Busby Babes RIP

I was searching for some good material covering the Munich disaster. But then there was substantial coverage on here last year marking the 50th anniversary that culminated in Man City’s victory over a, possibly overwhelmed, (or overawed) United side.
But the best material I found on Munich this time again was in the official United site. The put up a black banner on top with the clock.
The piece, “The darkest day: Feb 6th 1958” is a very good read indeed. It also plays a BBC clip breaking the news of the Munich disaster.
The most comprehensive analysis of the event, for those not aware, is of course the trusty Wikipedia entry on the Munich air disaster.
For detailed player profiles of that unfortunate squad Mufcinfo, as always, is the site to read. If you haven’t visited that site earlier you must. The person, who runs that site, has painstakingly compiled each and every perceivable records achieved by United or United players as he humanly can. It is an unofficial encyclopedia, if you will.
I’ll leave you with a Busby Babes tribute video:

Grognard, never seen ronan mate, ive heard of it but never seen it. As for brando, well i gotta say ive never really seen him in much apart from the godfather but he was great in that. Maybe he is the greatest but apart from the godfather part 1, ive only seen him i think it was apocolypse now or something so i cannt really say. As for de niro and pacino i have seen many of their films. Goodfellas is 1 of my favourites, taxi driver is brilliant, raging bull is my favourite sporting movie (above rocky trilogy), a bronx tale which i thought was very under rates, heat as i said, godfather 2, once upon a time in america which is excellent, and thats just de niros films. Pacino is excellent is all the godfather films, scarface is the best movie ever made, love it, serpico was a good watch, and carlitos way which i also loved. So many great movies these 2 stars were responsible for its frightening. My friends spend their time going to the cinema to watch a crap film with a crap actor and i cannot believe how bad it has got. I would rather just watch a movie with these 2 in and marvel them.
I gotta say that probably de niro is my favourite of the 2 even tho its a hard choice. Scarface tho was just the best movie i ever saw and ive seen 100s. Must have watched it 30 times, just love it. Sadly these 2 legends will maybe be calling it a day soon, and we gotta settle for the crappy actors. Shame, but atleast we have the dvds so i can sit back and watch them both in their prime. As for your list of fav films, its good but mine would be as such:
Scarface
Die Hard
Godfather 1
Goodfellas
Godfather 2
Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
Carlitos way
Heat
A bronx Tale

went to Manchester to see a real football match today. Bury vs Dagenham and Redbridge (my cousin plays for Bury). Good game it was too. Bury took a 2-0 lead going into HT . The CB scored both. In the 2nd half they blew the 2-0 lead, the same CB making 2 mistakes to gift them goals. If they won they would’ve been 1 point behind the leaders (League 2) but they are now 3rd but they have played a couple of games more than their promotion rivals. Still, it was a good day out and I got my new laptop over in England so happy days
went to the players lounge after the game
and watched first Ireland vs France (rugby) and then L’pool match. Absolutely unbelievable how Pompey gave that up. we’ll see if they’re that kind next time United are in town.

