Citeh 1-0 Reds: Unbelievable

Update 3: There are two things that are happening at the moment. We can’t find the net even if the goal is a mile wide. Teams we play against suddenly have some Supermen springing up at their defence. Hahnemann in the Reading game, James in Portsmouth and this time Richards. Detailed report later. Just can’t believe it!

Update 2: At half time despite running all over City, United somehow manage to be behind by a goal. A deflected Geovanni goal (off Vidic) against the run of play separate the two sides.
And yeah, I fuckin’ can’t believe it! I guess so would you. We kept possession well, Nani had a few genuine chances. Tevez was good in patches but was isolated for most part. Hargreaves has been impressive and has stuck on to Elano for most part.

Oh, well. This season doesn’t look good as far as our luck seems to be going.

Update: Hargreaves to start today. Campbell on the bench. Giggs plays on the left with Nani and Tevez completing the front three. Watch this space for updates.

So we head over to City for a key game, crucial to our confidence and everything. Meanwhile two other biggies, Chelsea and Liverpool, clash with one another. Arsenal have a tricky trip to Ewood Park. So here’s hoping they all drop points. (Although, I’d rather Chelsea lose against Liverpool. We have a better chance catching up with the ‘Dippers.)

Back to the game, discuss away on our comment threads or better on our very own Man Utd forum.

Just dont know where the goals are going to come from today :/
We cant really expect Tevez to bang them in yet, so we’re going to have to rely on Giigs & Scholes, neither of which are prolific and guarantee you goals all the time. Wouldnt be surprised if it was won by a United defender or something. Heres hoping Nemanja can open up his account for this season !

  2. Hiram Gakembu says:

My line up for today: Sar, Brown, Evra, Vidic, Rio, Oshea, Carrick, Giggs, Nani, Scholes and Tevez. This means United to use Scholes as a co-striker with Tevez. Oshea to play defensive midfiled role while Carrick to play as an attacking midfielder. Giggs and Nani to play at the flanks while the defence remains as obvious. Target is to get an early goal by all means - including a header from Vidic from a corner by Nani. If we go ahead, we shoud not hold back waiting for the game to end - we learnt a lesson at Fratton Park where Scholes goal was cancelled by Benjani.

  3. Nino says:

We gotta kill off games, especially once we have got our noses in front, like in the portsmouth game as Hiram states. I predict united will kickstart their season with a 3-1 win, after city score first through bianchi, with tevez, scholes and giggs replying for us. The extra experience and class of United will ultimately prove the difference on derby day.

  4. dan un-official liaison says:

giggs is shite im sorry but he’s playing crap

  5. abood says:

    I can’t believe it…
    there goes the season

    its only half time dood

  7. Kurt says:

It’s only HT, don’t lose hope yet.

  8. abood says:

have you seen the way we’ve been playing since they scored?
bloody backtracking as if we’re in the lead

  9. dan un-official liaison says:

it was a cracking goal to be honest,is it vidics fault?

  10. dan un-official liaison says:

    how old are you abood?

  11. abood says:

    hahaha why do you ask?
    old enough to remember ‘99
allow me to rant plz…frustration is killing me

  12. joninjapan says:

    what the hell??

ok. . what are the odds of us winning the title without winning a game?

    probably not that good

    chelsea better lose

  13. Kurt says:

I think if last game wasn’t, it is definitely now the time to start panicking. But at least there were a few positives. Hargo finally made his debut, which is promising. Tevez took some decent shots, but came out with no goals. But this is only his second game with the team so just give it some time.

  14. Ollie Y says:

oh fuk! now wat? cant make any exuses we made soooooooooooooo many oppurtunities yet failed to score how did tevez not score??? atleast hargreaves played! but OMG wat will we do??? its not the title over but we have to win like the next 12 games!!! oh well, you win sum u lose sum- who am i shitting we should win them all!! im so pissed!!!

  15. Indian_devil says:

Well the match is over and im absolutely dissapointed at united’s lack of cutting edge which was abundant last season so in short i’m fuming and if SAF hears is it time to panic now!!!!!

  16. Taehr says:

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck!wats happening?wats happening?i dunno any1?we need a striker no doubt no doubt in my mind a big striker.dont give that quick striker mobile bs we need variety?nani shit, tevez shit, giggs shit, carrick shit, hargreaves was brilliant!

  17. indianpunk says:

    we are fucked
Tevez was shite (Probably needs match fitness but he took 20 matches to score 4 west ham )

Nani was crap scholes was frustrated with him on couple of occasions ronny was missed big time today

Hargo was briliant absolutely on the mark won most of his one on one battles and moved smooth passed smooth defended well

Evra was amazing when nani started making errors in first half evra moved up passed the ball and got the game back and even defended better

wes brown and carrick were at their usuall self nothing impressive

vidic what the fuck was that turning away bullshit man

Geovani’s strike was briliant deflection or not is debateable

Micah RICHARDs single handedly distroyed our attack every time he was there to clear things off top job by the lad
And yes finally we had the possesion we played like a team but hell we are so out of luck and fuck the flair and one touch shit get me goals i want a poacher and deadly in the box striker

All teams now know we are hopeless at spot kicks and corners fill payers in the box by numbers and we’ll blow it up god i miss Becks

Fergie why why why did ruud had to go u played shitty saha insteatd of him on that dreaded day and see today

Champions league here we come europe is the target now
See i am a bit optimistic after such a pessimistic post

  18. Liam O'Kelly says:

I think Campbell was the wrong choice for the bench. I would have preferred Dong because he is more experienced. Also as much as I hate to say it Fletcher would have been a better choice than Eagles. Carrick was completely anonymous and Hargreaves just went around smashing into Geovanni(after the goal) Tevez and Nani look like they have never played football before. We need a new striker desperately. ironically I think Bianchi would have been a great signing(Elano too) And now Arsenal are winning so the good news keeps rolling in.

