Champions League Re-cap: Our Journey to Rome…

48315The dust has just about settled following our magnificent victory over Arsenal that has booked us a place in Rome to face Barcelona in the Champions League final.

I wouldn’t say I’m relieved to be playing the Catalans but having lost the trophy in the manner that Chelsea did last season, revenge would have been very much on the agenda for Terry et al so in a way I’m glad we’re avoiding them. With the news that a Fletcher appeal may just be on the cards too, well it doesn’t get much better than this does it?

So what better way to celebrate than to have a re-cap of our tremendous run to the Stadio Olimpico which has comprised of twelve games and eighteen goals. Enjoy!

0-0 vs Villarreal at Old Trafford (Opening Group E fixture) – 17th September 2008

Having just succumbed to Liverpool at Anfield the previous weekend and thrown away the chance of silverware in the Super Cup prior to that, the defence of our Champions League crown started as frustration personified.

Despite this particular fixture yielding the return of Ronaldo, we failed to break through the resilient Yellow Submarine with both sides striking the upright during the 90 minutes.

Team: Van der Sar; Neville, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra; Park (Ronaldo 62), Fletcher, Hargreaves (Anderson 62), Nani; Tevez (Giggs 81), Rooney.

3-0 vs Aalborg at the Aalborg Stadium (2nd Group E Fixture) – 30th September 2008

Rooney 22, Berbatov 55, 79

I think we all remember this match as the evening that Dimitar Berbatov announced himself in a Manchester United shirt. There was also a debut for a once little-known Brazilian Rafael Da Silva too.

After Rooney gave us the lead in the first-half we kicked on after half-time and Berbatov atlast silenced some of his critics to score two goals, taking us to the top of the Group E table.

Team: Van der Sar; Rafael (Brown 66), Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Ronaldo, Scholes (Giggs 16), O’Shea, Nani; Rooney (Tevez 59), Berbatov.

3-0 vs Celtic at Old Trafford (3rd Group E Fixture) – 21st October 2008

Berbatov 30, 51, Rooney 76

The Battle of Britain, or so it was billed, saw us ease past Celtic as a brace for Berbatov and a fantastic strike from Rooney handed us all three points.

Although with Villarreal beating Aalborg, only goal difference separated us from the La Liga side going into the fourth round of group matches.

Team: Van der Sar; Neville (Brown 60), Vidic, Evans, O’Shea; Ronaldo (Park 82), Anderson, Fletcher, Nani; Berbatov (Tevez 60), Rooney.

1-1 vs Celtic at Celtic Park (4th Group E Fixture) – 5th November 2008

McDonald 13, Giggs 84

It was always going to tough facing Celtic in Scotland and with Scott McDonald opening the scoring after 13 minutes, we knew we had a game on our hands.

On a night when Fergie opted to give Ben Foster his European debut fortunately Ryan Giggs came up trumps to head home late on following Boruc’s failure to deal with Ronaldo’s swerving effort.

Team: Foster; Rafael (Evra 66), Ferdinand, Vidic, O’Shea; Ronaldo, Fletcher, Carrick, Nani (Berbatov 46); Giggs, Tevez (Rooney 71)

0-0 vs Villarreal at El Madrigal (5th Group E Fixture) – 25th November 2008

Another meeting with Villarreal produced yet another stalemate but it mattered not as we secured our passage into the knockout stages of the competition.

The talking points from this one? Well a certain Italian referee that we’re all too familiar with took centre stage as he dished out a red card for Villarreal’s Spanish full-back Joan Capdevila (and rightly so too it should be noted).

Team: Kuszczak; O’Shea, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra; Ronaldo, Fletcher (Gibson, 80), Anderson, Carrick (Tevez, 86), Nani (Park, 84); Rooney.

2-2 vs Aalborg at Old Trafford (6th Group E Fixture) – 10th December 2008

Tevez 3, Jakonbsen 31, Curth 45, Rooney 52

With qualification already secure the final group game against Aalborg presented Ferguson with the perfect chance to rest some first-team regulars including Ronaldo, VDS, Vidic, Fletcher and Berbatov.

Celtic’s victory over Villarreal afforded us the luxury to be able to draw this one and still finish top of the group and with goals from Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney that is exactly what happened.