@RedDevilEddy: Eddy, I liked Spurs back when they were well worth liking and when they had great players. Nothing more than a guilty pleasure. United has always been my team.
As for women, no you are not correct there. I don’t hate women at all. I’m just too experienced with many of them to know that they cannot be completely trusted and even if they can be, they are a headache and the price for all their charms and extras comes with a great toll and sacrifice.
Trust me mate, at your age you know nothing of women and you haven’t even been around the block twice. When I was in my mid teens I had two girlfriends at one time and was banging waitresses ten years my senior at work during the weekends. I’m not bragging or trying to impress you with that. Now that I am older and wiser I realize how out of control and ridiculous my younger life was then but what an incredible life education I received. From 21 to 26 I literally lived and breathed night clubs and pussy. In the early 80′s during the New Wave Romantic movement in music and pop culture I was very big with the women. I loved them to death. I loved everything about them and I enjoyed talking and spending time talking with them. I had more female friends than male. In fact people who didn’t know me might have thought I was gay due to how well I got along with girls and how I could converse on their level and about things they liked. But I’m Greek and we are born with natural charm, Guido good looks and a personality that women love.
Soon after I met my ex at a nightclub. She was was a fashion model at the time and soon after she and I moved to Toronto so she could further her career while I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do despite having a teacher’s degree. Up to that point I had gone to bed with hundreds of women and I loved life. I sewed my wild oats and really have no regrets. Why? Because I never let women get too close to me or to the point where they could manipulate and run my life. When I finally let my ex in and let her steal my heart I opened myself up to the potential of getting used, abused and hurt one day. And over the years I became very observant and very wise in the ways of Female manipulations and masterhood. I saw it in my life and in the lives of many others.
Women are not evil but they aren’t as complex as they think they are. Have you ever noticed that they really have no hobbies or interests and their girlfriends take a back seat to their men? All they want is to take up your time, manipulate your life, Hell, they run your life and then expect you to jump and sing whenever they want you to. And in most cases, if you knuckle under to them and fall for their allure, they eventually get bored with you and discard you like toilet paper because you are no longer interesting or a challenge because they have stripped away your interesting aspects, your bad boy personality, your spirit, your ambition and your wildness. They are predators. They eat away at all the meat and then leave nothing but bones behind. It happened to me after ten years with someone I thought I knew and trusted. But I saw it with so many other people too.
For all their simplicity, most women don’t really know what the fuck they want. When they were just one night stands for me, I actually adored and respected all of them. But it’s the ones that get men into relationships and slowly murder him by sucking out his heart and soul that I cannot stand. You are too young to be experiencing what I am talking about. And I am not saying that the girl you eventually choose to be with permanently will do this to you. What I am saying though is that there are many many predators out there that love to destroy men because they themselves don’t know what they want and they don’t even realize they are acting like predators.
Sorry for the gloomy description but I laugh but actually admire at your young innocent naivety. Been there done that. Sure I am cynical now but I have been around and seen a lot of things. I remember hearing the same kind of stuff from my dad and thinking he was full of crap, but you know what, in hindsight, he was 100% right. Women are a Catch 22. You can’t live with them and you can’t live without them. I especially mistrust and dislike what many women today have become. They are to much like men. They think and act like men, are into themselves, physical fitness freaks, vegetarians, health and beauty junkies which has turned them into superficial and shallow bitches who are looking for men the way I used to look for women.
I am too old fashioned for this blatant and tacky role reversal. I hate the way women have turned out over the past 15 years, but I do not hate them. I admire them but keep my distant because frankly speaking, I don’t have the fight in me any more to bother with their bullshit or their agendas. Sorry for the long rant and sorry to the rest of you for not talking football.

@Matthew: You’ve got great taste in movie mate but I hope you branch out a bit more outside of the mob related genre that makes up most of your top ten. I love mob films and action films but I love a lot of other films and genre’s too. I probably own one of the largest war movie collections in Canada. I also enjoy science fiction and am still a sucker for romantic comedies around Christmas time. I can’t get enough of “Love Actually” or “Notting Hill” because I am hopeless romantic even though i have sworn off the female species for life. They smell, taste and feel nice but I hate everything else about them.
I also like fine television shows like Band of Brothers, From the Earth to the Moon, The Shield, Spooks, Dr Who and Battlestar Galactica (the new version) etc. I have a large selection of great British dramas and comedy series. In fact most of my favorite series are British although if I was to recommend a tv series that I think you would like, it would be the late 80′s mob series “Wiseguy”. The first season is amongst the best tv I have ever seen. Very much like Donnie Brasco. In fact I loved the short lived series “Falcone” which was based on Donnie Brasco. But I hate the “Sopranos” Overrated and the last four seasons were just dull dull dull and overly pretentious. Do you have any tv faves?
My favorite tv series of all time are British. The 70′s spy series called “the Sandbaggers” and of course the god-like “Blackadder” series.

