Anderson Glad to be Back

Tag: Manchester United News @ 3:38 am

“I’m so happy and excited to be back again after six months without football,” Anderson told ManUtd.com. “I’ve been really excited to be back. I’ve been so happy ever since I got back to Carrington and I just can’t wait to play again.

“I’m feeling good. I’ve been training for two weeks and I’m very happy. I think maybe very soon I’ll come back again and start playing normally with the rest of the team. I have had no problems at all with the injury. I’m just running and training now really hard, so I can come back and train normally with the team.”
“I think the new season will be very difficult because a lot of teams are becoming strong,” he admitted. “But in pre-season we have looked very strong and I think we will come again this season and we will aim to win everything.”

After escaping unscathed in a car crash, he should be glad he’s not had a bigger setback. There have been plenty of questions on his attitude, leave alone inconsistent displays. And it remains to be seen how he puts those things behind him and focusses on regaining a midfield spot—a task made more formidable given Fletcher’s near-unimpeachable status and the other spot held by Scholes or Carrick.

It’s a fair shout to say that if he doesn’t manage to establish himself this season in the first team, it’s going to be hard for him to stay on. Anderson was the one to catch everyone’s eyes when he was signed alongside Nani. But it’s Nani who has established himself as a starter while Anderson has gone off the rails, blighted by a mix of injury and inconsistency.

  • @Grognard: with Ruud we won 1 PL, 1 FAC, and 1 CC. And he didn’t even play in that final! So for all his goals, we weren’t the most succesful team.

Wow, in 5 seasons we won 3 trophies and that’s not succesful! That’s Manchester United for ya!

  • @Grognard: Don’t change the actual question. The thing was that Valencia had a better first season at Man Utd than Ronaldo statistically.
Is it false? If yes, then we can carry on this useless discussion because praising Ronaldo is not going to help Man UTD anyway.

  • @Owen: Valencia’s was not his first season in the Premier League. Compare Valencia’s age at United and Ronaldo’s at United. Valencia had three years at Wigan already and was bought with the intention of getting him into the first team right away. Ronaldo was bought with a view towards moulding him into a star. You are comparing apples and oranges.

Also, this debate may have started with someone pointing out that Valencia is a good crosser, but why does a response to that involve putting down Ronaldo?

  • @EduardoDaVinci4: That’s exactly so, we weren’t successful. United was winning an average of two trophies a season for about five years before RVN showed up and since he left they average at least one trophy a season. Trebles and doubles add up mate and we had none of those when he was around. Not his fault, my point is that as a team we were not overly settled back then. In the past four years we have won seven major trophies. That’s almost 2 a year. Can you see the comparison now mate.

  • @Red Ranter: Again you are missing the question RR.There is nothing to do with Valencia’s history in PL.

It is simple.Who had better first season at Man Utd statistically?
And i think there is a single word answer for this ,no explanation needed.

  • Dimitar Berbatov has painted himself as Manchester United’s modern-day Eric Cantona.

  • @johnsom33: That shot shows up on the scoreboard where everything Anderson does (which is sweet fuck all) does not. I also think Gibson is not a bad passer and a surprisingly good crosser of the ball. He has to work on his skills but mostly, he has to work on his focus and concentration more. If he does, he will improve. Anderson has so many things to work on I ask myself what’s the point?

  • @Owen: Those days you speak of were not always so grand. As far as I am concerned the years 2002/2006 can be forgotten as low points in Fergie’s tenure because Arsenal and Chelsea were top dogs. 1999/01 was a great period as was 93/97 and 06/09. But you will always find things to be negative about. It’s human nature. One thing however I can say without hesitation, the 93/97 and 99/01 teams never ever played negative football and always attacked. Regardless of their success, they were fun to watch because of their champaign football.

  • @NicoQB: I agree but the idea of being settled is a bit open to debate. Yes we are more settled these days but that’s because the manager refuses to add new blood into the team to mix things up and improve the squad. So we play with the same boys all the time to the point of being settled. But are we very good? That for me is the vital question. I think we are good, but far from very good. Then again, I don’t think anyone in the EPL is very good right now. The big talent is going to Spain and we have to take a back seat to that insane circus. That and watching Man City make idiots of themselves with irresponsible spending.

  • @Owen: Yes, but it depends on which stats you want to look up. If you compare goals per minutes-on-pitch ratio you’ll see Ronaldo was superior. A more meaningful debate is if you take stats into context.

  • @Owen: Obviously you haven’t read it properly, because he hasn’t really compared himself to Eric. If only you read the actual quotes and not your own hatred of Berbatov.

