A New Dawn, Or Same Old?
“If we hit a bad spell, it would not be the right time to go. I would not want to put the new manager into a situation where he was taking over a bad team. I want to leave United in a good, healthy position. In 2002, I made the decision on a whim.”
Those were Ferguson’s words in a recent interview.
To say this was an underwhelming season would be uttering the obvious. But personally, there’s been an unusual sense of calm about the the way things have turned out; as morbid as it felt following Liverpool’s loss to Chelsea.
A sense of resignation — a feeling of “oh well, it’s not like we were pummeling sides to submission, only to stumble at the wrong moments while gifting the title away” — dawned earlier than usual, and despite the heart trying to clutch at the most slender of straws there wasn’t much hope anyway.
United’s season could be primarily viewed through the prism of Wayne Rooney, injuries, and the transfer windows. There’s only so much Rooney can do. There’s only so much you can do with a patched up defence and midfield if your injuries keep mounting. And there’s only so much you can do if you don’t make the moves necessary during the transfer windows to make up for the loss of Ronaldo.
A league win, had it happened, would have been incredible, as it would’ve papered over the cracks gaping voids that had manifested itself. If we’d won, we would have won it despite playing poorly, with half-hearted patched up sides, and due to the munificence of inept rivals. This wasn’t a premier league title race. This year was a sack race; the least clumsy one crawled over the line. [And we all will say, well done to the least clumsy one, grudging praise afforded, but hey, it was only a sack race. So zip it, will ya!]
Which brings us back to the force that held everything together; albeit a rickety together. The one who managed to keep a cart bursting at the seams from spilling all over, balancing it where others failed. Ferguson’s job despite the circumstances and his own stubbornness during the transfer windows was a a study in marshalling resources. There were plenty of occasions where he toyed with bird-brained tactical decisions. But when other fans use the United have money and hence star players and hence win titles argument, they don’t realize what Ferguson’s had to deal with. With midfielders and right backs as old as oak trees, defenders who were either learning their trade, AWOL, dozing off, or injured, it’s an achievement to get this far.
What it still did however, was expose the side brutally for all it’s deficiencies. And if these holes were in doubt during the early half of the season, it’s blindingly obvious now. Ferguson’s quotes, indirectly refer to that. He won’t leave the side in shambles. He’ll leave it in a healthy state. And I’m convinced, no matter what his critics say, if he gets the right talent this window, he is still our man for the job.
The question is, will he act on his words? Well we have this world cup thing in between. Hopefully, something happens prior to the tournament. And if it doesn’t, hopefully he doesn’t forget something needs to be done following the tournament.
Ferguson’s admissions of some of the side’s failings and acting upon those admissions this summer should go some way in turning this supposed adversity around to a renewed era of vitality, before he finally rides off into the sunset.

I don’t see milner’s fuss at all, i mean sure he is an upgrade to our current midfield “anyone is at this point” but what can he do if we put him up against the likes of barcelona?. I don’t want a simple upgrade and crawl our way to get the league, i want world class players to crush the competition and enjoy our game.

@CraigMc: Oh this is meant to be the supposed fans who post on the fanzone area, basically meant to be a blog. However its amazing how many fans on there still continue to support those money grabbing so and sos despite all they have done already. God i have been on there today trying to tell atleast 4 people about how the glazers are a cancer on our club they dont take any notice so why bother when i can atleast talk with intelligent like wise individuals on here.
I mean i was at my first old trafford match on the final day against stoke and i gotta say the atmosphere was amazing in the stretty end. Lots of g & g, was just an amazing sight at the end. Just hope all this isnt in vain and were stuck with the yanks next season. Hopefully we see more about the RK bid soon.
Oh and by the way craig do you know how to add an avatar on here mate?

@ROOOOONEY: Against Barcelona,Fabregas also looked ordinary and he is the 2nd best midfielder in the world after Xavi.So by that theory we can only hope to bring Iniesta to fifhat Barca in the middle.Milner is a very good and versatile player.
Dont leave in dream world. There was lot of shout for Diego,Melo and they are choosen in the worse team of their League. To provide 12 assists and score 10 goals is not an easy thing in PL.How many have done it?Answer. He is a proven player which we require at the moment.
And most important thing is that if you buy Milner,it means you are buying 3 players-CM,Wings,Left back and in future behind Striker..

@Taehr: I take it you like your grapes sour? Boo Hoo Hoo mate. That’s just the way things are sometimes. Just have to accept it and move on. My argument was not for the benefit of Franck Ribery but for the game overall. I am sick and tired of seeing a championship game get hyped up and then sabotaged by the game’s superstars missing it due to the clownish rules and hypocritical ethics that pollute this game. No other sport I can think of knows how to rain on it’s own parade and destroy it’s spectacle flag ship game better than soccer. A real shame if you ask me.

