Another Man Utd midfielder suffers injury

Manchester United are currently playing Benfica in our fourth group game of this season’s Champions League.

Victory over the Portuguese champions matched by CSKA Moscow failing to win at FC Basel this evening would book our place into the second round.

Things are going perfectly at half-time with both us and Basel leading 1-0 in our respective games.

However, one down point so far is that Jesse Lingard has been replaced by Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the start of the second half.

The attacking midfielder had gone down midway through the first half with a back injury following an innocuous collision on the halfway line.  Minutes later he went down again but managed to finish the fist half.

It was noticeable that Jesse Lingard’s movement had not been so fluent nor were his runs so quick for the remainder of the first half following his injury.

Mkhitaryan has come on at the start of the second half to play the number 10 role.

We took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Nemanja Matic’s long-range effort came back off the post before rebounding off goalkeeper Mile Svilar into his own net.

The Portuguese side’s goalkeeper scored an own goal in  what was the only goal of the game a fortnight ago when we were 1-0 winners in Lisbon.

Update: Jose Mourinho has given an update on Jesse Lingard’s injury