  • @Red Ranter: It’s all petty bitterness mate. Ronaldo was a god for us and the best player in the world. Yes he let us all down by going to Madrid, but that should not erase 6 years with the club which were fantastic. His crime is no worse then Cantona who decided for whatever reason to retire well before his time. And need I remind people that Cantona played fewer seasons and games than Ronaldo. Ronny is owed a great thanks by all of us and not this terrible disservice to his name and contributions which were significant. How quickly we forget when we act like scorned women.

  • @EduardoDaVinci4: Absolutely, that’s what I’ve been saying all the time.

@Owen: Statistics are only comparable if you make a projection upon the amounts of minutes, not games played.

  • @Owen: He was replacing Beckham but Fergie knew he could not replace match for match at the beginning. He was 17 and had to be carefully brought into the team and starting lineup. Nevertheless, he was Beckham’s replacement 100%.

  • @Red Ranter: RR,The sad thing is no one sees goals per minutes on pitch ratio in the same way as how Lampard scores 20 goals a season no one asks(as 15 are from penalty and free kicks). At the end of the day,the amount of goals and assists matter and it is counted by fans.
And also RR ,you have to be good enough to spend time on the pitch actually.

  • @Owen: Valencia is a fine crosser of the ball but he is a little mechanical in his approach and not overly consistent. Still, he delivered many great balls into the box last year and Rooney benefited greatly form his service. If nobody else did, I would question their positioning more than Valencia’s crossing. Berbatov for example squandered a number of great Valencia crosses and was absent for many too.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Owen: You are correct. But since Ronaldo was only 17 and being broken in slowly by the manager for obvious reasons, I do not see how the comparison is even valid. Lets see if Valencia scores more than 42 goals for the club in his fifth season then we can compare each players fifth season. ;-)

  • Replace Berbatov with Ngog and Valencia will have 20 assists in a season.

  • @Red Ranter: You tell me. There is so much anti-Ronaldo bitterness around it makes me sick. The guy never played for us for a season or two then he fucked off for more money. He was loyal and played with the club for half a dozen years. That may not be Giggs or Scholes like, but it’s a long time in a soccer players life. I think he deserves a lot more respect and a special thanks for the thrills he gave us.

Yeah, Ronny was that good, even though I felt Rooney was slightly better at his age. Shame they didn’t have the same growth as players.
Might have to do with focus.

  • There are three kinds of people in this world! Dicks, pussies, and assholes. Pussies don’t like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn’t appropriate – and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves… because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don’t know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don’t let us fuck this asshole, we’re going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

  • @Owen: I think he was Mate. Go back and watch those games. He started 90% of those games as a winger. That’s why he is so special. He could cut in and get involved in the box and score goals. But i also remember a lot of great one on one wing play, some pretty decent crosses and everything you would want in defining him as a winger. How can you say he wasn’t a winger?  That’s ludicrous. That’s like saying george Best wasn’t a winger because he too would cut in and score goals. Ronaldo is a an unconventional winger but he is a winger nonetheless.

    Controlled chaos!

  • @NicoQB: I love Rooney but he hasn’t got the talent of Ronaldo. He has the same work ethic and desire but Ronaldo played with thball at his feet, where Wayne’s control on the ball is not nearly as advanced. Wayne cannot strike the ball as well as Ronaldo and they are a universe apart when it comes to free kicks. Where Rooney is better is in his overall passing ability (when he is alert and not sleeping) and in his tenacity in the box. These days he has also improved his aerial ability which used to be way behind Ronaldo’s but may now be equal to him. And Rooney cannot strike a ball from 35 to 40 yards out and score like Ronny can, nor can he beat players one on one the way Ronny can.

  • @Grognard: Rooney was actually playing on the wings that season,Grog.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Owen: On occasion but that does not mean Ronaldo was a striker. In a few key matches things were reversed but overall, Ronaldo was almost always a winger with carte blanche (AKA the freedom to go anywhere).

  • @Owen: I’m sorry Owen but you are 100% wrong and i no longer even want to discuss it. I own every game on dvd and have watched every game at least five times so please don’t play with my intelligence. He was a winger in 90% of the matches and that is the bottom line. Perhaps you need to go back and watch these games because you are debating with a Ronaldo expert here ok.

  • @EduardoDaVinci4: Mourinho was quoted last week that he has never in his life seen a player who works harder at training and at improving than Ronaldo. He was shocked by this but he basically challenged the rest of the team to match Ronny’s workout regime. I think this speaks volumes about Ronaldo. Especially when it comes to comparing him with Rooney who parties a lot, comes to camp out of shape and who smokes like a chimney.