P.S. Red Ranter is it time to panic now?

  19. @liff says:

What the hell is going on with Man United’s attacking!?
they can’t even tap a ball in from a couple of yards…
    This is very frustrating…
Bring out the hairdryer and get another striker in the transfer market.
    Do something man!
A state of emergency should be declared!
3 games and 2 points is downright unacceptable!
and why isn’t anybody trying to take a long shot or sth?
I’m pretty much sure every Man Utd fan is pretty much pissed right now.
    Who wouldn’t be!?
I would rather have them grind out a win rather than winning with beautiful football or whatever it is.
The point is, Man Utd can’t afford to lose or even draw the next few umpteen matches.
The players better start raising their game, and they better do so by the next match.

  20. real red says:

fukin’ devastating. really though this is UNBELEIVABLE! again, Fergie error in judgement is costing us….as he insits on backin OAP Giggs year after year were STILL relying on him when he clearly isnt up to the job. Nani is a serious player but its his 2nd game for the club so we really cant xpect too much from him just yet! if he were signed a year ago (like we were crying out for) we’d have been slightly better off as hed be more settled etc. its shite, Fergies indecision is fucking us royally at present! Thing is but…theres still a large part of me thats happy coz atleast weve Finnaly got the new/ good players in the squad. Its only a matter of time 4 every1 to get fit etc till we will see the REAL REDS! were gonna be immence. Just heard, Hargos knee is fucked after todays 90mins….it continues

  21. indianpunk says:

Liam its time to piss in our pants man hell its time to panic :)

  22. @liff says:

The only good that can come out today is only if chelsea loses. Other than that.. I’m gonna be damn pissed till the next fixture… and somebody better start pulling up their socks and banging in those goals by then..

  23. FUCK_BLUES says:

WHAT IN FUCKS NAME IS HAPPENING TO US, A SIDE TIPPED TO DO DAMAGE CAN’T FIND THE GOAL… YEA SURE MOST OF OUR GOAL SCORERS ARE INJURED BUT SAF SHOULD HAVE HAD A BACK UP PLAN ESP WITH OLE AND FUCKING SAHA SO INJURY PRONE, A TOP SIDE CANT JUST HAVE 2 FIT STRIKERS AND ITS COSTING US DEARLY.. WELL I GUESS WE HAVE TO RESORT TO THE OLD FASHIONED MANUTD WAY OF PLAYING FUCKING CATCH UP AGAIN WHICH WILL BE A VERY DIFFICULT ASK AS ALL THE PREM SIDES HAVE IMPROVED… SO IN REALITY SHOULD WE SAY GOODBYE TO THE PREM FOR THIS SEASON???? LETS LOOK AT THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND THE FA CUP WE DUE A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.. COME ON THE REDS

  24. Kai says:

I am about to cry.All hell break lose.Nani sucks.Tevez sucks. We need Ronnie and Roo for gods sakes. And saha if he can fucking stop his injuries. D:

  25. Andre Botelho - Soccer Articles says:

I completely agree… luck isn’t on their side. But it’s a long season so let’s hope everything gets better.

  26. Elton says:

it is absolutely vital we win against spurs. Otherwise it’l be too late to recover lost points.
I think we’r missing a leader on the field. without neville and rooney there’s no one vocal enough to push the team on.

  27. Grognard says:

OK the match is over and it’s time for me to vent. I said it even before the season started, around the time they sold off Rossi that United were far to thin depth wise at striker. Can you imagine that I was right. What’s even worse is that all these great midfielders we possess are incapable of one creative thought when it comes to penetrating the walls teams put up against them in the 18 yard box. The real problem facing United is complacency and arrogance. They assume because they are the champions that by just showing up for the match, that they will automatically garner 3 points. Also, their tactics are so predictable and static that no team is ever left wondering what SAF is going to conjure up to defeat them. Even though we are champions and even though I love the lads, I am starting to strongly believe that we have been riding a two headed horse named Ronaldo Rooney to glory for a few years now. Man Utd goes as these two players go. When they are out of form, injured or suspended, we are no better than the teams that half either drawn with us or defeated us this season. I’m sorry but Giggs and Scholes have not only become too old, but they are also predictable. Their past service is not in question, but their present form is questionable. Nani clearly has shackles placed on him as he is really afraid to let go and use his unique skills. He is also very nervous being the new kid in town with so many expectations. Carrick is incredibly overrated as is Evra. For me Tevez, the center backs and Hargreaves are the only players we can count on to give a strong and reliable effort. I am totally frustrated by the lack of quality service into the box as well as the quality of finishing this team has displayed thus far. They need to stress these two disciplines much more in training. Most of all they need to dig into the Glazer’s kitty bag for some cash and go out and buy a striker. At this point I will even welcome Sulky Anelka with open arms. One last observation. I wonder if all of you are as frustrated as I am with Van Der Saar’s inability to make a save when the opposition has their one opportunity all match. The goal scored by Pompey was a fine header but his inability to set his feet properly as well as his unwillingness to dive and at least attempt to save it was irritating to say the least. Although todays effort by Geovanni was well taken, deflected and well placed, I really feel Van Der Saar moved for it far too slowly. He did this on long shots all of last year too. I’m afraid Eddie is at last showing his age. It’s too bad Kasper Schmeichel felt that playing for United was going to be to pressure filled because he has impressed me and reminded me a lot of his old man as he takes charge of matters in the box. So what will we do? I have been in official panic mode before the season started because I could see the writing on the wall. But even I never honestly believed we would start out like this. The Manchester Derby was a must win for us for more reasons than just the rivalry. Pray for a Liverpool Chelski draw so that we are not looking at the leaders through binoculars. The season is not over but without Ronaldo for another two matches and no Rooney for god knows how long, I do not like our chances to even make the top four. Our lack of tactical imagination and crisp finishing will end up costing us before we correct the problem. Go back to a 4-4-2 and buy another striker. Start showing more pace down the wings and start crossing the ball better with pace and accuracy (Beckham style). SAF is a legend and perhaps it is blasphemy to criticize his approach but it is situations like this that I like a less rigid far more creative manager who will alter his team’s approach, not just shape to defeat a problem. The Special One and Rafa Benitez are able to do this with success. United on the other hand have a stubborn arrogance about them that seems to be stifling their charge. Bring in Cantona to scream at the lads about passion and commitment. What I would give for a maestro like that just behind two strikers and a player like Beckham who can cross the ball with accuracy and pace? Finally, Ruud Ruud where art thou????????

