Crunch time for United and Rooney
It’s a shame Liverpool couldn’t do the job last weekend, but United still have a job to do on Sunday and Stoke, unlike the Scousers, aren’t going to lie down and let the champions walk all over them.
Heading into the final weekend of the season, Chelsea are 1.12 (1/8) to win the Premier League, with United’s odds out to 8.8 (8/1).
Only a brave punter would back the Reds at this stage but there’s still a chance United fans will be celebrating on Sunday night. The Reds have won every fixture against Stoke since Tony Pulis’ team returned to the top flight and that’s one of the reasons Sir Alex’s men are as short as 1.14 (1/7) to win the match.
Providing the Reds do sweep aside Stoke, United fans will be well up to date with events at Stamford Bridge. Punters should monitor the Premier League winner market as the afternoon develops because this race might just have one more twist in it. It may be more in hope than expectation that Reds fans cheer Wigan against Chelsea but there’s one glaring reason why the Latics could spoil the party: Wigan have already beaten the Premier League leaders this season.
Carlo Ancelotti suffered the first defeat of his tenure – a 3-1 Hugo Rodallega-inspired humbling – at the DW Stadium back in September. Wigan are 30 (29/1) to finish the season as the first and last team to beat Chelsea, but could it really happen?
The historical precedents aren’t great, with Wigan’s last away win against Chelsea coming in 1980. But while the Latics have lost three of their four Premier League fixtures at Stamford Bridge, the contests have tended to be close. Last season the Blues won 2-1 courtesy of an injury-time goal from Frank Lampard and the year before the game ended 1-1. The draw – which would probably be enough to give United title – is trading at 12 (11/1).

Rooney or Drogba?
A few weeks ago, Rooney looked set to win the top goalscorer award, but the award-winning England forward is now equal with Didier Drogba on 26 goals apiece. Both players are set to play on Sunday and it’s quite likely that both will be scoring on Sunday. Didier Drogba is evens to finish the season as top goalscorer with Wayne Rooney a little bit behind at 11/10.

I pray to god this isn’t true. Why the fuck do they want to keep our club do bad? They obviously can’t afford to sustain our past success, so why do they still want to hold on? The middle east consortium is exactly what I have been praying for. And these asshole turned it down?
If this is true then it’s time for all United fans to step up the boycotts. Buy nothing that has the united logo on it, these assholes need to learn that this club means alot to people around the world.

@Traverse: I hope your right about it just being propaganda, because they would be foolish to turn down 1.5b. A 700m profit ain’t bad for a club you didn’t actually pay for.

@Stephen: That is unfair towards me, i thought we did really well for a team that lost the best player in the world and didn’t at least try to improve the team, and the reason to forget the season is how we threw it away, we could have been in much better position and you know it.

@Traverse: …or a fairy tale to ‘up the ante’!!
Like the Tevez Affair, the truth is cloaked by a lack of transparency from our club.
“Could be”, “may have”, “might do”, “possibly that” – are now the ways we can digest the true facts.
Undeniably, we have greedy owners – and their ultimate motive is to make a massive profit. Wonder what it takes to drive the silver stake through their vampire hearts??

@Stephen: Honestly, mate, you must understand that most of us always want the best for the club.
The flak that SAF is getting, is not unusual for him, nor is it unusual that we discuss, in less than logical terms, how things might get better.
I’m not spoiled, I just want us to win everything, every year!!
And if you’re honest with yourself, so would you.

@Johnsom33: This is nothing more than a typical old school real estate tactic to help drive up the price. Ask yourself one question; Why would anybody who is interested in buying a major brand name team like United want to be secretive? Simple answer is because they don’t really exist other than in the Glazer’s fervent but unimaginative minds. They are hoping to drive the price above 1.5 billion and that is why they came up with transparent and desperate attempt to con the Red Knights group, who unfortunately for the Glazer’s were not born yesterday. I am truly amazed at this lame assed attempt to hike the price up as it is just so amateurish in nature. Look for these losers to sell in the summer because they showed their desperate hand with this silly little con that blew up in their faces.

Apparentely we are lining up Anelka as a Berbatov replacement if he doesn’t agree a new contract with Chelsea. Not my first choice but he has pace and is more clinical than Berbatov and would do better in a team like ours which actually uses pace as opposed to plodding Chelsea.

@colver: Unless berbatov leaves, I really can’t see us buying another striker.
I have high hopes for Macheda and I’m pretty sure Owen is in fergie’s plans. Let’s not forget Diouf and Chicarito too.
That’s 4 strikers waiting in the wings for a sniff a first team football. I wish we had more up and coming young midfielders galore on the bench and in the reserves instead of just Gibson. (As a matter of fact I think we do, but they are still far from making the bench unlike the strikers)

@NicoQB: If Benzema is or becomes available Fergie will be all over him like a cheap suit.
Berba will not leave in the summer, unfortunalty for both parties he needs a move for his own career and we simply need the money he has been a disaster siging unfortunaly and saying, I “hate” Berba is pathetic he simply hasn’t worked out for one reason or another he is a good lad but hasn’t the heart for a United player.

@Johnsom33: good article gives insight to their thinking. They are proud to be the owners and wont give it up. I also think that the part about fans being jealous of City’s sugar daddy has a lot of truth to it. Propaganda? maybe… but i sure wouldn’t hold my breath till they sell.