@Stephen: No argument there. Two less desirable assholes have ever played the game in my opinion. Oh wait a second, I forgot all about Maradona, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Martin Keown as well as Craig Bellamy and every Italian player ever born. So I have built up hostility towards a lot of people. I’ll learn to live with it.

@Taehr: One thing that must be great if you are a Madrid or Barca fan is they scout the players the y want and soon after the season is over they go out and get them. There are no delays or procrastination. Just once i would like United to buy a player a day or two after the season ended and not a day or two before the next season begins. United’s manager and executives really know how to sadistically treat their supporters like total shit. It’s so discouraging.

@Traverse: Get some glasses mate. He was going for the ball but missed it and barely got the player. Yes the studs were up but they would be up on any player going for a ball that is slightly off the ground. He just didn’t coordinate his attempt at the ball well and missed most of the ball and got the player. A foul but at the speed and force it was done (which was very slow and soft), he couldn’t killed a fly with that. Bayern never took this to the Sports Board for Appeal because they were expecting to get away with murder. They honestly never felt the punishment was fair. And neither do I, regardless of whether it’s a Bayern player or not. I just hate seeing the game robbed of one of the world’s best players over such a silly and useless red card.

@Taehr: Here’s my feeling on Milner. If he’s not good enough to start fro his country, then he’s not good enough to start for Manchester United. United need to go after players who are good enough to start for their country unless of course they are up and coming kids like Rodwell. Milner is good but is he good enough? I personally don’t think so. I think we can do better.

To be honest if he coudnt get past Rafael im sure Mourinho wouldnt let him even touch the ball. Going off topic here would someone please tell me why Ribery is rated at 60 million pounds or whatever, whenever I see him he looks average as hell. In the 06 world cup he was great but now hes not as effective. At one point Bayern valued him the same as Ronaldo?

@Grognard: @Grognard:
Just been saying the same thing mate. It seems the season ends then fergie goes off on his holidays to the south of france, totally away from football and comes back and then does his business then. Problem is usually all the top players are snapped up by then, and this season it is particularly a problem because of the world cup and the tendancy for prices of players to rocket after a decent world cup tournament. God help you if a player has an excellent tournament like im expecting neuer to have in goal for germany, his price will probably double and we will hear the same old “I wanted the lad, but after the world cup the price we were quoted was too high and wasnt value for money”.
God i hate him saying that. Why oh why after 20 season he has overspent on players and now suddenly has become a member of the wenger brigade i will never know. Well actually i do, and its because of the glazers.
Im almost half expecting ferguson to not even look at a player before the world cup because he wants to use the excuse of no value once the tournament is over to hide the fact he is skint.
I expect to see us sell a few players and once again go for value players, ie free agents, and kids and be content with that. Joe cole then will top the list, akinfeev available on a free in january when his contract runs out, and few brazilian kids or an unknown who has a good world cup tournament.
Im really not looking forward to next season, i might be called pessimistic but we really could do with a revamp and yet once again were not gonna see it.

@Grognard: The thing with Milner is he has made his breakout season this year, he is hot right now. Every player that is worth something has one and well perhaps at 24 he is a bit late but one can argue that he has had a better season than starters like Barry and definately Steven Gerrard who has been a pile of shit. Capello talks of form but yet Walcott, Gerrard and Heskey play? If Milner signed for united he would play for England for sure. If given the chance he will have a good world cup.
There are ofcourse better options but are they available. Hamsik said in no uncertain terms he is at Napoli. Gourcuff, Iv no idea about and for me Rodwell is more a defensive midfielder, I dont expect him to create much whereas Milner has about 11 goals and 12 assists or something. On Rodwell, he hasnt even yet broken into Evertons first team so I wouldnt say he is a certainty yet. There is promise though but many have promise.

@Taehr: The ideal price for Ribery should be direct swap with Tosic.Nothing more and nothing less.He is as good as Tosic. If some body will say he is not as good as Tosic ,then i totally disagree. He will not be starting for France at his usual position bcoz Malouda is 4 times the player that cunt is.
I want Fergie to swap Him for Tosic and then send him on loan to Burnley for 2 seasons. It will do some good for him.

