Alexis Sanchez gives hint on where he might play for Man Utd

Manchester United completed the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Premier League rivals Arsenal on Monday, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going in the opposite direction in what was a direct swap.

The Chilean superstar has been given the number 7 shirt, which was last worn by Memphis Depay.  Prior to the Dutch international receiving the number, the shirt had only been worn by club legends in the Premier League era – Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 29-year-old’s arrival does give Jose Mourinho some selection headaches now.  Often playing a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation, he has a choice between Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and now Sanchez to fill these roles.

It has been expected that the forward would take Mata’s place down the right wing because the Portuguese coach hadn’t previously been a big fan of the former-Chelsea man.  However, the Spaniard has been a crucial part of our team down the right wing this season.

Alexis Sanchez has now spoken on his preferred role at the club, saying:

“I’m a player who likes to win everything. I’m very professional in everything I do.

“I live for football. I love football. It’s what I’m passionate about. I train hard every day and after a game I try to look at what went well and where I can improve.

“I really like to play down the left, through the middle, but to tell you the truth, as long as I’m playing football, I’ll fit in anywhere.”

Whether he will be handed the left wing role ahead of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford remains to be seen.  Sanchez has played on the right for both Barcelona and Arsenal at times and went on to say that he enjoys any of the three attacking midfield roles:

“I love playing in any of the three attacking positions but I feel a little more comfortable out on the left because it allows me to take on the opposing full-back and cut inside and shoot with my right foot.

“It’s easier for me to shoot that way but to be honest, I’m just happy to be playing wherever I am fielded by the boss.”

Alexis Sanchez scored 60 goals in 122 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, predominately playing out wide for Arsene Wenger’s side.