Team: Kuszczak; Neville (Rafael 76), Ferdinand, Evans, O’Shea; Nani, Gibson (Park 46), Anderson, Giggs (Scholes 46); Rooney, Tevez.

0-0 vs Inter Milan at the San Siro (First knockout round first leg) – 24th February 2009

It certainly looked a daunting task on paper. With no Vida and Wayne Rooney not included in the starting line-up we were facing an inform Inter Milan who were more than capable of causing us problems on the night.

Yet in a fascinating spectacle we took the game to the Italian giants and were unfortunate not to have nicked a goal, especially in the first-half.

With chances aplenty for the likes of Berbatov, Giggs and Ronaldo we were desperately unlucky not to be heading back to Old Trafford with an away goal but we were certainly in the driving seat with a draw.

Team: Van der Sar; O’Shea, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra; Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs, Park (Rooney 83); Berbatov, Ronaldo.

2-0 vs Inter Milan at Old Trafford (First knockout round second leg) – 11th March 2009

Vidic 4, Ronaldo 49

I think everyone inside Old Trafford that night had the lingering image of Jose Mourinho sprinting down the touch-line lodged somewhere in their heads. Surely our defence of the European crown wouldn’t be brought to an abrupt end by the former Chelsea manager of all people!

Fortunately Vida gave us the perfect start and after Inter had squandered some decent chances to score that all important away goal, up popped Ronaldo to head us into the quarter-finals and send Mourinho packing.

Team: Van der Sar; O’Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Ronaldo, Carrick, Scholes (Anderson 70), Giggs; Rooney (Park 84), Berbatov.

2-2 vs FC Porto at Old Trafford (Quarter-final first leg) – 7th April 2009

Rodriguez 4, Rooney 15, Tevez 85, Mariano 89

I don’t know where on earth they mustered this performance from but Porto looked potent and a worryingly decent outfit in the first leg.

We can make excuses about the players being tired but credit to the Portuguese side for coming to Old Trafford and having a real good go at us.

After Rodriguez’ opener and Rooney’s leveller I think we were all just relieved when Carlos Tevez pounced and looked to have given us the win in a game where we deserved little.

But with Mariano snatching a late equaliser, the return leg in Portugal looked ominously tough even with the array of attacking talents at our disposal.

Team: Van der Sar; O’Shea, Vidic, Evans (Neville 72), Evra; Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes (Tevez 72); Park (Giggs 58), Ronaldo, Rooney.

1-0 vs FC Porto at Estadio Dragao (Quarter-final second leg) – 15th April 2009

Ronaldo 5

One magical swing of Cristiano Ronaldo’s wand of a right foot was enough to put us into an all English semi-final tie with Arsenal.

The timing of the goal was absolutely crucial and seemed to knock the stuffing out of a Porto side that had looked so threatening a week earlier in Manchester.

With Rio and Vidic in commanding form, nothing was going to stop us in Portugal as we made history by becoming the first English side to win at the Dragao.

Team: Van der Sar; O’Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Giggs, Carrick, Anderson (Scholes 78); Rooney, Berbatov (Nani 68), Ronaldo.

1-0 vs Arsenal at Old Trafford (Semi-final first leg) – 29th April 2009

O’Shea 17

Who would have thought it? Our only goal-scorer in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final turns out to be our versatile if not majestic defender John O’Shea!

Wenger claimed one goal wouldn’t be enough and after dominating from start to finish against the Gunners, Fergie and the lads were undoubtedly frustrated at having only beaten an in-form Almunia once.

Team: Van der Sar; O’Shea, Ferdinand (Evans 87), Vidic, Evra; Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson (Giggs 66); Ronaldo, Tevez (Berbatov 66), Rooney.

3-1 vs Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium (Semi-final second leg) – 5th May 2009

Park 8, Ronaldo 11, 61, van Persie 76

Cristiano Ronaldo effectively put those ‘not a big game player’ jibes to bed in a masterful performance that booked our ticket to Rome.

In all fairness the whole team was in imperious form as we brushed Arsenal aside, running Arsene Wenger’s young guns ragged for ninety minutes without reprieve.

Park got us off to the perfect start and then Ronaldo’s thunderbolt of a free-kick put us firmly in the driving seat before his second, a superb flowing counter-attack put the icing on the cake.

The only sour point of the night arrived 14 minutes from time when Fletch was wrongly sent-off for a challenge on Cesc Fabregas but there could still be light at the end of the tunnel following today’s revelation from UEFA secretary David Taylor.