  28. Omegalon says:

    Amazing, I don’t believe it.

3rd game in a row with a great chance off the crossbar for us too.

It’s a run of bad luck, plain and simple.

  29. Red Ranter says:

Relax lads. It’s disappointing frustrating and all that. But most of your reactions seem like you were entitled to the title. Let’s not appear to be glory hunting fans here. Those of you cursing SAF not buying Ruud and cursing Saha where were you last season? Hindsight can be 20/20 but spare a thought. We are losing while playing well without Ronaldo and Rooney and Saha. They were the difference last season. Give it time, I’m sure well do better. Remember title is not everything. I’d rather settle for 2nd playing good football.

  30. Kurt says:

When do you all think Saha is going to start playing again, I know he’s been training, but when will he return to games?

  31. indianpunk says:

at united setling for second is not an option bro winning is everything u never win silver bro u always loose gold

though our trophys are referred as silverware silly aint it
i know Cliched shit but still aplplicable

  32. Elsammio says:

Ah well, let the city fans have their fun for now, what sir alex has done is similar to what arsene wengers been brewing in the last few years - a team for the future, and despite last seasons epic exploits we’re still a squad of mostly younguns who need time. Granted our summer additions to an already championship winning squad have given us more options, but they all, and in particular - nani, need time to flourish together as a unit, just as our 2006/2007 team did so well. The premiership might look to be gone already but the cups still offer a lot to play for and perhaps a chase from behind the leading contenders is just what we need.

  33. R... says:

I will support united even if the finish 10th. I am sick of this moaning.

  34. Al Nino says:

no need ta panic mates! its only the third game of the seaon and somehow as mentioned above theres a super hero in every team we play against. strange ey.. but i thought we had some good passing and movement between the team, and carrick, nani and hargo played decent.

yeah you can fault nani for missing the chance early on, but after that incident he was quite decent compared to the rest.

  35. Pedro Vilas-Boas says:

Well guys, it´s over! I don´t see how we are going to comeback from this…

I think we are playing quite decently, but we are not able to convert the chances.

I feel sorry for Tevez, he is really trying but he is not able to score one single goal. He was complety lost between Dunne and Richards and when he got the space…he missed! It´s simply not his position. He also missed a few chances with Portsmouth. Well… he will continue his saga with the Spurs and Sunderland.

About the others… Nani is playing a lot better that i was expecting at this stage. He was the best one in the first half. Hargreaves was one of the best ones and will take Carrick´s place for sure. By the way, Carrick´s play has been awful, he does nothing! Scholes has to go back on the pitch to do Carrick´s job and to produce “something”. Giggs is fading but he can still do something on the left, where he should play always…But again he needs someone to convert his crosses and assists.

    Champions League, here we go!

  36. Taehr says:

    Tevez needs a partner

  37. Ronak says:

The luck just isn’t going our way this season so far, and what’s more our next game is against a rejuvenated Tottenham side full of confidence.

However if we can get through the next 4 games with 8 points I think we’ll have a real chance of putting a string of victories together against Birmingham, Wigan, Villa and Boro. That would give us 22 points from the opening 11 games. Hardly setting the pace but very respectable given our start.

That’s assuming we can actually win a game though.

  38. Matt says:

The results are not that bad. Reading we should have won. Portsmouth are always a tough game and we’ve lost before to Manchester City at home.

But yeah definite problems. We play decent possession football but do not have anyone who looks like scoring with Rooney and Ronaldo and Saha out.

The whole theory is that we do not need an out-and-out striker so long as we have a front line of Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo overlapping. But if one of them is injured/suspended or as at the moment two of them, we are playing 4-5-1 and that is rarely going to win games against teams who come and defend.

Sometimes you just have to stick two men up front and then you know things will happen.

  39. Red Ranter says:

    [indianpunk]
It’s sad if that is your opinion. There is a disappointment if you finish 2nd, but it cannot be disgraceful or anything. It’s only the 90’s and early 2000s that we dominated. Doesn’t mean we are entitled to it. Just because we grew up in an age where United swept everything does not mean one bad start is unacceptable. As fans we should be a little more accommodating than that. Too much glory hunting, and we wouldn’t be very different from the chelsea fans.