Dan, i doubt we will see foster, rooney or tosic today mate. I just hope we dont go with fletcher and park because seriously watching these 2 running around at times can be embarrassing, i mean would they even get into west hams team every week. Anyway this isnt supposed to be a rant over these 2, so i will tell you how i exopect the team to look like:
vds
oshea rio vidic evra
park carrick giggs ronaldo
berba tevez
I just cant see us starting brown, he would be my pick if rafael is out and as we know neville i believe is definitely out so yes i would start brown, however with very limited playing time i expect to see the sometimes scary sight of oshea playing right back. Evra i pray will be thrown back in immediately, the guy is just a great LB and if hes back he gives us so much so i hope he starts. Park now seems a regular and i can see him being put on the right to help out oshea and stop any runs from illunga. Giggs, well fergie is so unpredictable he puts giggsy in such random games and i can just see him starting today for some reason. Im not sure this is the right game for him to be starting but for me anyone over flether is a good change so im not complaining. Ronaldo will probably be on the LM side to attack lucas neill if hes playing and rooney i think will be rested. Thats how i think our team will look anyway.

@Grognard: You dawg!
Some of the things you say really remind of me. Like people thinking you are gay because you have so many girl friends. But its just the charm and personality we were born with. Im half Italian, so I get where you are coming from.
But I enjoy life for now, and I dont see why I shouldnt. Life will teach me lots of hard lessons, some more terrible than others, and I will have to take them in my stride. Thats what Ive always done. Ive not slept with many girls, because even though they looks “loose” here they are more careful than you would think. Some of them want to wait 6 months to move to 3rd base! You seem to have been more crazy than me, but we will wait and see what happens in ten years time. Still, I think my life is awsome!

I think it’ll be 4-4-2 to start with and possibly moulding into a 4-3-3 if we maintain a stronghold on the game.
Our record in London in recent seasons has been abysmal. I don’t give a shit about the records, i just want the win, if we win and keep a clean sheet, then awesome, but first and foremost is 3 points.

I reckon it is a 4-4-2. Fergie will play Rooney on the wing sometimes, but he doesn’t do that as much with Tevez. No doubt he believes that Giggs second wind will extend to playing on the wing. I don’t understand it personally. Id have gone with Carrick and Giggs in the middle and placed Park on the right and Ronaldo on the left.

Rooney and Evra have been left out because of the weather up north. Fergie feels they haven’t had enough training in so is leaving them out as a precaution. Both should figure against Fulham. GNev out with a bug.

Dan if you read my post carefully you’ll see the point I was making that BECAUSE Rooney is not playing I didn’t expect a 4-3-3 as Tevez cannot play on the wing.
Turns out we are going for a 4-4-2 with Giggs on the RIGHT WING!

This was always gonna be a tough match. If Livpool hadn’t won yesterday, I think Fergie would have been very happy with a draw the way things are going. Now however, we need to eke out a 1-0 somehow. But WestHam is playing very well so it’s not gonna be easy. I’d like Nani/Park to come on for Scholes and Giggs to swap with them.

One of the worst games i have seen in a while. FFS ferguson what the hell is the point of playing ronaldo on the left and giggs on the right. I thought the days were past when we saw giggs on the wing cos of some of his awful performances there, and today he is showing exactly why his time on the wings is well and truly over. If he has to play why not on the left where he played for years, why play on the right where he never plays and play our best winger on the left where he looks crap. He cannot even cross the ball of the ground for 1 of our men to get their head on once from what ive seen. God do we just play players anywhere even if they dont play in that position. God the tactics this year have been a joke, that yes man phelan offers us nothing. Scholes has been utter garbage too, ffs fergie stop playing the old men, if they dont deserve to play on form then dont play them. I said to start they wouldnt be able to hack this type of game, too much in your face and at their age they dont have the speed to pass and move to the expected standard. I bet we get more of the same in the 2nd half, giggs will play the full 90 mins and we will never bring on a genuine attacking player like wellbeck, fabio or nani. We have got so predictable at times it amazing we are still in the title race. You may think this is an over reaction based on the 1st half, but seriously no real chances for us against a average west ham is not what we should be expecting. I hope to god we win but i cant see it and the blame again will have to be on tactics and formations put out by ferguson.