Team: Van der Sar; O’Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra (Rafael 65); Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson (Giggs 63); Park, Ronaldo, Rooney (Berbatov 66).

? vs Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico (Final) – 27th May 2009

So this is it! Will we create history in Rome by becoming the first team ever to win successive Champions League titles?

Well with Abidal, Dani Alves, Milito and Marquez all unavailable, Barca will certainly have their work cut out trying to contain our frightening attacking line-up.

  • @Craig Mc: Yeah, beat City and Wigan and then we just need one point from the last two games. Plenty of time for rest then!!

  • @Craig Mc: I agree, put the big guns out tomorrow and get this league wrapped up, three points tomorrow and another three during the week will surely have the fat lady clearing her throat, we can rest players in the last two games, besides, this team is only starting to find its rythym, dont tinker too much now.

Amen to that, or should I say “God Save the Queen”!!

  • @Traverse: City is not a concern mate. We are healthy, motivated and have our mojo back. Besides, what do you think the mathematical chances are of Shitty beating two years in a row at OT? Pretty slim and none I’d say. We wipe the pitch of Shitty tomorrow 3-0 or 4-0. Perhaps we are kind and give them a goal but that is all. The lads can smell it and I know they would like to get it over with way before the CL final. City and Wigan should be easy because one sucks on the road and the other is in tailspin mode in the second half of the year.

  • @Redrich: I don’t know why my statement came out in bold type but anyway, God Save the Queen just doesn’t fit the subject matter but it still would be awesome wouldn’t it? How about “Anarchy in the UK” or “Submission”? Ronaldo style and attitude is a sort of anarchy against the British footballing establishment and all the teams that eat one of his great goals suffer from a kind of submission. In fact, after he scores the look on all their faces looks “Pretty Vacant”.

  • @Fred The Red: Oh I think that is exactly what Fergie will do. I think he is hoping and planning a blitz of both Shitty and Wigan and hope to be able to put out the reserves against Arsenal and Hull City so that his stars are well rested and healed for the Final.

On another note, It sounds like Barca is appealing the Abidal red card. That doesn’t surprise me but to appeal the Alves one is just outrageous. What will be totally outrageous will be my reaction if their cards get overturned but Fletcher’s doesn’t. Fear that happening because Grognard will go on his loudest and craziest tirade to date. I expect it to happen to because UEFA are hypocritical assholes of the first order.

  • @Grognard: In stern, and austere UK circles, the final words of a speech, recital, prayer etc. could end with either Amen or God Save the Queen. The two, do somewhat interchange. So,    (not).

Be cool, man, nothing meant by the bold. Just my way of quoting.

  • Anyone seen this story in the Times?
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/manchester_united/article6257383.ece
Tevez has said that he sees his future as being with another Premier League club. I understand his frustration but if I were Fergie I wouldn’t play him again (barring an injury crisis). Comments like that are not helpful to the team and reveal what is essentially selfishness. The respect I had for him as a player is all but gone; no matter his efforts for the club in the past and his place in the pecking order, comments like that are out of line and have become increasingly frequent as the season nears a close.

He has had over 3000 minutes of playing time this season, and although he hasn’t appeared in many of the big games this is linked to his meagre return of 13 goals (4 of which came in one game against a weak Blackburn side). He needs to look at himself and ask whether his relegation to the bench for big games is because of favouritism or because he simply has been below-par this season.

It’s sad that it has come to this but I really don’t think anyone can be blamed but him, and he is certainly not helping his case with these statements. I just hope his “respect” and “love” for the fans extends far enough to prevent him playing for City or Liverpool next season, because when he plays well he’s damn good.

  • @Grognard: I don’t think EUFA have an appeal process, other than one based on the club begging for mercy. The don’t review video evidence and so these apeeals become purely symbolic.
SAF has said himself that Fletcher will more than likely miss the final and so I really can’t see Barca’s plea’s being anymore successful.
They appealed because we appealed, and if they granted a reprieve for Flecher the whole thing would just blow up in their face. The EUFA officials are fuckers and so are Barca!!

  • @Redrich: No problem mate. Actually I was half asleep and thought that I had created the bold before you copied and pasted.

And when you said God Save the Queen, I thought you were referring to the Sex Pistols tune because I brought up Syd Vicious. I never realized that you meant it in the Amen manner. So call me dim and shine a light on me.