I had a sick feeling after we won the title at Old Trafford last season, and some fans had the temerity to boo and talk over the manager’s speech, that somehow karma would come back to haunt us.
.
We just won the league title, three times on a trot, 18 times in total, and some bloody fans at our home ground were unhappy. Twenty teams played 38 excruciating matches over a year, and our beloved Man Utd against all odds claimed the title AGAIN, and instead causing a pandemonium in the streets of Manchester, celebrating like lunatics, we stooped to levels unworthy of our history and heritage and ‘booed’ the greatest manager of all time.
Here we are again, by a stint of managerial genius, 1 point behind Chelsea and awaiting a Wigan miracle, however improbable I might add, to clinch an unprecedented 4 titles on the trot. I breathe Man Utd, and as long as there is even a 0.000009% chance of us nicking the title, I’ll still believe. It is our make up as fans on Manchester United to believe until the fat lady sings. If Chelsea do win the title, I will find NO consolation in the HORRENDOUS injuries we have suffered to key players at crucial times this season, ZERO consolation, I will be gutted and I’m ready. Why? I believe the FA has been corrupt and despicable in trying to wrest the title away from us and if Chelsea wins, it would not be as a result of their on-field prowesses but off it.
Someone (I think Stephen) mentioned above that some of us fans have been spoiled by the team’s glorious years of success. I agree, but not all of us. We have to understand that it’s not our divine right to boss the league year in year out. But hey, after all, we ARE fans, and our job description is to be biased.
So, if we do lose the title tomorrow, I hope as fans we learn from the sad feeling that ensues, regroup and support our manager in his quest to build a new team. The good news is rebuilding will be relatively easier this term as we can all see where the ‘dead wood’ in the team lie

@colver: Whattttt??? more clinical? he went threw a patch this year of like 18 games without a goal and that was while dogbreath was missing.
this years stats
anelka 32starts 9goals 7assists
berba 32starts 12goals 4assists
Im not saying there aren’t strikers in world footie that i would prefer, but wanting anelka:roll: we gave him a sniff before he went to chealscum and passed. i see nothing he has done for the rentboys that changes this.

@WhiteY: I’m certainly hoping for the best tomorrow, but, please don’t try to tell me or anybody else how to behave, when it comes to our successes or failures.
The level of disappointment or excitement is an individual thing, mate – and there is no level to which we need to attenuate to!!
Apart from all being on the same side here – and as such, we should support ALL forms of disappointment and glee, this is hardly a forum for social decorum. We are ranting and raving about a footy team, for petes sake. So all of you that feel the need to serve judgment on how others behave in the face of our crunch moment – give it a day or two, and then take a reality check.
And if I’ve pissed on anybody’s altar here, so sorry, and I look forward to you trying to mop it up!!

@gator: The difference between us an Portsmouth supporters is we had the good sense and good taste to hitch our wagon to a winner and not a pathetic excuse for a football club. So our expectations are greater because we are United, not some run of the mill mediocrity like Millwall, Bolton or West Ham. We have expectations and i would dare say they are not unrealistic expectations as this club’s mantra is all about winning everything. So if we have a poor season we all have the right to collectively sulk and cry in our ale as it is a rarity and lets face it, we are spoilt rotten……….AND LOVING IT.

I remember a moment, just less than 2 years ago, when I though our goose was cooked. But there was a team wearing blue, that had an awkward moment, and I turned from manic depressive to raving looney in the space of a couple of minutes.
I love those lunatic moments – lets hope Sunday has another one!!

@Grognard: I would hazard a guess that 99% of Portmouth supporters are from Portsmouth – it’s not just their footy team, it’s their community (and a small one too).
United, and in particular, this blog, is global in its appeal. We are diverse by nature but with one common theme – our team.
It’s not unusual for us to see things differently, but it’s becoming apparent that a minority are seizing their geographical advantage to take a higher road.
I say fuck ‘em!!

@Redrich: When he takes a vacation, boy he really takes a vacation. Right now I see him on this uncharted island having conversations with his volleyball friend Wilson. It’s clear he was fed up with the blog before he went on holidays so it’s anyone’s guess when he will be back. Meanwhile the blog dies a little bit more every day. He didn’t want me to be a poster of threads because he thought I was too controversial and possessor of a hair trigger temper but even I posting every second day is better than this. I fail to see how ignoring the bloody blog is good for it. And no matter where he is, there are internet connections all over the world. I have to say I am a little bit concerned about right now.

@Redrich: If I had a wod of cash to throw on a bet right now I would put it all on Chelsea to win and win big. No way do they lose at home to the Piggly Wiggly. Lets just say I’m not big on miracles even though John Terry slipped on that invisible banana peel in Moscow. What we are asking is for an entire team filled with experienced veterans to lose to a pile of crap team that has been murdered by every good team on the road this season. Not going to happen. Sorry for the bad vibes but I deal in sure things.

@Grognard: Logically, I agree, our chances are closer to zero than any other odds than I could imagine.
But the unimaginable is what we hope for. A miracle, and a turn of luck, a stroke of fortune where the sun shines on the red shirts.
Following a football team is not real life, mate – a fantasy most of the time. A time to regress from the harshness of our everyday strife, and an escape from the odds on reality that drags our beings down!
I say, lets live on the edge now, make up ridiculous predictions, and most importantly, enjoy the possibilities that makes for a few moments of clarity in an, otherwise, dark and confusing world!!

This site is disappointing me at all. RedRanter is raking in all the advertising revenue so if he isn’t prepared to post here himself, he could at least get some people to work for him. As far as I can see we just have David, who writes the occasional article but apart from that seems to have little presence on the site, and he seems to just do the bare minimum in terms of match previews. I would expect not only match previews, but analytical match reports, commentaries on our debt situation, and thoughts about who we should be buying next season.
I would say we have a chance today. A very slim one admittedly. But it is not like Chelsea haven’t drawn or lost at home before.
