Confirmed: 5 absentees for Man Utd vs Brighton

Manchester United host Brighton and Hove Albion in our FA Cup quarter-final tie at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

We are coming off the back of a 2-1 midweek loss to Sevilla in the Champions League whilst Chris Hughton’s side have not been in action since their 2-0 loss at Everton last weekend.

Ahead of the match Jose Mourinho has given a team news and injury update and confirmed that we will be without the same five players as we were midweek.

That means Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still unavailable despite being back in first team training for a number of weeks now.  The Portuguese coach did not give any specific update on the striker.

Defenders Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind will all miss this weekend’s game, meaning that Jose has Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof to choose from at centre-back.  Assuming Bailly is fit to play three games in just over a week after only just returning from a lengthy lay-off then he’ll start.  He could be partnered by Victor Lindelof with Chris Smalling’s poor performance midweek.

The final absentee for our FA Cup quarter-final is Ander Herrera.  The Spanish midfielder is currently suffering from a hamstring injury.  Marouane Fellaini made his return to the starting lineup midweek after a recent spell on the sidelines and looked tired before he was replaced on the hour mark.  It would be a big surprise to see the Belgium international start this one.

Jose Mourinho was asked whether any injured players from midweek would be available this weekend.  He told MUTV:

“No, not yet. [The squad is] exactly the same [as Sevilla].”

We are the Saturday evening kickoff in this weekend’s round of games – 19:45 at Old Trafford.