  • @michael: If all of this true, then Tevez is just looking after his own interests. He sees himself as a marketable product and so wants to realize his potential.
I certainly don’t feel bad that he’s putting himself about, after all who’s gonna pay his bills when SAF says “adios amigo”!!

  • @michael: You beat me to it mate. I was just about to post it and then I saw your reference to it. Carlos is a little sad and bitter about things. I feel his pain but in fairness to United, he works hard but doesn’t really deliver the goods in terms of goals. His goal production is only adequate if you take both seasons into account. If you take this season into account it’s bloody dreadful for what he values himself at. Somebody should really volunteer to drive him to the airport. By Carlito, don’t forget to write.

  • @Redrich: No, I don’t blame him honestly. He’s still a very good player who works his ass off, he’s just not right for us. Wherever he goes (as long as it’s not Liverpool), I widh him well because to the fans and to the club he was a class act. You cannot blame him for feeling unloved by United and for wanting to start based on last year’s performance and based on the fact that Berbatov has not been a great success.

  • @Grognard: The whole attacking aspect of our game has been an enigma all year long. Who would have thought, when this season started, that Berbatov and Tevez would NOT be our go to strikers when the clutch time rolled around. I mean it would have been unthinkable, and laughed out of this forum!
One of the greatest aspects of this game is its unpredictability, so I guess we shouldn’t be that suprised by it all.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Redrich: Fair enough that he has a family and a future to look after, but these comments could have waited. The only thing putting them out now does is disrupt team morale; he could easily have waited until after the season to declare his intention to leave so openly.

Thinking about it, perhaps this is the price we pay for not punishing Ronaldo after that whole Real saga.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @michael: This is the price we pay for sitting Tevez on the bench!
I have not been a proponent of him this season, because I feel his skill sets does not match our needs. In his heart he, also, knows this to be true and so he now has his self and his future to take care of.

Players are very aware of the pitfalls that face them as a pro, and I think Carlito is well versed in all of this. He is simply taking care of his family and himself, just the same as any other player would do.
Carlito will still do the job for us, if asked, and the rest of the team will love him because of that.

    I don’t see this as a problem!

  • @Grognard: Tevez has been a good servant and hard worker who has chipped in with some important goals in his two years with us, the loan fee that we paid for him was worth the money and it is sad that we will probably be leaving.
But lets be honest about it, and Im sure you will agree, the figures being quoted to make his signing permanent are way too much for him, if we got him for 15 to 18 million then maybe, any thing more than that, no way. He lacks the class and end product to be considered a 25 million plus player and after paying over the odds for Berbatov last summer I think that 30 million could be invested a lot wiser this time around.
If Joorabchian can get 40 million for him overseas then good luck to him, I doubt any english club will pay more than 20 for him with the exception of maybe City, or Chelsea on one of Mr Abramovitchs more generous days.

Its possible that he could sign for one of our rivals and make them a better side, so be it, hes not what we need for that sort of money, we should thank him, wish him and move on.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Redrich: some good points there about Tevez, I thought he was decent in his first season with us, but I was expecting more, when he didnt deliver in his second season then my suspicions about him that I harboured from his first seasons performances were proved right.
We are crying out for a more orthodox no9 and our money would be more wisely invested in a player of this type coz I hate to admit this but can you imagine the damage Fernando Torres would do if he played for our team.
The closest thing out there at the minute is Karim Benzema, so SAF should keep the Tevez money and test Lyons resolve with it in the summer.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Fred The Red: I agree with that statement almost entirely. I do think it’s the pressure that Joorabchian has put on the club that has made the decision on him to be a difficult one, and in a sense, inevitable.
The 30 mil has made Carlito expendable, much more than the issue of his form!

If he leaves, I will certainly wish him well. But at that price the money could be spent wiser!

By the way, he does have class, and it’s because of that, that I think the parting of the ways will be amicable.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Redrich: he has class as person, no doubt about it, but I meant class as a footballer, he is a good player, but his lack of pace and top level cutting edge in the last third make him no more more than a 15 million pound player for me.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Redrich: Its hard to tell what SAFs masterplan is, I can remember telling a work colleague that perhaps the reason we hadnt secured Tevez on a permanent deal was because we had couple of young Italians in the reserves that were making waves and low and behold a while later Macheda made his debut.
The other one is Davide Petruci, who is rumoured to be the more gifted of the two and who plays in the same position as Tevez.
It wouldnt be the first time that SAF has cleared the way for young players he believes in.
Also the young Sebian that we left in Belgrade certainly appears to be impressing, http://www.skysports.com/football/transfers/scout

You just never know what is going to happen in the summer.