@Grognard:
Whether intentional or not, Ribery’s tackle was ill-timed and could have been devastating for the opposing player (Lisandro?). In football, the referee does not give fouls/cards based on intent of the tackle; he gives the fouls/cards based on the rules of the game (in this case, studs up + not getting any of the ball = red card). It was a clear-cut red. Prior to the game, everyone knew the rules of suspension (direct red = 3 games) and they were not changed after the game just to harm Ribery and/or Bayern. And, yes, if Messi had done the exact same tackle UEFA would not have overturned the red card just so they could have him in the Final. So, in your defense, I think you are just a passionate fan and spoke (during this post) with more emotions than reason. Yes, it sucks that Bayern won’t have one of their best players, but he knew the rules and the red card was rather deserved (whether he meant to or not).

@Taehr: He was some player back in day. Sadly i never really got to appreciate his talent as i was too young when he was in his barca days but what i saw of him on tv and youtube (yeah i know), he looked amazing. One of the few matches i did watch him live on tv was the brillaint 4-3 game at old trafford in 2003 when he scored a hatrick. Was simply out of this world that day, got applauded off the pitch by the united fans which says it all doesnt it, cant remember the last time we applauded a player off the pitch who wasnt one of ours and had never player for us before.
I remember one day when i was still a kid before he made the move to madrid a mate of mine from school told me we had just signed ronaldo for a world record fee. This was in about 2001/02 time so he was one of the best players in the world still. I remember running all the way home from school to switch on the tv to see it was a lie lol. Needless to say i wasnt happy next day. Sounds kinda sad now i know but i was only a kid and when your linked to a player of his calibre when your a kid you think its the best thing in the world.

@Taehr: See, I was right yet again. I have said it so many times that we can be linked to hundreds of players but when it’s all said and done all we have to work with is the allocated 20 million Fergie gets every year for players. There is no Ronaldo money or no lets appease the fans money etc etc. Fergie as usual has lied to us saying that he was going to change things up and buy players. I knew he wouldn’t. I know that he is so full of shit it’s starting to come out of his ears. He is a lying SOB of an old fart who sold his soul to the Glazer’s for God knows what. Again the fans have to take it on the chin for another summer and then endure watching boring football and old gits playing well past their prime because the owners will not spend a dime on the club and because the manager hasn’t got the sack to challenge them. Instead he makes due with what they give him which isn’t good enough to buy anyone of real consequence other than one second tier star. I knew this was going to happen and yet I said nothing hoping that for once I would be proven wrong with this old story. But Fergie was true to the script. That old fart didn’t disappoint me. He has become as predictable as rain in Vancouver. I wish I had the power to sack him but I don’t. Therefore I ask him now to fall on his old rusty sword and take one for the team and retire. Retire now while we all have a few nice things to say about him. And take your god damned Jewish conspirator owners with you before they extort the rest of the lifeblood from this great club. Go breed horses you old git.

@Taehr: Taking the piss isnt the word anymore this is just pathetic it really is but the sad thing is i really am not surprised. As i posted just a few hours ago expect to see joe cole top of the list for our transfer targets and any other free agents and maybe a couple of kids.
Do i sound like a unloyal fan now if i say i am sick and god damn tired or ferguson and really feel pissed off at him because i am just sick of his god damn lies. What that whole article translates as is “we have no money, the squad isnt good enough but ill lie through my teeth and say we will give the kids a chance”.
2 words for fergusons comments bull and shit. Why he has sided with those money grabbing bastads i dont know, for me i really have lost so much respect for the boss in the last 2 years as a result of his glazer backing, shit defensive tactics and lack of ideas on the football pitch. He is a suck up of the biggest kind, i half expected it from an upper class self centred money grabber like gill but not from ferguson.
Here is a man who always goes on about how proud he is of his working class roots and how he loves the fans and yet he has sold them out with his backing of the glazers. They are destroying the club and ferguson is helping them do it. If i had been the boss if i would not have been given the ronaldo money i would have been on every single tv network telling the world what buggers the glazers are. They wouldnt have the balls to sack the manager and if they did the fans would cause merry hell and the owners would be gone within a week im certain of that.
God how i hope the RK or some one else comes in and buys us and rids us of the cancer that is glazer. While theyre at it they can kick out gill and i would give huge thoughts into whether ferguson should remain or whether we should bring in mourinho.
Im sorry if anyone reads this and thinks your being too harsh or whatever or maybe this is the general feeling of most people on here, but all i know is im sick of fergusons lies and im sick of his glazer ball licking, god what i would give for a cantona, keano or schmeichel in this team who would give fergie a kick up the ass and tell him how much of a fool he was being backing those bastads.