  40. panks says:

we need a striker desperately.why can’t SAF see what we all see now?his stubborness will cost united dearly.with this finishing we’ll not even finish fourth.goodbye title and goodbye champions league next season.remember our debts will be cleared only if we r succesful so no success means no signings next year and further no success because all our rivals will definitely strengthen.a vicious cycle then we go leeds united way oh!god plz do not do this to us.

  41. Taehr says:

Come on panks thats a bit too much. Hargreaves should kick carrick out the team by spurs.if hes fit he was totally controlling and very very strong

  42. panks says:

what do u people think SAF will do if we lose to spurs next week?will he still laud his players for the beautiful football they played or will he consider the end result at last? i hope this doesn’t happen but i’m so dissappointed today.i had hoped that united would bounce back today but such poor finishing.we have created at least 100 chances in our three games so far and we have 1 goal to show for it.and SAF still doesn’t feel the requirement for a good goal poacher.shit even blackburn have 6 strikers.we’ve one in tevez.saha is made of glass, ole is old now, rooney injured and others are shit.do u think we can win anything with one striker that too not an out and out striker but someone who likes to play behind the main striker?

  43. str3tf0rd r3d 07 says:

serves SAF rite for selling rossi and smudger. giggs shud onli b employed on the wing as he is bullshit playing in the hole. also if i had a quid for evri game saha misses through injury then id b a billionaire. lmao

  44. Ollie Y says:

all we can hope for now is for others to drop points, which looks likely, and so far all the teams have dropped points except for fukin Citeh! 85 points would probably be enough to win the prem this season imho.

  45. Just1n says:

Hi i posted this on soccerlens. What do you guys think of trying to get Adriano on load for 1 year. He is out of favour at Inter but he is quality and could be the extra attacker we need. When Saha comes back he will take a while to get back to his best and the same with Rooney.

  46. united 4 eva says:

    1 name gudjohnson

  47. Nino says:

people relax, we are not exactly having the rub of the green at the moment but luck evens itself out over the course of the season and chelski, pool, arsenal and even city will also have lean spells in front of goal. just be thankful our blip has come early in the season when the title race is in its foetal stage. once we hit a blistering purple patch of goalscoring form (as we always do!), this blip will be long forgotten and we will be right back in the mix!

  48. Ron* says:

    1 name gudjohnson

Yeah because another deep lying striker is just what we need *rolls eyes*

  49. Ron* says:

    We just need Saha back.

  50. Mark says:

I have to catch the matches on tv here in the US. It’s still a thrill to watch win or lose. Hope for the win next time.

  51. Grognard says:

To all you wonderfully loyal fans who settle for mediocrity and complacency from your EPL champions, I salute you. Give me a frakken break. There is an old saying that goes like this; “What have you done for us lately”. Last season is old news. I don’t care if they were world beaters last season. All I know is this season they look disinterested, unimaginative an incapable of hitting the side of a barn from 4 feet. They look pathetic and above all the team has not just been outplayed but out managed in all three matches they have played. I am sick and tired of players always getting injured which makes me wonder what kind of fitness and physio training they are getting. Fine, Rooney’s injury could not be helped but even there, you have a player who has had a history of foot related fractures and he continues to wear modern shoes that are light and as soft as slippers. Not the protection a player like he needs after this injury history. Man U need to go get another top quality striker and right now. Not tomorrow, not next week, but right frakken now. Also, read some players the riot act. There is a term that is used in ice hockey when a player is not working hard, concentrating or going that extra mile, it’s called FLOATING. What we have is entire team floating. But eventually the boat will spring a major leak and end up like the Titanic. They should be ashamed of themselves. Allowing a useless bunch of misfits like Reading, Pompey and Man City to beat them or tie them is completely unacceptable. In the corporate world in which I work, the entire bunch would get the sack. You don’t pay that kind of money and receive that kind of aimless passionless play from your millionaires. SAF and Carlos need to go back to the blackboard and construct a faster more fluid style of 4-4-2 play that will also help players to create holes that TWO strikers up front can expose and take advantage of. The cream must rise to the top, instead of sitting in the heat and going sour. To all the lads and coaching staff at Man U I ask you……..NO, I plead with you….PLEASE WAKE THE HELL UP.

  52. Shyam says:

Hey guys!!…chill!!…WE are behaving like Chelski fans now!!!…We are going thru a patch where we “had” to throw in our new signings directly into action rather than the slow gradual settling in we all thought will happen…Nani and Tevez shud not be starting at this stage of the season if Roo and ronnie was there…They have been thrown into our style of play or tactics on one fine morning…Allow them to settle down…Stop Glory hunting!!!….BUY Another striker???my foottt…Dont that sound like a shitty money crazy Blue suckers!!!

  53. Steve from CA says:

There is no other explanation for the disappointing results other than a spell of bad luck. Look at the injuries we’ve had. Look at how well (relatively) we’ve been playing and then look at the fact that we have one goal in 3 games to show for it. We’ve dominated shots and shots on goal in all our games, but simply have very little to show for it. And look at the quality of the teams we’ve faced. Reading’s defense was brilliant, Pompey did a very good job and I doubt any team in the world could have scored on City the way Richards and the Great Dane’s son were playing today. I trust SAF when he says that he isn’t worried. It’s not that we haven’t found our form - it’s just that we have only one goal to show for it. And once Saha, Ole, Neville, Anderson, and Ronaldo are ready, we will be able to beat anyone. Rooney’s return in November will only give us another shot in the arm when we are finishing up the CL group phase. Just remember, we still have 35 more games in league and loads of talent. Of course there will be times when nothing seems to be going right, despite our best efforts. But I’m sure there will also be periods when all goes perfectly due to blind luck. Remember what happened in ‘99? I don’t think any Man Utd supporter can honestly say that the glory of that campaign would have been possible if not for some amount of luck.

