Daily Roundup: Rooney-Tevez, Rossi-Pique and Eagles

Tag: Manchester United News @ 10:30 am

Manchester United CrestNot much to talk about today apart from linking you all to news that has become pretty stale by now.

Anyhow, let’s get on with the routine.

Sir Alex Ferguson (our esteemed manager) believes that Tevez and Rooney can work together. I believe, I also wrote a similar article a few weeks ago, but what do I care? Anyway, in case you are interested to sift through archives, here’s the link to that article. In case you still want my opinion on that without caring to click on the link, here it is again: Yes, Tevez can play well alongside Rooney!

SAF dispels rumours and states for certain that he wouldn’t be sending Pique and Rossi out on loan. His idea is that the promising lads will be given no more that one season out on loan, tops. Well I don’t mind that if they are given a fair run in the side when they return. Otherwise they’d be better off farmed out to a team that can guarantee more playing time.

It looks increasingly likely that Giggs will be given yet another year’s extension to his contract. That’s great news and just reward for his hard work, versatility and the value of his experience. Although, sadly, I guess that will be his last extension.

The Daily Mail runs a very good interview of SAF. It is a must read. There are plenty of interesting things you note. Especially his thought on having so many options in attack, Tevez and Rooney, Arsenal, Mourinho, Liverpool, Torres and the list goes on endlessly. He seems very relaxed going by the way he spoke freely with the questions put to him. I don’t want to quote from it because I could pick plenty of them. So once again, go ahead and read it.

Finally, the Republik of Mancunia blog, a very good Man Utd blog, I assure you – although the guy isn’t too prolific – has a post on Chris Eagles. It is a good read and I thought I must share it with you guys too. I do plan to write on some of the more promising youth players who will be expected to feature next season and Eagles is one of them. He was eye catching even during the Asian tour with his spectacular chip in the game against Shenzhen. His playing style wouldn’t be instantly eye catching, but he produces moments that would make one sit up and take notice.

Anyway go read that post, and I’ll see you later.

  • yh bit of the sme old red ranter aint it but have to correct you, as this site does a whole lot of correcting !! eagles wonderful goal was NOT a chip you could have described it as a blast even a half volley but no way was it a chip i wonder even if you could name the asist frm tht goal ???

  • The assist on Eagles goal came from Dong Fhanzou,
probably better known to you as Dng Fhnz.

  • It was certainly a chip! A pretty quick one too but still a chip. Wish we could see some fish with that too…

  • Anthony Payne

Given that Scholes is not going to be fit to start the season
and that Hargreaves also has knee problems, who do you think
will start the season in midfield?

@Anthony,I believe Owen Hargreaves will have fully healed by 12th
August when we play Reading. My worry is who will play against
Chelsea in Charity Shield. Given that Mourinho will play first
team against us, we also need a strong team especially in the midfield
where I think without Scholes and Carrick it will be miserable.

  • Anthony and Hiram, you should not be
worried about scholes absence, I rem
we domolished Roma in his absence.
Utd is not a onemans guitar team, we
got that depth in fletch, anderson,
    carrick, oshea et.al..

  • I think he should put giggs into the centre and play nani/anderson on the left. Though i think he’ll play flech or JOS, hopefully Hargreaves is fit.

  • Fletcher can fit the midfield role. He’s been playing quite well in the last 10 matches or so. Good progress i must say…not like the Richardson guy.

If we can put Hargreaves, even better. ;)

Rumors saying SAF might go for Anelka? PLEASEEEE NOOOOOO. Might as well get the Italian striker!

  • I think the team for the community shield will be (excluding defense cause it is a bit obvious) giggs on the left with nani coming on for him at half time carrick and hargreaves in the centre with possibly eagles on the right and rooney and upfront, i also hope anderson will feature in that game. Fingers crossed we get tevez b4 the transfer window gets shut and cant wait to see anderson play. nani lookin good, ronaldo wow best player in the world, apparently he had a bet wiv SAF if he doesnt score 20 goals this season he will shave his hair off! rooney playing good in pre-season. It is a matter of how many we can score and keeping a clean sheet (regarding tomorrow’s game with the chineese team) ill go for around 5 or 6 but i think we might give the young ones a few minutes on the pitch, dong is going to defo start so we might not get as many goals not that dong is crap or anything!!!

  • Keith Moses Kaira II

If Smith is sold and Saha injured and the Tevez mess yet to be sorted, I see Anderson partnering Rooney upfront in the community shield

  • I think we will play 3 in the middle of midfield against Chelsea, much like the FA cup final. Carrick – Fletcher – Hargreaves(if fit) If not either O’Shea or Eagles. That will leave Giggs, Rooney, Ronaldo as the front 3. I’d be very suprised if Fergie threw Nani + Anderson in the firing line against Chelsea. I’d like to see Rossi feature also.