  • @Fred The Red: How has Petrucci been doing for us? I’d almost forgotten about him (to be honest I think I got him mixed up with Macheda), but the buzz seems to be that he’s a bit special. Has anyone watched him play? It’s hard to judge a player from his highlight reels on youtube…

  • @Redrich: And we shouldn’t take what Fergie says seriously because all he ever does is talk with praise about both of them. Fact is, he realizes they were a mistake and in situations like this, they don’t fit in. Jeez! Berbatov was bought just for the Champions League. When does a manager admit to the world that he made an error in judgment? I just think he has come to terms with it and he has found a way to make it work without both of those fellows spotty contributions.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @michael: I don’t think it does anything to team morale. What it is doing is hoping to force Fergie’s hand. Either way he wants me or he doesn’t and maybe by crying betrayal he will consider starting me in the final. It’s Carlito’s cry for one last chance to shine as a starter and be noticed. If he honestly didn’t care about United and the fans, he wouldn’t be talking. There is only 5 total games left, he’s shutup and sit out the string and then leave. But this is a loyal guy fighting for his place and a little respect. And I for one have to respect him for it. He won’t be back, but I’d like to see him go with a bang.

  • @Redrich: “Players are very aware of the pitfalls that face them as a pro, and I think Carlito is well versed in all of this.”

I respectfully disagree mate. Players today are dumb muppets. They are egotistical and arrogant mercenaries who feel they are the best thing since sliced bread and who feel that if they go to whatever team shows interest in them, that they will automatically succeed as starters. This attitude really bugs me. Look at Franck Ribery. He IS the major star in the Bundesliga and barring injury, he starts every game for Bayern but that’s not good enough. No he needs to go to Barcelona. Why Barcelona? Oh because they are good. How good are they? Too good to find a spot in the starting lineup for Ugly Franck. Where would you start him? Would you sit down Henry, Messi Iniesta Xavi for him? Maybe, but that would be insane. Ribery doesn’t offer Barca anything that they don’t already have, but he still wants to go there. So when he ends up on the bench, what the frak is he going to do then? Bitch about how unhappy he is.

Michael Ballack decides to go to Chelsea who already had two attacking box to box midfielders and so under Mourinho he was benched a lot and even when he started for the next three managers, it was in a role that doesn’t bring out the best in him. It was as a DMF. Had he gone to United who wanted him, he would be the attacking midifelder has lacked and a fixture in our starting side. Horses for courses. Look at Real Madrid. For 5 years now they buy too many forwards and too many similar midfielders but they still don’t get the fact that they fail is because they have done nothing concrete about solidifying their back four. Instead they have talent like Sneijder and van der Vaart on the bench and have benched Huntelaar after he scored 10 goals in 9 games for no apparent reason. But those players wanted to go there so whatever happens to them serves them right.

Players who are good feel they are God’s answer to every team’s needs and concerns. They are egotistical and arrogant yet not very realistic. They want their cake and eat it as well. Some get that but most find themselves in a battle to keep their place. Some say they look forward and they seek that kind of challenge. Bull crap. Why would any player want competition for his job. What he should want is a guarantee that he is on the starting 11 list every game like a Rooney and Ronaldo. For those that are just happy to be on a good team and to play a role, I have no issue with. I hate the prima donnas who feel they are God’s gift to the game and who feel they should start so they choose teams that are packed in their position of choice. Shit for brains really. I bet you when Tevez goes he will go to a team like Real who spend money like idiots and a team that doesn’t need his services. It’s time that players used common sense when they choose the teams they want to play for and to find in the process a little humility because in todays mercenary driven game, they will not be alone fighting for the same position and playing time.

  • @Fred The Red: Carlito isn’t worht more than 15 million in my opinion. All the hard work in the world might appease blue collar types who are so dim that that bright and shiny objects get them all excited but he doesn’t impress me whop would like to see a striker with more finesse and finishing skill than what Carlos offers with those two finesseless mallets he has for legs. His first touch and his control of the ball is really pathetic at times and really, I don’t always buy the idea that he creates havoc for defenses with his hard work and effort because frankly very little of a positive nature ever happens when the ball is at his feet.