  54. Babu R says:

This has been a worst weekend .

Yeah i am talking about the game we lost against City.

What i can’t believe is are we run out of luck ? Because we are playing a wonderful football, but we dont get the result we needed. Remember last year away match against Liverpool, we played awfully but we get away with a win at last minute.

This season we are having a nightmare start ,

First match 35 minutes Rooney injured and out for 2 months.
Second Match Ronaldo red card and ban for 3 matches.
Third Match we lost to our derby rivals.

Few positives from the match , Owen Hargreves - He delivered an outstanding performance.

Others played there part, but nothing eye catching. I have to say Richards outplayed our forwards.

My worry is what will be our confidence level when we play against Spurs?

Few Statistics, we haven’t won a premiership match since we our victory against City last year.

Chelsea is having all the luck in the world right now. They got away with a point by an unfair penalty.

What else can go wrong? i honestly wish , i will wake up from this nightmare dream sooner than later.

  55. akjaer20 says:

they broke my heart. i was always wary about this season, never wanting to hope too much after the capitulation in milan last season. i’m just praying things can be salvaged soon.

  56. Rick says:

Well when things go bad they go worse !
Abt yesterdays match it is clear we missed 3 first team players Ronaldo for Crosses , Rooney for Diving towards the cross and scoring and Saha making off the pitch speedy runs !

I must say it is damn disappointing to see manutd to see play like that esp in the 2nd half …But the first half was criminal waste of chances esp Nani …
Some insights from the game :
1)Many think we miss Roonsters but the person we miss MOST IS OUR CAPTAIN ‘GARY NEVILLE’ .. tell me in the past 3 matches how many crosses came from the right flank…
2)We are playing exactly like Arsenal thats because there are way too many passers in the mid-field , the Combination of Scholes and Carrick is not working for some reason
3)DEFENDERS SLEEPING IN ROTATION .. Many wont agree with this but the pompey match brown was sleeping so was vidic in the city match .. Evra is showing all signs of being the BEST LB THIS SEASON if given properly linked with Ronaldo can DO DAMAGE IN OFFENCE..
5)A striker like Saha .. Many talk abt 2 players Huntelaar and Anelka .. Well Huntelaar is damn good no doubt .. yest i saw the ajax match where he scored 4 goals .. can he do that ASAP In Manutd ? ESPN STAR said we r going after Anelka yest for 12mill … well the prob of him succeding his 70% but we all know abt fergie …
    4)ALL THIS IS TOSH ! :)…
Who knows what the inside problem is .. ? may be serious Fatigue .. I remember seeing a full strength Barca against BayernMunich where Barca missed around 10 easy goals that includes Ronaldhino and Henry ..

SAYING THAT OUR TITLE RACE IS OVER IS TOSH!

AS STEVIE G himself said ….

“As for the title race, it is too early to judge opponents. Manchester United have two points after their defeat today, but even if they had zero points I would say that they are serious contenders for the title, these things do not influence me.”

Please do remember he is a liverpool guy and even last season he praised abt our Manager more than anybody :)..

If we can do a double against Arsenal Liverpool and Westham :) the points lost can be more than recovered and will push us to top 4 ….

So lets wait and watch the Rumors and weekend match :)

  57. Grognard says:

“Bad luck”, “Chill!!, “we are going through a bad patch”, etc etc. What I am reading is a bunch of comments from people who think our only threat to the EPL throne is a team like Spurs or Newcastle. GGGGGRRRRRRRRRR!!! WAKE UP CALL!!! Chelsea and Liverpool are smelling blood and they are far too good to allow them a 6 to 9 point lead before the second week is out. Chelsea especially are extremely good front runners. United simply just cannot afford to let them get too comfortable before they even get into their stride. They have had injuries too, but they managed to make something out of their opportunities. To be completely honest, Mourinho has SAF number and we all know it. Forget the Charity Shield, that’s a friendly. As good as United were last year they probably would have finished second if Petr Cech hadn’t been hurt for a long spell. His absence supremely effected the confidence of Chelski. United had some injuries late in the year that probably cost us a bit but Chelsea have a way of making something out of nothing. They play a unattractive brand of football but they get the results. United on the other hand try to play attacking, attractive football but they lack tactical flexibility in the way they go about it. I just feel they are too predictable and thus, minnows and pretenders are putting up the Berlin Wall and defeating our lads best laid plans. I have already explained myself regarding this in a previous post however, I will add that I really feel that one of the biggest errors SAF and the club executives made was buying players like Nani and Anderson. They have the potential to be great additions three or four years from now, but lets not think for a second that the planet is littered with thousands of Cris Ronaldo’s or Lio Messi’s. Neither Nani nor Anderson will ever reach the potential that Cristiano will reach. His success has unfortunately placed SAF in a trance and now he feels their is a Ronaldo hiding on every Portuguese team. What United should have done was look for older more mature and far more accomplished players to fill their void. More substance nd less flash. Franck Ribery, Riquelme, Malouda, Van Der Vaart etc. Players who can help right bloody now. We are the defending champions, not graduates from the Championship Division. We are not Sunderland, we are Manchester United. Why are we building for the far future, when we should be building for now. The future is now. Even if I hate them as much as all of us, I admire Chelsea for going after players that can do it now. They don’t rebuild, they reload. Tevez and Hargreaves are players that help us reload, but Nani and Anderson cost a ton of money that could have gone to a left midfield player and striker of quality, skill and above all experience. Kids will only have us watch Chelsea lift the silverware at the end of this season while we struggle to even grab a Champions League spot. I’m sorry for the negativity but this is my gut feeling. I love United as much as all of you but I’ll be damned if I sit back and watch our lads play like clueless morons who belong in Division 1. Is it time to panic? Well if you mean do you want United to be 07-08 EPL Champions, yes it certainly is time to panic. Two seasons ago Chelsea lost one match, and three years ago Arsenal went undefeated. If all of you think dropping seven points to a bunch of useless tossers is acceptable and no reason to worry, then please place a LOSERS cap on your heads and accept your fate. Even if I’m just a fan, I am far too competitive to tolerate mediocrity from my footy heroes, turned zeros.

