City Is Concerned About Some ‘Idiots’…
… so should we idiot proof Old Trafford, then? Wouldn’t be too easy, I suspect.
Anyway the Guardian reports that members of Man City’s supporters’ club have written a letter to Manchester United to call off the planned one minute silence because they fear that the minute’s silence could be disrupted by some nutty people from the blue half.
I would, for once, hand it to the bitters for showing (what appears to be) genuine concern. There certainly is a cross section of Citeh fans who have memory long enough to remember that one of their own fell victim to the crash. Or maybe it’s just the humanness in them that made them rise above the rivalry.
However I doubt the club would be moved from their plan to maintain a minute’s silence, instead of the minute’s applause that has usually been the case in Premiership games; after all it was under Sir Bobby Charlton’s insistence.
The concern among City fans could also be out of fear of being shown in poor light. After all, a sizable audience will be watching a derby game, and disruption of silence by some crazy fans would only reflect badly on City and their fans. So we must go ahead with our plan of a minute’s silence.
What do you think? Would it be better to have a minute’s applause instead of the minute’s silence?
Meanwhile, United lost 2-3 to Al Hilal in Al Jaber’s testimonial. Yawn! Now that’s 1 million in the purse and a long tiring journey back home. I wasn’t too bothered to even look for a link to the match — as I had said earlier, the trip is entirely meaningless, considering the timing.

Silence… Definately a minutes silence.. Stub out City fans who don’t maintain it and let the City authorities to take action against them…

I also think there should be a minute’s silence. it would be a great mark of respect for the disaster victims.

Although in the end a one minute silence will happen and i’m not against it at all,
I somehow feel that as a player it sort of makes you fell great in the
sense as if you have achieved something . I am neutral on this one.
watever happens lets just remember them greats who died in that crash
for wat they were able to do.Lets hope city fans dont mess it up.

City fans breaking the minutes silence will reflect badly on the club.
But this shouldn’t be the only reason we keep the silence.
A minutes silence is something of a British tradition which indicates a mark of respect in tragedy.
A minutes applause is a European tradition and to me that indicates celebration.
So it is obvious what we should do.
Man City can not blame Man Utd for it’s own fans breaking the silence.
If anybody had any backbone they would film those breaking the silence and put their faces in newspapers and on the local news channels.
This will disgrace them.

I am speechless…

i agree, everyone going to the match, bring ya camcorders.

i personally prefer a minutes applause in most cases however it isnt appropriate in this case as it was a tragedy in which 23 people died so a minutes silence would show more respect. And as for the comments on the city fans, i say wait and see what happens personally i dont think there would be any noise however if there is some then it just show how little the person/people have inside them. oh yes, the twins are with us now arent they, we cant use them for much but atleast they’ll have and extra half-a-year to settle, we will probably start use them in the 09/10 season granted if we dont have an injury crisis next season or 1 or both do exceptionaly well and should be a first-teamer.

it should definitly be a minutes silence. If city fans want to show ignorance when one of the greatest football tragedies ever is remembered then let them. You shouldn’t have to account for such idiocy. There will be footage of the event shown all over the world and if city fans want to tarnish their reputation then thats their choice. It is more important that as united fans we respect the minutes silence and pay our own tributes to those that died. I hope that on the day the lads play their best football and we are all celebrating one of the biggest wins of the season.

Tell me something. Does Ronaldo’s Mam know Fuck all about football? That said, Ronaldo pays attention to his Mam - so I hear anyway.

agents are bad enough. now we have to worry about our best players’ mothers secretly plotting moves away for their sons.
i hope bardsley does well for sunlan i always rated him.

Spurs beating the arsenal 4-0 hehehe, this is good stuff.
January 22nd, 2008 at 22:55
When is Everton Chelsea game?
January 22nd, 2008 at 22:56
Two things: I think United are right to have a minute of silence. If u were at a funeral, you wouldnt applaude, you would be silent. This is different, but not much. I look at it as a minute to be silent and remeber what happend and the tragedy that this is. 1958, R.I.P.
And: Spurs 5-Arsenal 1. HAHA. Fuck off Arse, you cant win anything with THOSE kids!

Missing cup medal is Wenger’s motivation
Sorry Wenger, not this year. Hoping for Spurs vs. Everton!

I think we all have to realise Ronaldo will be leaving in about 3-4 years time…
Enjoy him while you can.
Although i still think he’d be mad to leave United, but i am abit biased aren’t I!