He seems most dangerous at moments where he is literally inside the 6 yard box near the goalkeeper and he gets a ball crossed or deflected into his path. Anything farther out and he rarely offers us a thrill. And yet I like him and appreciate what he does do for us, but not at the asking price they want for him. No way in Hell. I wish him all the luck in the world but United can find a lot better for that price.

  • @Fred The Red: That’s exactly the way I felt. When we first got him on loan last year I was indifferent because I was hoping for much more. Yet he was a pleasant surprise but at no time did he wow me so much that I felt we had finally found the right partner for Rooney. I just felt he was not the prolific RVN type of striker we needed.

Well two years have passed and exactly what I thought would happen. I knew he would struggle this year with Berbatov here and ironically, Berbatov hasn’t been much better and still Carlito never ever took the opportunity when he came into games to really make a statement. Sorry but 4 goals in a Carling Cup game doesn’t count. I felt bad for him because he always gave the strong effort but with all that strong effort I never saw what I wanted to see which was more goals or at least a lot of assists. He’s just not that good. So many people have blinders on because of his work ethic and his attitude towards the fans. I don’t get so easily seduced.

  • Tevez needs to fuck off then! NO player is bigger then Utd, no player!

If he stays in england, we all know what club hes going to play for it, lets not beat about the bush, its liverpool. Liverpool are the club that will sign him, not city, not chelsea, liverpool, and the second, not even the second, the giga second i see him in the red of liverpool, everything, absolutely everything he did for our club will be undone, and he’ll be dead to me!

The lad thinks that because fans chant argentina and for to be signed up, its a good enough reason to sign him for THIRTY MILLION POUNDS! No! we could sing much, much better players for that amount of money.

go away tevez, your quickly dying to me, and when you sign for liverpool, DONT expect a warm welcome when you meet us next season.

  • @michael: have not heard a lot about Petrucci lately but he was always considered the more technical of the two, I dont think He has developed physically as fast as Macheda so it might be a while yet before we see him, but lets not forget. theyre still only 17.
If you have checked the link that I posted in post 227, Ljajic defo seems to be making waves in Serbia, Skysports ran the rule over nearly 50 of the top kids around and he, to the best of my knowledge came out on top.
I have seen some recent clips of him playing and he defo looks a class act with the ball at his, the youtube clips of him are from a while ago and he looka immature in them, but in the more recent clips he seems to have really thickened out and without trying to get carried away about him, I can see in his style and movement why some Serbians have named him Little Kaka.

  • @Dan: If Tevez leaves for Liverpool, IF, then he will be dead to me, he will mean nothing to me anymore. I will only see betrayal and shallowness when I see his face. That ugly, gorilla loking face…

What I have learned from all of this are that Argentinians play with heart, but do not understand the meaning of it. Heinze, Tevez, Higuain…
What are the chances of us getting Messi or Aguero now?

  • So, derby day today! Even though I dont live in Manchester, or England for that matter, this fixture means a lot to me. And after last season result I want, no… I fucking DEMAND a United side that goes for it and wins with style. We are in such great form at the moment, I really cant see how anyone can stop us. And I hope no-one does! But Shitty have a habit of spoiling the scripts for us, but most of those days our players seemed careless wile Citys players looked like they were on steriods, nikotin, and had a sugar puff all at the same time. I dunno which United team will show up today, but I hope and demand a performance from every player! EVERY-FUCKING-ONE!!! Win this one, and then we only need 4 points from 9 to win the title. COME ON YOU REDS!!!

  • @Dan: I guess you’ll have to change your name Dan, I see both Berba and Tevez starting today. My team prediction:

    VDS
    Neville Rio Vidic Evra
    Ronaldo Scholes Carrick Giggs/Nani
    Tevez Berbatov.

Tevez hasnt started in quite a while, today might just be his chance. Also Rooney has not been rested for quite a while too.

  • I don’t see Rooney allowing himself to be rested. Fergie has said on many an occasion that he is a pain in the ass if he thinks he is going to be rested. He’ll just pester Fergie till he lets him play… like away to Roma in December 07 when we played all the kids…. and Rooney, who was captain.
