£30m Man Utd defender could leave in January

Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for Danny Rose since the summer and it appears to be only a matter of time before the England international signs for us.

The left-back appears to have fallen out with Mauricio Pochettino and the hierarchy at Tottenham following his outburst over the summer in which he claimed his current owners aren’t ambitious and don’t pay their stars sufficient wages.

Danny Rose did start the season injured before returning to action for the final 10 minutes of Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Real Madrid in the Champions League in mid-October.  However, he’s only gone on to play 90 minutes in the Premier League since.

The 27-year-old wasn’t even involved in the North London derby on Saturday, watching his side’s 2-0 defeat to rivals Arsenal from home after he was made to train at Spurs’ Enfield training facilities that morning.

Following this the Mirror are now reporting that we could make a £40 million offer for the want-away defender in January.

However, the report goes on to say that we could also offer Luke Shaw in an exchange deal for Danny Rose.  Shaw himself came into the 2017-18 season injured and has only gone on to play 48 minutes for the first team since.  He is rarely named on the substitutes bench either.

It’s no secret that Jose Mourinho isn’t a fan of 22-year-old who has only played 32 of a possible 126 Premier League matches since Louis van Gaal brought him to Old Trafford for the start of the 2014-15 season in a £30 million deal from Southampton.

Shaw has predominately been injured during his time with us but Mourinho was publicly critical of the left-back last December for his attitude.  Therefore it would make sense for all parties involved that Shaw is offered to Tottenham as part of an exchange deal for Danny Rose.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has previously worked with Shaw at Southampton whilst Tottenham could also profit financially from the deal assuming we’d offer money along with the player.  Danny Rose himself wants to move to a bigger club.
