All Eyes On Mason This Evening

Tag: Match Preview @ 4:27 pm

Lee Mason takes charge of a game that no matter what the outcome he will be either seen as afraid of Chelsea if he gives them too many decisions or getting revenge on Chelsea for his colleague if he gives us any decisions.

Before Sunday this game wouldn’t of been seen as a big game but since the Clattenburg incident on Sunday everyone has been looking forward to see what happens. Chelsea have lost 2 games in the past 5 days and will not want to make it 3 in a row.

Chelsea have taken the step of including a warning to their supporters in the matchday programme for tonight’s League Cup game following the controversial Premier League clash between the two sides.

Surely this John Terry prankster is a Red?

Tag: Random Rant @ 10:20 am

Great work by Larflaith Davoran of Irish Premier League side Sligo Rovers at the weekend.

After winning the league title on Friday Davoran sported a Chelsea kit complete with John Terry mask to celebrate with the trophy! Genius, well done that man.

Does anyone know Larflaith? Can anyone confirm he’s a United fan? Let us know!

What a great picture!

Can United win the lot this season?

Tag: Classic Posts,Manchester United @ 11:12 pm

A slightly unexpected defeat at home to Spurs and a typically difficult encounter leading to defeat at Goodison on the opening day (well Monday….again!) of the season are the only blemishes on an apparently shaky start to United’s season.

One thing’s for sure, Everton away is no gimme and Spurs beating us at OT has been coming for a few years now, neither game was a guaranteed three points. In truth I’d say that after 9 games of the season we’re sitting just about where we should be in terms of ‘points on the board’.

In the Champions league we’re sitting pretty at the top of Group H needing (you would think) just one more point to secure a safe passage through to the knockout stages.

Red Super-Sub sinks nine-man Chelsea

Tag: Match Reports @ 7:48 pm

Javier Hernandez scored the winner as Manchester United secured a 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge in a pulsating Premier League encounter.

The Mexican netted the winner with 15 minutes remaining, as 9-man Chelsea saw their unbeaten record in the Premier League come to an end.

Having flirted with a diamond formation in the last few weeks, United were back to a more familiar 4-4-2 at Stamford Bridge, with an unchanged back four in front of De Gea and a midfield including Valencia, Carrick, Cleverley and Ashley Young – playing his first game in two months – with RVP and Rooney up-front.

United look to storm Stamford Bridge Fortress

Tag: Match Preview @ 12:50 pm

Sir Alex Ferguson is the most successful manager the Premier League has ever seen; he has broken countless records, won 12 titles and swept all before him. That is to say, all, except for one team. Sunday’s opponents, Chelsea, are the only team in Premier League history to boast a positive win/loss ratio against the great man. Despite a recent 5 match unbeaten record against the Blues, it has been over 10 years since United beat them at their own ground. To make this task even more daunting, Chelsea are yet to even draw at Stamford Bridge this season, winning 5 out of 5 home fixtures. However, this doesn’t mean the game is a foregone conclusion. United are looking more confident in recent times, recording 4 straight victories after the Tottenham mishap, and have scored the most goals out of any Premier League team. With Chelsea the second top scorers; on paper we have a classic in store.

Fergie to polish United’s rough diamond.

Tag: Manchester United @ 2:18 pm

In football, perhaps more than it other team sports, managers face a crucial decision as they try to accomodate a particularly talented player into a well-oiled system.

So it was surprisingly that Sir Alex Ferguson declared that United might ditch their traditional 4-4-2 to adopt a “diamond” formation, with a player sitting as shield in front of the back four, one playing in the hole between the two strikers, with the remaining two midfielders deployed more centrally rather than “hugging” the touchlines.

Sir Alex hinted that the decision would allow United to make the most out of Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley’s abilities, modern generation midfielders who enjoy having the ball at their feet as much as roaming around the pitch without it.