YOu said it RIcks !!! For Gods sake lets give the new buddies some time !!
heard somebody cursing nani and Tevez..its just their 2nd game ..can y please stop this businesss and do soemthing else….City and pompey had always been very tough for us !!!! and our season starts from next week as two big away games are over…remeer ciy at eatlands is always tougher than arsenal at emirates!! but we need a front man ..as Saha cant be relied upon

Sorry to say, but this sort of a glory hunting, instant gratification attitude is deplorable. If you are a fan, you’d show a little more patience.

  60. indiapunk says:

Well red ranter ur right we are being like chelski supporters and u guessed it right as well we were born in an age when united was the dominant force .

I see this year is just one of those seasons where we will be having lots of bad luck i just hope this does not carry towards the CL if we even win only that and loose fa and carling cup and the league i will still be dancing for me this year is only for CL and after seeing hargo yesterday i am sure we will strike and keep praying that no more injuries plz but seeing united at 16th place in table is a sad sight

though u know we will be up there but yesterday all the big four had bad games liverpool chealsea draw arsenal draw so thing are looking still bright every1 will loose point now and then but its still chelsea that i fear i believe arsenal and liverpool will drop points sooner then we think .

lets pray totties just crawl up in a corner and roll over next week while we run riot .
No more whinning tears on this front, whats happened has happened

Anelka is in news for a move to united what are ur suggestions is he worth it and i think he can fit the bill and would like to see him in united for sure what do u say

Dont give me gudjhonsen huntelaar and quagilera crap they a re not coming full stop.

  61. Julian Denny says:

You can do nothing about bad luck. Even their goal was a bit of a fluke. For the most part we played them off the park and if we’d had taken our chances it would have been a totally different story. On the bright side we saw the basis of an excellent system, with Hargreaves who is short of match practice excelling. But we must not play with an isolated striker upfront. When Rooney and Ronaldo are available - even before Rooney gets back say with Saha upfront with Ronnie & Tevez - there will be no need to.

  62. manutd jaluo says:

i still biliv in the team,,its a marathon not a sprint..other teams will also lose points on the way!~so cheer up guyz..man utd will win the league

    @ [26. Grognard says:]

I wanted to vent my anger, and give my opinion, but you summed it all up for me.
I could not agree any less with you, except for the striker bit. Maybe, just maybe if we revert to 442, we will not need to buy another striker. But, then again, with Rossi gone, thee’s no need NOT to get another striker.

When will SAF learn that 451 does not work for us? The stubourness is sickening!
Why persist with Giggs in hope of a moment of magic, when for 89minutes he is a waste of manpower (sorry Giggs - I love you, but…). To his credit though, his 2nd half performance was much better than his first, still not up to standard however. Ironically, that is the standard that HE set. Scholes the same. Why did we need a 5-man midfield against City anyway?

I don’t know. Toooooo disappointed to comment any more on this. All I can say is:
WE SHOULD NOT HAVE SOLD ROSSI!!!
If SAF could convince Ronaldo to stay, then to convince Rossi should have been a run in the park. it all up for me.

  64. karl says:

    @RedRanter [post 58]

I tend to disagree with your statement. We ARE supposed to win now, not win in a couple of years time.
SAF received the financial backing to draw a balance between defending OUR title and building for the future. We cannot live for the future. like he himself said, the league/title is our bread and butter. We need to eat NOW not in a couple of years time.

Everybody at the club knows that the expectations on manUnited is different than for other clubs. The fans EXPECT the team to win every game. We are not supporters of a team like Newcastle (nopun inteded) that will be patient whilst being satisfied with mediocrity.

    The future is now!!!

I guess I’m also just a frustrated fan, but I have the right to be. What is it now 1 goal in something like 55shots? That’s enough to frustrate anyone.

  65. Sam says:

not time to panic yet…chelsea and liverpool result not that bad for us. lets just wait till january when chelsea lose their key players and if were still well off the pace then lets begin to really panic.