Firstly, Ronaldo’s mom, just because you want to enjoy yourself in the Iberian sun don’t ruin your son’s blossoming career. He is at the best club in the world and with the best manager he could possibly be at this point in his career.
Secondly, HAHAHA on Arse kids, well Adebadabadbor and Bender did quibble like kids, what a show!
Thirdly, Thank You Roy Keane for buying Phil Bardsley. Please buy Saha too, you can have Dong along with him as well if you want to put a complete second-string United XI on the pitch. Ah yes, have you forgotten Fletcher?
Lastly, we were leading 2-1 in Dubai but seemingly gifted the two penalties, one of which was purely to allow Ali Jabber to get his name on the scoresheet. Class! Not long before we would see Manchester United play for Vijay Mallya in Salt Lake Stadium, Calcutta. What are you guys crazy??? All this just for a million quid???
P.S: You may make the best Lasagne, but please, Ronnie’s mom, stay away from his football!

Any club should be able to decide its own way of marking their special occasion. Let the boo-boys show themselves up as being stupid.
It is up to Man City’s moderate/sensible fans to shout down their own shameful fans. Man City seems to be aware that their own reputation is about to be ruined by it. Perhaps they should ban their own fans who show disrespect to the memory of Frank Swift instead of choosing the easy way of avoiding the problem!
This is an aspect of the yob culture in the UK that I truly despise.
January 23rd, 2008 at 9:47
Guys, if it weren’t for Ronaldo’s mom, he would have left last season already. Respect!
There’s no denying that Ronaldo will leave within the next couple of years. Perhaps as soon as this summer if we win the UCL. (SAF might be able to convince him to stay to make history by defending the UCL)
However, after winning the UCL this year, his value will be at its highest. Our American owners will take note of that.
If not now, then definitely when SAF retires.
PS. Our No.7’s don’t seem to see out their careers at United?!?
January 23rd, 2008 at 10:10
Karl, I have respect for everyone’s mom, but showing of your son’s photo to the media with him being morphed into a Real Madrid player in the midst of the on-going transfer specualtion is not something which would endear her to the United fans or even to the manager in that case. Yes, I know that Ronaldo himself has stated that he wants to play for Madrid at some point later in his career, but he has a deal with our club till 2012 if I am not mistaken, and I would certainly like him to be here for atleast another 3 years. Contrary to your belief, I feel that if we were to win the UCL this season, Ronaldo would not leave. Think about it, Ronaldo is steadily attaining Beckham-like status, reminds me of the old fable of the hen which gives a golden egg everyday, surely the Glazers won’t been foolish enough to chop that hen, would they?
It is good to see chaos in the pool camp. Their fans mocked at us while we were being taken over, and wove dreams of paradise when the Gillet-Hicks duo took them over. Nice to see that the honeymoon period has come to an end. Rafa has made a nice joke out of the pool supporters who are like dumb lambs who would simply follow the one ahead of them in the flock. Going by the current situation, pool don’t look like they would finish fourth, the americans would transfer their debts to the clubs books, Rafa would leave in summer to Madrid, and pool will be wiped out in two years solely by the interest of that debt. So much for Stanley Park, ye dippers!!

When someone waves 50 million in your face… and your trying to refinance loans you generally take the 50 i’d imagine
January 24th, 2008 at 11:39
As a neutral I totally support United’s stance on this. Don’t let the minority of mindless idiots dictate to the majority of fair minded people, which we do so often these days. Identify the idiots if there are any and ban them. Its that simple.
January 24th, 2008 at 15:08
ttotade, we just need to be mindful of one little fact as well. SAF don’t like ‘Beckham-like status’ in his football players. At the end of the day, the Glazers will do as he suggest because player marketing is not a priority at United like it is for Real. (SAF don’t mind signing non-photogenic players eg. Rooney, Tevez, Ferdinand, Saha, etc.)

We City fans had to put up with 2 weeks of media attack and Red aggression that we allegedly were going to disrupt the minutes silence. Guilty till proven innocent, gee thanks.
So what happened:
City players and supporters act with dignity and class as we always were going to and observe the silence.
Sven and Alex put down wreaths. AND FERGIE IS CHEWING GUM. How disrepectful. are you gonna take that up with HIM, the same way you attacked us unjustifiably. No class.
You can apologise at any time.
