Deadline Day Looms…
We lost the Super Cup to Zenit. Chelsea proved they are still shit by dropping points. Liverpool drew to Villa, sussing out early season optimism and, more importantly, both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are extremely doubtful for our Anfield visit.
We have no news on Berbatov, yet. Either way we’ll get to know it today. Hopefully let the good times roll as we get into a two week period of boredom — also called the international break.
Meanwhile, I apologise for not writing up my thoughts on the Super Cup. Or generally not updating this for the last couple of days. Kudos to the folks to keep commenting despite my negligence — trust me this is only temporary. It turns out that I do have a life outside of writing about United, which is what caused me to be off the blog during the weekend.
So, in the words of Arnie, I’ll be back. Hopefully, by then, Berbatov will be wearing the red of United.

Bloody hell Robinho at Man City. Add Jo and Elano to the mix and you have samba fever.
And WE HAVE BERBATOV. OK 30 million is way too much but as Tottenham wanted 35 million we at least weren’t held to ransom. I’m delighted Campbell went the other way. He has a better chance of getting games there and if he can gel with Tottenham’s impressive team then he will have a good chance of stepping up to play for us in the future.
And Fergie once again got his man!
Roll on Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov the best forward line by far in the entire world

BBC story on signing and quotes:
“Joining United is a dream come true for me – I look forward to playing my part in helping this club win more honours,” he told the club website.
Old Trafford manager Sir Alex Ferguson added: “This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football.
“His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I’m sure he will be a popular player with the fans.”

*Scene at OT yesterday around 11pm*
Peter Kenyon and his goons come to meet Fergie and gloat about their expected Robinho signing.*
PK: Haha, City have hijacked your bid, while we have almost completed the Robinho deal. We’re even selling his Tshirts. You guys are so screwed!
AF: Oh really, I think you must be a little bit misinformed. You see, we have almost completed the signing of Berba, while I hear City have bid for your Robinho.
PK: Yeah right! Fat chance of that happening…You’re out of your mind. Keep Dreaming!
AF: Dreaming? *Whistles a tune*
Berbatov walks in from the side door and smiles at Kenyon. At the same time, Kenyon’s phone rings and it’s Scolari who blasts away saying that Real have already sold Robinho to City.
PK: (face aghast) No..No..No! This cannot be happening…This is madness!
AF: Madness…Madness?? This is BERRBBBAAAAAA!!! (and lands one heavy foot on Kenyon, sending the weasel crashing out)

30.75 mil + Frazier Campbell on loan, jeez we’re still over-paying imo. We are being screwed by them again. oh well, at least we got Berba, was hoping it would be Huntelaar or Benzema.

Seeing as though we’ve paid (probably) over the odds for Berba anyways. I cant help but think we should have just got on with this a month ago and had him ready, bedded in with the team, for the new season. That way, considering the player shortages we had at the beginning and players not being 100%, we might be 6 points from 6 and a UEFA Super Cup in the bag. It all seems a bit retarded, all the cat & mouse games going on, trying to lower the price, trying to make Spurs part with him at all and chasing off any other suiters, then paying the full whack (maybe even more) at the end of the day anyway. It seems much time and the opportunity to make a perfect start to the season has been wasted.
Though maybe it took a sluggish start to the season to convince the powers that be to part with the cash. Still, as a fan, its fustrating.
*shrugs*

YYEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
Just the news I wanted to wake up to! Couldnt sleep last night, I was so excited. My parents made me go to bed just 10 minutes before Berba had officially joined. But, we have our new nr.9 and that is what counts right now. I CANT WAIT!
For all the feelings I went through yesterday, it was worth it cause WE HAVE BERBATOV!!! People say we have paid too much, but when you understand that Schevchenko cost £30 million, then Berba is a sneep!
WELCOME TO MANCHESTER UNITED, DIMITAR BERBATOV!!!

@RedDevil: The point is some of us think if we were going to pay the odds, we could have done it weeks/months ago when they stated Berba is going for 30mil. It’s like wasting time, but certainly dramatic. lol

Groggy would have loved this! But I guess we are better this way, he would have lowered the expectations and said: “Guys, we are screwed. There is no way we are getting Berbatov now, City think they are Chelsea all of a sudden! Berbatov is not worth £30 mill, and I know United wont bid that. Then again, theres always Campbell and Manucho.”
I am better this way, more exitement and heart-stopping nerve! Yesterday was crazy, hopefully a day like yesterday will happen again. I want to re-live an experience like that. Next time I will be sure to have two computers when this happens.

Berba facts on Manutd.com, Part 1:
“Dimitar Berbatov is a classy and complete centre-forward, pairing the ability to ruthlessly and regularly find the net inside the box with the aptitude to create moments of sheer magic outside it.
Sir Alex likes players with plenty of charisma in the way they play, and the Bulgarian’s languid style is instantly recognisable on the field. It’s also an approach that has drawn comparisons with former United talisman Eric Cantona. Like the captivating Frenchman, Berbatov loves to entertain with the ball at his feet. United fans are in for a real treat with the Bulgarian in a United shirt in attack alongside Wayne Rooney, Carlos
Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo et al.
Berbatov started out at Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia. He joined The Armymen aged 17, following in the footsteps of his father, Ivan, who also played for the club. After making his debut aged 18 in the 1998/99 campaign, he went on to score 14 goals in 27 league matches the following season.
His talent quickly attracted attention from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, who made their move for the Bulgarian front man in January 2001 after an impressive start to the season for CSKA.”

Berba facts from Manutd.com, part 2:
“Berbatov – national team captain and Bulgarian Player of the Year in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2007 – made a slow start to his time in Germany, but he regularly shone in the Champions League, scoring a spectacular solo goal against Lyon and also finding the net against Liverpool (already he’s in favour).
The only blot on his copybook is that he was part of the Leverkusen team that knocked United out of the Champions League semi finals in April 2002. He came on as a substitute in the final as the Germans lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in Glasgow.
Berbatov was eventually lured to the Premier League when Tottenham signed him in July 2006 for a reported £10.9million fee. He was an instant hit at
White Hart Lane, scoring his first competitive goal two minutes into his home Premier League debut against Sheffield United. He went on to score 23 goals in his opening season, which he matched again in 2007/08, a campaign which saw him voted Fans’ Player of the Year.
However, after months of speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2008, Sir Alex Ferguson finally got his man on transfer deadline day with just minutes to go. Berbatov signed a four-year contract on 1 September 2008 for an undisclosed fee, with Fraizer Campbell heading to White Hart Lane on a season-long loan as part of the deal.”