West Ham are hustling us. We need someone in the middle who can get stuck in and push West Ham back so our forwards can push up a bit and actually play in the box.
Ronaldo is our only attacking threat and he is getting double-teamed by Behrami and Neill.

@RMJ: Rafael should really need to realise there is a thing called passing sideways… I’ve lost count the amount of times he’s lost the ball from wanting to push forward. But other than that he’s been decent.
However Scholes’ inclusion for me is baffling. We know that West Ham always plays with its guts on the table against us, not the match for him to impose his playmaking. I would have preffered Giggs, Ando or Fletch as Carrick’s partner…

Fuck am I hung over.
But I’m awake and watching my boys play a very fast paced and entertaining first half with relatively no shots on goal. United are playing well up front. They are moving the ball well and showing their old style pace and commitment but credit to West Ham, without having parked the bus entirely, they have played tremendously well defensively and their back four is just not letting anything or anybody through. It’s times like this when we are in need of a player who can live in the box and a player like a Riquelme who knows how to execute a chip lob.
Our back four is solid but they started out a bit shaky as Carlton Cole has given Rio some fits. That one break early in the game should have been a yellow card for Rio but the ref thought we were Liverpool so he decided not to call it. Rio has looked out of focus and a step slow on a number of plays. I think he’s lost some of his fitness and quickness because of his layoff and back injury. Hopefully he will get it all back before we play Liverpool.
Ronaldo has looked like the Ronaldo of old. Dribbling at people and challenging them. He should have scored on the near post header he made a meal of. That would have been a goal last year. I just can’t put my finger on why all aspects of his game have suffered this year. Berba has been strong and made some very strong runs but Tevez needs to get deeper into the box and become more of a target for wide balls.
Rafael has looked good but I am not sure playing Scholes with Carrick is a good idea. Carrick goes into a bit of a shell when he plays with Scholes and today he is hanging back too much. Scholes has been alright and he is doing his imitation of the Pinball Wizard again trying to thread a needle through a haystack with his ill timed shots.
Well here’s hoping we make a breakthrough in the second half or it could be a 0-0 draw which is what I predicted. West Ham is playing like a good club and credit has to go out to Zola for a fine job. They aren’t playing like muppets. We need some Ronny or Berba magic.
Where the Hell is Craig to give me some pointers on dealing with hangovers?

We should take Scholes off and put on Nani or Park on the wings. I think Giggs and Carrick in the middle could do a better job at unlocking WH’s defence and Nani or Park would give us a lot more energy on the flanks and stretch West Ham so that they leave more gaps through the middle.

Giggs clearly presents no attacking threat, he is clearly waay too old and had an average 45 minutes of football after 3 or 4 amazing performances, it’s clearly time for him to hang up his boots
btw he has now scored in every season of the PL. Now there’s a record. 10 mins to go for Edwin’s.

Win is a win, but this wasn’t the right game to say it. West ham and Everton were both good teams, but we still got the results. Great goal by Giggs and another great performance from the back 4. We had some shaky moments, but they didn’t make a single clear cut chance. If only Porthsmouth had 10% of Hammer’s guts, then the weekend would have been better.

Ive got to ask, why are we scared to bring on subs early on in the game if things arent going for us. Give us 10 mins after HT and things still arent going for us and we just leave it. Giggs was very poor, yes he scored the goal and he deserves credit for that, but why are we so slow to replace players. Mourinho used to make subs 5 mins into the second half if players werent pulling their weight.
Another thing on the subs point is why we never make attacking changes. This doesnt really count for today cos we were winning anyway so we didnt need any more attackers today, but in other games why are we so scared to bring on attackers. Had we been loosing it would have been fletcher and park on, why is wellbeck never being brought on even when the strikers are playing poor. We won today but again played poor, tevez and berba did aswell, had we been 0-0, i doubt we would bring on wellbeck even tho hes a striker. Its a small point but i think its a problem in that we are scared to change attacking ideas because we feel we cannot drop the strikers, even if for a young lad to replace him it shouldnt matter. Oh well, glad we won but still poor performances attacking wise, tactics are still terrible, i think a new or atleast another assistnat manager is needed desperatley as i feel phelan offers us nothing.
