Manchester United star provides positive injury update ahead of Leicester clash

Pogba-Martial

Manchester United star Anthony Martial has provided a latest update on his recovery from his injury as the forward has confirmed that he has returned to training on Friday. The 20-year-old picked up an injury in the Red Devils’ 3-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road on 18 September.

The France international missed the 20-time English champions League Cup victory over Northampton Town during the midweek. Martial has already been ruled out for Leicester clash, but the player confirmed he has returned to training.

“Back to training today @ManUtd,” Martial tweeted.

Jose Mourinho’s side will face the Premier League champions at Old Trafford on 24 September. There were reports he would be fit to face Claudio Ranieri’s side after he earlier revealed he is “feeling much better.”

However, the Portuguese tactician has already confirmed the ex-AS Monaco man will not be included in the squad for the clash against the Foxes. In addition to this, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager has also explained that Martial is recovering from contusion and not concusion as reported earlier.

“Martial is not available. He is out because of the contusion in the calf and ankle area. I think you know when that happened,” Mourinho said in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

The pacey forward arrived at Old Trafford on the deadline day of the last summer transfer window. He impressed in his debut season and his form saw him make it to France squad for the Euro 2016, which they lost to Portugal in the final.

Martial has failed to replicate his last season’s form and is yet to get his name on the scoresheet in any of the competitions he has played under Mourinho.

Jose Mourinho will take his men to Rotterdam as the Red Devils will be hoping to start the second tier of European competition with a victory. United finished fifth in the Premier League last season and that saw them miss out on the Champions League.

Manchester United handed massive injury boost for Manchester City clash

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Manchester United have been handed a massive injury boost after confirming that the Red Devils do not have any injury worries for the upcoming derby clash against Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola will take his men to Old Trafford on Saturday as the Premier League football returns after the international break. Summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan suffered an injury while in action for Armenia against the Czech Republic, while Luke Shaw was withdrawn from England squad.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder missed his national’s side World Cup qualifiers and his participation in the derby was doubtful.

In addition to this Antonio Valencia’s participation for the City fixture was doubtful as the full-back was set to return from his time with Ecuador duties just a day before the league tie.

However, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager has confirmed he has fully fit squad. Mourinho also suggested that the Armenian international is fit to face their local rivals, but is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes.

“Everybody is available. It’s not the same as if we were here all week and working, resting and not travelling, but there are no injuries and everybody has returned safely and on time for at least one training session. Everybody is ready and wants to play of course,” Mourinho told United’s official website.

“I’m not saying Micki is ready to play 90 minutes but he is ready to help us,” revealed the manager in relation to the Armenia captain, who hurt his thigh while representing his country. “There are no injuries.”

Chief backs Manchester United star to be as good as Arsenal legend

marcusrashford

Manchester United Head of Academy Nickyy Butt believes Marcus Rashford can go on to become as good as Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

The former France international was instrumental during his time at the north London club and was also impressive for his national side. Butt believes the 18-year-old new Red Devils star can go on to develop to become as good as the ex-Gunners star.

Rashford was given a first team debut by Louis van Gaal earlier in February. He impressed as he finished the previous season on a high, which saw him being included in England’s squad for the European championship. Despite the Three Lions’ disappointing performance in France, the teenager was one of the few bright spots in the tournament.

“Yes. Blistering pace. When Marcus runs at you, you can’t stop him,” Butt told The Times, when he was aksed if he would compare his style to that of Henry.

Butt also went on to suggest that Rashford started out on the wide left and believes he can excel in that position under the guidance of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

“He wasn’t a centre forward as a youngster; he probably developed into that more out of necessity last season than design. He actually was on the left. I believe his best position is off the side,” the former United midfielder explained.

“Until he gets his physicality about him he’s going to find it very hard to play up against some of these centre-halves. It depends how the manager [Jose Mourinho] is going to play; if he plays a Michael Carrick, who can clip balls in for Marcus to run on to, then it’s all different, he can run in behind all day.”

Manchester United star beats Zlatan Ibrahimovic to bag club award

Zlatan Ibrahimovic-Eric Bailly

Manchester United summer signing Eric Bailly has managed to beat  Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Daley Blind to bag the club’s Player of the Month award for August.