  66. Sam says:

just to look at the match for a minute. we were playing two holding midfielders but giovanni still had about 2 minutes to line up his shot. vidic was jockying him towards the goals, not pushing him out wide daring him to go past. for me carrick and hargraves were getting dragged to far up the pitch, with the defence playing to deep. to much time for mancity to play in our own half. poor all round football by united there. but upfront nani looked good. lots of pace and a willingness to challenge the man just a lack of playing time with scholes and with tevez, will get better and i was pretty impressed. tevez looked a yrad short for pace. richards played out of his skin fantastic performance. but i dunno what was tevez. just lacking that extra yard of pace he seemed to have last season mayb just match fittness but lets hope he regains that burst of speed. rooney is the key to united so the quicker he returns the better, ronaldo isnt the same player without wayne so lets hope hes back soon, but still would have loved ronaldo to be out there. ohh BTW kaspier was constantly caught in no mans land…his dad would not have been pleased on all counts!

  67. furrball says:

im just frustratingly disappointed not with the team but with how things have gone for us.

we havent exactly done badly we were just clearly missing flair and brilliance out there that cutting edge that something special and in essence rooney and ronnie. in my opinion sir alex must have known of his team’s dependence on players like these hence the recruitment of potential gems like nani in the ronaldo mould and tevez in the rooney mould to groom them for the future.

but who was to know rooney was to be stretchered off and out for the next 3 months and ronaldo was to get sent off in the game after to get a 3 week ban? they’re massive players who’ve been integrated into the united set up that you can never replace from the transfer market i dont believe the united way’s to just go out there get someone stick them in there and let them do just their individual thing. we play as a collective unit and time’s needed for that, unless you are of course henrik larsson or someone of that footballing intelligence.

it’s no use whining and moaning bout the loss of those 2 now but city reading and pompey have all brick walled us and of all 3 it had to be city whom performed the perfect smash and grab. that hurt but let’s move on and draw some positives hargreaves did quite well anchoring nani wasnt far off with his wing play tevez with more composure would have scored so we werent all that bad we really need someone to stamp his authority on the game to grab the game by the scruff of its neck in times like these someone essentially who lifts the team as he plays ala rooney and ronaldo.

back to the brick walling of lesser opponents. we know they’re going to do that now and it’s up to us to break them down now with what we have. no other way around it that’s the united way we fight and trudge on you score one we’ll score two. you wall up we’ll run rings around it and make sure we find a way to knock it down maybe reading pompey and city have gotten away with it but we’ll make sure it’ll never happen again this is the kinda mentality im sure sir alex would be instilling into his team.

we’ve done in 2-0 down in turin to win 3-2 we’ve won the treble in the last 2 minutes of the game or in more recent times we’ve done it last minute at craven cottage at anfield we’ve fought back at goodison to win 4-2 we’ve beaten ac milan 3-2 with a 91st minute rooney goal.

All these within a game itself so what more the 35 that lie ahead of us? yes luck seems to have deserted us and they say champions get points even when they dont play well and as some of you have rightly pointed out there’s nothing at all we can do about that.

but i believe what we can do, what’s in our hands we should and we will go all out in doing it. more crucial than anything right now at times like these is character and manchester united has loads of that.

and with all the chelski comparisons rife, i must say mourinho’s team showed massive character last season yeah we were riding on the waves of success and stunning the league with our attractive football and everything was going swimmingly for us but let’s give credit wher it’s due, chelski were up against it but they never backed down

perhaps its our turn now to step up and show the rest of the league we arent just a band of pansies who crumble at the start of the season and overly depend on 2 star players.

think about it, wouldnt that be the most united way to win the league possible :)

  68. united 4 eva says:

    how about Afonso Alves

  69. nelson otieno says:

why the fuck was anderson not on the bench, he is more experienced than campbell.another question, is fergie afraid to bruise the egos of players like giggs who is underperforming. From the start we all saw how richards was all up on tevez and no one suporting him. is it time to revert to the 442.fuck it and damn it.forget beatiful ball we want results. you see red ranter, every week will sing bout patience while other teams are getting points.damn, we have a negative goal difference for crying out lad. i am really frustrated. i seriously think fergie is somehow starting to lose , which is dangerous. he must do some soul searching or even go to church and pray(all of us). beilive me incase we lose the title next year by a few points we shall always remeber this days

  70. Kienu says:

    FUCK!

  71. Kienu says:

    BORO IS SIGNING ALFONSO ALVES!

  72. WCH says:

Due to work commitments, I didn’t get the chance to rant sooner; but after 24 hours have gone by, I haven’t gotten any less pissed off at yesterdays match!

I was absolutely livid watching the game yesterday, went to bed pissed off and woke up this morning very very pissed off. All I really wanted was for United to score. I kept telling myself that I wanted United to just finish off their truckload of chances. Are our attackers capable of scoring goals? Hell yes. Did they put any of their chances away the past 3 games? HELL NO. (except for Scholes’ goal against Portsmouth, not good enough to win the game) The worst kind of games to watch are those like yesterday’s - where the team that’s way 2nd best wins the match, through a deflected goal! WTF.

Damn it, I had so much more I wanted to say but I’ve just lost my train of thought from being far too pissed. I’ll just have to end by saying that I was only happy with one player yesterday - Owen Hargreaves. Waited to finally see him in action and he didn’t disappoint.

  73. WCH says:

Yeah, and where the hell is Anderson and why the fuck was he not on the bench at least? Scholes and Giggs look subdued these past few matches. Unlike many who are panicking and saying stuff like SAF’s losing it, I don’t share that view. But I do feel it’s pointless playing all this beautiful football (which is fantastic) but not scoring or having strikers who can put those chances away, and besides, EPL teams have figured us out. Domestically, I feel United do much better playing outright 4-4-2 and when we play European games, 4-2-3-1 is great. Boy, we sure could have used Saha yesterday IMO. Saha, get your ass fit!

