

After what was a highly eventful October, Manchester United start November with what should prove to be one of their easier wins of the season. However, if there’s something to take from the last time United had a home European match, or even the last time United faced tonight’s opposition, it’s to not underestimate any opponent or the effort that they’ll put in.