The 22-year-old was Jose Mourinho’s first signing at Old Trafford as the central defender completed his switch to Old Trafford from Villarreal. He was followed the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain striker to the Premier League.

Ibrahimovic has scored four goals in four matches, which includes a winner in United’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City and a brace against Southampton in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

However, the Swedish star failed to beat Bailly after the Ivory Coast international was voted by several fans – via Twitter and United’s official website. Bailly bagged 55 percent of vote and was 18 percent ahead of Ibrahimovic. The Dutch international had 8 percent and was third, behind his centre-back partner and the striker.

A statement on United’s official website read, “Eric Bailly is the convincing winner of Manchester United’s first Player of the Month award for the new season.”

“The Ivory Coast international has made an instant impact at Old Trafford and earned the Man-of-the-Match accolade in three of the Reds’ four games last month, only missing out when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was star man in the 2-0 win over Southampton.

“Thousands of supporters cast their votes on Twitter and ManUtd.com with the 22-year-old beating off competition from fellow summer signing Ibrahimovic (37 per cent) and his defensive partner Daley Blind (8 per cent) to land the trophy with 55 per cent of the overall tally.”

Manchester United confirm Tottenham youth coach’s appointment

Kieran McKenna

Manchester United have confirmed that Kieran McKenna has been appointed as the club’s new Under-18 coach on Thursday, September 1.

He started out as a midfielder with Enniskillen Town, before he signed for Tottenham Hotspur. However, a hip injury forced him to end his playing career and he moved to take the coaching role at the north London club.

Paul McGuinness left the role at United in February and that was vacant, which will now be filled by McKenna. He signed for the 20-time English champions from rivals Tottenham.

United Under-18 side will take on Middlesbrough in the upcoming clash on Saturday. That will be McKenna’s first game in charge and he will be seen in the dug-out for the first time with his new club.

McKenna’s former club Tottenham knocked United out of the 2015 FA Youth Cup, which they lost to Chelsea in the semi-final.

A statement on United’s official website read, “Kieran McKenna has been confirmed as Manchester United’s new Under-18 coach.”

McKenna, who is a boyhood United fan is delighted to have completed his move as he has already started working with the Red Devils’ youngsters.

“It’s been excellent. I’ve been here about a week now, getting to know the staff, the players and everyone in the building. Everyone has been very welcoming and it helps that I knew quite a few of the staff already and had a good relationship with some of the people here,” McKenna told MUTV.

“I feel I’ve slotted in very quickly and the work with the boys on the grass has all gone extremely well so it’s been very smooth so far.

“I was involved with Tottenham since a 14-year-old lad coming across from Ireland to train with the youth team there,” he added. “I was full time since 16 and had seven fantastic years as a player. Obviously, the last couple were heavily disrupted by injury and I finished my playing career at 23 years old.

“I learned a lot and Tottenham have had a lot of success with Academy and I’m sure they will continue to do so now. To go to Manchester United, there is no bigger move you can make, it’s another fantastic Academy and it’s a dream come true really. I was a massive United fan, my dad brought me over to my first game in the 1994 season to see them lift the Premier League trophy.”

City star Aguero charged by FA, could miss Manchester United clash

Sergio Aguero

The Football Association (FA) have confirmed they have charged Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero for an alleged act of violent conduct for his incident during his side’s 3-1 victory over West Ham United.

The Argentine international was involved in an incident where he punched the Hammers player Winston Reid with elbow in the 76th minute of the match at the Etihad last weekend. The former Atletico Madrid star’s behaviour was caught on camera, but was not noticed by match referee Andre Mariner.

However, the video replay shows that Aguero has been guilty and City star has until 6pm on August 31 to respond to those charges.

A statement on the FA’s official website read, ” Sergio Aguero has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.”

“The Manchester City forward was involved in an incident with West Ham United’s Winston Reid in the 76th minute of the game on Sunday [28 August 2016]. He has until 6pm on Wednesday 31 August to reply.”

“Off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time by the match officials are referred to a panel of three former elite match officials.

“Each panel member will review the video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it a sending-off offence. For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.”

According to the Mirror, Aguero could be slapped with a three match ban for his violent conduct. This means City star striker will miss the Manchester derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford after the international break on 10 September.