  74. Kienu says:

saha is unreliable coupled with his attitude problem, ole is getting old….so WTF r we selling rossi and smith? to play dong and frazer campbell now? CRAP!
sign Anelka! or at least loan Pauleta? or andy cole the free agent! or Peter Crouch! hahaha! put one over the Liverfools Scousers!

  75. Grognard says:

    I

  76. Grognard says:

I am relieved to see that many of you, although not all of you agree with me on many of my points. I realize that my win now mentality isn’t necessarily the most popular or the best tactic around. My reasoning is simple. In 1993 United started poorly grabbing two points in their first three matches. They went on to win the EPL. The difference is that todays top competition is so far superior to what Blackburn or Newcastle had to offer back then for top level thrills. Chelsea honestly scare me because they play like a well oiled highly discipline super boredom machine. They rarely lose and even more rarely attempt to entertain their fan base. Mourinho is a believer in the result. Win ugly is fine, just win. Therefore their policy has been to buy qualified superstars who will fit this system. It hasn’t always worked as Ballack and Shevchenko have proven, but, they still succeed most of the time. Experience is the key, not youth. We are not unlike them if we continue to spend 50 to 75 million a season improving our squads. To hate what they do, while copying the strategy is hypocrisy plain and simple. Rather, we should embrace it simply because we can. The aim is not to win every match but to win the Treble, every season. If it isn’t than they need to get a coaching staff and squad of players that believe it is. And if their are fans out there who don’t feel that should be our goal, then they should become overnight Man City fans in order to fulfill their need for mediocrity. Man Utd is built for speed and built for entertaining its followers. Then bloody well do so mates!!! Go out and get a striker who although won’t solve the problem of poor service into the box, might score on more half chances. Huntelaar comes to mind. He should have been first on our want list anyway. I hate the sulker Anelka, but even he right now would be welcome. MAKE IT SO!!!

  77. Kienu says:

SHUD HAVE SIGNED TORRES! OR LUCA TONI? OR JUST LOAN INZAGHI? HAHAHA! SIGN MARTINS!

  78. thehexred says:

Pretty awful start to the season.
Our ineptness upfront is frightening for such an attacking team.
1 possitive is Hargreaves looked like the right stuff. He’ll be
really important in away games against the biggest teams.
Nani looked poor IMO but he’ll get better I’m sure.
Carrick looked like he didn’t know his role with Scholes and
Hargreaves in the centre doing most of the midfield work.
We can’t judge Tevez too harshly he’s really been thrown in at the
    deep end.
Giggs and Brown have continued their poor starts. What the hell was
Vidic doing a)not closing down Geovannis’ shot and b) Turning his
back???!!! Uncharacteristics mistake to be fair.

As for the argument about glory hunting. I don’t think wanting your
team to be successful is glory hunting?! As a club the staff, the
players and the fans demands are high and the pressure to do
well is high. The fans not accepting anything less that success is
large part of what keeps Man U successful. If we all start
accepting that we’ve had our good run and it may be coming to an
for a while what use would that be? I will moan and whine about the
team not doing well, about the manager not doing the right things
to keep the club successful because thats my prerogative as a Man U
fan. Infact it’s my duty. It reminds me of the Roy Keane situation
when he left the Rep. team at the world cup. His mentally was to
win and be successful and he felt others were willing to accept
less than that. Whats the point in that?
If Man U were to come 2nd I’d still be a Man U supporter but I’d be
really disappointed because my mentally is we Man U are capable of
    winning everything.

  79. Kienu says:

    hohohohohohhh……………….sign anelka! the next cantona!

  80. Kienu says:

how abt signing DIego Milito? to partner Tevez in rooney’s absence! superb argie pair!

  81. BootifullGame says:

You all need to chill out. you all sound like part time supporters. So we’ve dropped a few points, its hardly the end of the world. We’ve played some great football, Never really looked like losing any of the three matches, but due to lack of luck and the occassional poor finish, we have struggled to get results. It will come. Who ever said Nani and Tevez were shit needs shooting. Tevez isnt even match fit or up to speed with his team mates, Nani has looked lively and dangerous, he just needs to settle. Give thema chance ffs! Carrick has looked great, so don’t give me that “he doesn’t know what his role is” crap. Hargreaves made possibly the best debut ive ever seen. He was fantastic. The only dissappointment for me is Giggs, unfortunately he has carried on where he left off last year. And by the way, anyone who doesn’t know, Anderson has a hamstring strain and is not quite match fit, which is why he hasn’t played or has not been named on the bench. Why don’t you look into these things before you all start bitching about why he isn’t playing. Get behind your team, if its not too much trouble.

  82. StoneFree says:

Everybody was playing great. Rant but don’t rant like an idiot just because we lost. Everyone played well. The only man not up to the task that night was Alex Ferguson. You guys go about Giggs and Scoles being too old. Then how about the gaffer?

Everyone’s got a role to play that night, and when it’s the old man’s time to play his, he sends in Eagles and Campbell. Campbell went missing immediately after being introduced and Eagles didn’t do enough although he did OK for a newly promoted boy.

I am NOT at all against promoting academy players, In fact I am proud that United has a very good track with that…but you don’t try these sort of things when you have not won anything early in the season and trailing 1 goal behind in your latest game. He should’ve gone for the tried and tested….Fletcher (no matter how much i hate this dude) for example…
