Carrick: “Players are behind Van Gaal”

Screen-Shot-2015-12-26-at-15.13.21Michael Carrick has dismissed rumours of a dressing room mutiny, insisting Manchester United players are still fully behind Louis Van Gaal.

The Dutchman is on borrowed time at Old Trafford following four consecutive defeats in all competitions and is widely expected to lose his job, should United fail to beat Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday.

Carrick, however, said the manager retained his players’ support.

“Listen, people talk about support, but it’s not like the lads go out and don’t play,” he said.

“We go out there as professionals who are playing for this special club. We’re in a privileged position. For me, I look at myself at what I can do better as an individual.

“I have a lot of pride in myself and in my performances and I think it is a bit disrespectful when people say the lads aren’t trying for the manager.

“That hurts us a lot because that’s not the type of people we are.

“We haven’t won games and it’s fair enough if people criticise things that have gone wrong on the pitch.”
