Confirmed: Man Utd midfielder signs new 4-year deal

20-year-old Scott McTominay has signed a new four-year deal to keep him at Manchester United until 2021, with the option of a further year, the club have today confirmed.

McTominay is a product of the club’s academy and has been with us since the age of just five.

The midfielder made his Premier League debut away to Arsenal towards the end of last season.  He played the final 26 minutes of our 4-1 thrashing of Burton Albion in the EFL Cup last month and then made his first Champions League appearance this past Wednesday in stoppage time at Benfica.

News of the contract was confirmed on our official website with the youngster quoted as saying:

“I have grown up at this great club and it has always been a big part of my life. I attended the club’s development centre in Preston from the age of five and have gone on to progress from there.

“To make my debut at the end of last season was a dream come true, and I would like to thank the manager for the faith that he has shown in me. I was absolutely delighted when the manager promoted me to the first-team squad and I am looking forward to continuing my journey with this fantastic team.”

Scott McTominay is expected to be in the matchday squad for tomorrow’s game at Huddersfield Town due to injuries to Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick.  Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera should continue in the starting lineup with McTominay likely to be among the substitutes.

Jose was happy that the midfielder put pen to paper on a new long-term deal:

“I am delighted Scott has signed a new contract, he is one of our young players that has gone from strength to strength. He made his Premier League debut at the end of last season and made his Champions League debut this season. I had no hesitation in promoting Scott to the first-team squad last month as we have total belief in him.”

We travel to Huddersfield tomorrow two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The Terriers have failed to score in each of their last three league games since a 1-1 draw at home to Leicester City in mid-September, being thrashed 0-4 at home to Tottenham Hotspur and 0-2 at Swansea City in their last two.