But he is a great player who I doubt anyone other than Ronaldo had a better 2007/08 season. @tonymontanna4united: Old people are a funny lot. They change as they get older. I remember how both my dad and my uncle used to drive their cars and how they drove in their senior years. From speeders who often got nabbed by the cops for speeding tickets, they became the slowest drivers on the road going put put and holding everyone back. Did they lose their reflexes or reaction time? Hell no, not from what I could gather. But somewhere inside them something just stopped. Well Fergie’s Scottish meter finally went on after so many years of having no problem spending others people’s money . Now all of a sudden he has become fiscally responsible. Just leads to another theory of mine which is in order to not spend on players the glazer’s have offered him a significant piece of the pie if he restrains from player purchases and if he keeps his mouth shut. This kind of thing is done all the time in corporations when they have that one employee with tenure that cannot easily be sacked. So what do they do to shut him up? They give him shares or a big bonus and make him sign his power away so that he cannot go against the board. Honestly, it almost feels like Fergie was bought off. No other explanation for it because no other explanation makes sense while he watches his club grow old, rusty and decrepit around him and he does nothing.

@Lars: Hardly even a tackle. He didn’t slide into him he just overstepped on the ball and missed it and in the process got Lisandro. But again let me emphsize my point in the post was not just to cry for my Bayern boy Ribery. It was for footballa nd for the governing body and the fans to grow a sack and start acting like men as opposed to girls. Sports can be physical. It’s not the end of the world when a tackle happens. Far worse happens in rugby, American football and hockey and yet the rules are not so girly as to oppress the game and the entertainment value. And that’s what I am really talking about here, entertainment value. It’s not good for a sport to continually be missing players from a final not because of injury, but because of suspension. The rules for finals have to be lesser for the good of the game and the spectacle. I’ll live with the status quo for all the other games. In fact here is a compromise solution. If a player gets a soft second yellow or soft red card before a final, let the suspension start after the final. The final should be exempt from suspensions unless that act was violent or unsportsmanlike. Seriously, it;s for the good of the game.

@Grognard: Yeah and worst thing is i can honestly see ferguson in charge for another 4/5 years, we miss out on mourinho as this club basically goes to shit. Definitely i see a few things he has done recently which really do make me wonder if his mind is going to mush at times.
I was just reading this week how rooney won an award from the PFA writers or something and was asked a harmless question about what he thought on paul scholes deciding not to come out of retirement to play for england in world cup. Its a simple question, no malace or even anything to do with ferguson however apparently he kicks up a fuss, is muttering for the rest of the night and has a go at the guy who asked that question. I mean seriously what the hell is wrong with a question like that, worst thing it was a rehearsed question that rooney was informed of before he was asked it. Not really related to united i know but why get a bee in his bonnet over something that was not malice or anything bad pointed at him or anyone at united, but he has to see its all to do with him and moans about it. I really do start to wonder if his mind is no longer in “mint condition”.
I do agree though he has become a typical scot in his later years. He goes on about value every god damn time. Well i got to ask you fergie, was valencia worth £17m 12 months ago. Was berbatov worth £31m, or veron £28m, or ferdinand £30m, nani £18m before we brought them here.
Its alright saying for example aguero isnt worth £30m but if he stayed here for 5+ years and we won the league a few times along with the champions league and he played a part in that is it not money well spent?
This value crap is just nonsense, in his 20+ years here never has he used “value” as a reason for not purchasing a player and now suddenly when finances are terrible he says it. Worst thing is certain fans believe him aswell, its just a joke.
I really fail to take a person seriously who when saying “i see no players who are value for money” fails to purchase players like sneijder for £13m and robben for the same price as valencia. These 2 players are playing in the champions league final this saturday and have been instrumental in getting their respective teams there and he goes on about value. Free agents and kids is what he means by value, hell im sure if messi was available for £20m he’d come up with some shit saying theres no value in him.

@Lars: Yes I am a passionate fan and Ribery’s suspension bothers me because he didn’t deserve it. But it only invoked memories that were far more harder to handle like Ballack in 2002, Fletcher in 2009, Muller in 1996 andother instances where I feel the game and the spectacle have suffered and yes, wher emy team has gotten the royal shaft. I only have three teams. United, Bayern and Germany and all three seem to be on FIFA’S hit list when it comes to unfairness and double standards. I am right when I say that Barca and Madrid never seem to suffer form this problem despite the number of players in their past that have performed dirty or violent acts before a final. And hell, Italy, Brazil or Spain never seem to get into trouble in international tournaments despite having players who are not only dirty but overly passionate. Amazing how they seem to get away with murder all the time. Perhaps I am just sick and tired of the double standards and status quo coming out of UEFA and FIFA’S offices over the past 30 years. Just call me bitter.

The one question they don ‘t ask and the one I am dying for them to ask is should we hold Sir Alex Ferguson responsible for actions of the past 24 to 36 months and should we sack him? My answer to that kind of question would be YES YES YES YES.I don’t care what others think. I want him gone. The old man is a liar and he has betrayed all of us.. I want him sacked.
