Dear Ben Foster

Tag: Manchester United News @ 8:24 am

You said a few things today. Let me quote them for you, and then respond.

“The fans are obviously passionate about the club but sometimes they need to focus on supporting the club a bit more than getting carried away with the technicalities of who’s in charge.

On the green and gold campaign: “Yes, it’s a bit of a distraction when the fans are doing the chants at every game and things like that,”

Ben, Ben, Ben,
1) The Glazers being in charge of the club isn’t a minor ‘technicality’. It’s the whole frakking point! There hasn’t been such an uproar in the history of the club over ownership. [Not even when the club became a Plc.] Fans, by and large, are forgiving of the owners if they invest money into the club without siphoning it off to service their own debts.

2) As for the green and gold campaign and anti-Glazer chants, those weren’t really the reason why we didn’t win more than a Carling Cup medal. Your former boss, SAF, went on record saying that the green and gold campaign was good for the atmosphere.

You clearly don’t get it. So be a good boy; go do your job for Birmingham, and leave us fans to decide how we go about supporting our club.

Regards,
- RR

  • @Stephen: Some men are just good coaches and do not make great managers. CQ was a truly great coach who had everyone’s respect. As a manager he is missing some of the key components that are integral to that job. Hard to argue with his success at OT but yes, as a manager, he is pants.

  • @Red Ranter: I totally agree. Maradona has lost the plot but still, he is allowed to get away with his BS. Argentina did completely humiliate Canada yesterday however. People need to Youtube Di Maria’s goal to see what we missed out on. A tremendous strike that had both power and finesse all over it. Aguero also scored a great goal. My God how my country sucks at the great game. Despite Maradona it was boys vs men yesterday and a complete no contest.

I honestly find it hard to understand how Argentina can win it all without Riquelme, Cambiaso, Zanetti and even Milito? If they crash Maradona will go from god to clown in one foul swoop in his native land.

  • @despicable: Actually mate, for most of that period Aguero has also been in his doghouse and sitting on the bench. He tends to go with Messi, Tevez and Di Maria up front in a 4-3-3. He also uses Higuain more but Aguero has struggle to get back in his good graces over some personal issues they have regarding Maradona’s daughter who is of course Aguero’s wife.

  • @Stephen: McClaren may not be a genius but he did go to Holland this year and take a little known minnow and win the league title with them. So impressive that it was even considered more of a triumph than when Louis van Gall took AZ Alkmaar to the title last year. The Eriedivisie may not be the Prem but it’s still impressive when an outsider can come in and win it all with a minnow. And now he has left and been hired buy last year’s German champs Wolfsburg. Don’t be too surprised if that club isn’t threatening Munich for the title in 10/11. I think he deserves more credit and respect than he gets. Managing an international team is an entirely different kettle of fish and is not a proper job to assess his abilities as a manager. And finally, lets also not forget that he did a pretty decent job with one of England’s minnows in Middlesbrough. They even made it to the UEFA Cup final now didn’t they?

  • @Grognard: I completely agree with that assessment of McClaren. Genius he is not, but being the manager of England is usually a thankless job. At least he was brave enough to venture outside his comfort zone. Not many English managers have done that.

Roy Hodgson learned his trade by journeying around Europe, and it shows with his stint in Fulham. I hope McClaren does well with Wolfsburg. It will surely be a test, as Bundesliga is of a higher standard.

He screwed up as England manager because he started to believe his own hype and pandered to the press. I think that experience was chastening for him, and the relative low profile of the Eredivisie has done wonders for him.

  • @Grognard: I totally agree personally I feel McCarlen has done a very good job where he has been obviously not with England.
What annoys me is the gerneral hero worshipping CQ gets, he has left us twice and lools so far to have failed twice, again depending on the World Cup but things do not look good. So he leaves us for jobs, fails and we take him back??? Not for me if he ever came back he would want it in the proviso he gets Fergies job when he goes, this would be a disater. Some fans feel all our success was down to him while he at our club, we did and have won a few pots before and after him.
Was it he who found Ronaldo, I seem to remember Ronaldo played in a friendly at OT and the defenders were raving about him to Fergie, also if he did well he also found Anderson, Poosebon and Manucho and Nani has only showed of late the consistancy to his game which his talent promised. For me Fergie needs a good number two, still but there are more fish in the sea than CQ.

  • @Stephen: I think CQ is a good #2 man. Anybody who is dim enough to give him the credit for our victories when he was around needs to get their head examined. What about the 20 other years without him around. I think Fergie did pretty good without him, don’t you think? Even though he is presently in my doghouse, Fergie is the only reason why we have been as great as we have been. He has the magic potion or recipe and as I like to say at times like this about him, “Often imitated but never duplicated”.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Grognard: I think our recipe is missing a couple of key ingredients!!

Looks like we might settle for chopped liver when Foie Gras might have been called for.

All quiet on the transfer front!!

  • The inevitable has happened, and now the purest of all the pure sports will be subject to a salary cap.

I’ve never seen this as a good step, and have no reason to see it as such now!
It’s a desperate attempt to level the playing field after all else has failed.
Bolton will be happy, but the legions of fans that support our club will have years ahead to say sayonara to our well paid players.

  • @Redrich: We don’t have to worry at the moment, because it’s well known that our ratio of earnings and wages is well within their stipulation. It’s the buying of players that we’re not accomplishing. The likes of City and Chelsea should be worried because they don’t make that much money yet pay disproportionately high wages.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Red Ranter: I did see the initial stipulations and I agree, we are better off than some. However this is probably the first step in a long line of cap measures – and ones, that if universally adopted, we be welcomed with open arms by every club’s ownership and administration.

The end result is that we won’t be watching a number of very good teams – just a whole bunch of mediocre ones!

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Redrich: The ingredients missing are money and a manager with a backbone.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Redrich: This would be a good step if the teams in Spain were also treated the same way but as they have UEFA and FIFA in their back pockets, they can continue to borrow 200 million every year to buy players and hold a debt for a year or two. If I was Manchester United I woukld tell UEFA to go fuck themselves and their Champions League and the rest of the big clubs in England should doo the same. Lets see UEFA’s knees buckle when Europe Cups are fought for without the quality of British teams in the competition. The competition will lose it’s world wide popularity and will be considered tainted because of the lack of the four top British sides. It’s time for the big clubs to show their might and marketing power and tell UEFA to go fuck themselves.

The problem however with that ploy is that so many players today sign with big clubs in order to play in the Champions League. But still, England has to take a stand against this socialist BS.

  • @Redrich: Sports leagues these days are obsessed with a thing called parity. Except of course Spain who seem to think their two team league is just fine and dandy.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Red Ranter: I would like these stipulations, i want people to concentrate on developing youth and making this game back to what it was, i hate the concept of buying success, hope people start looking football as game rather than business…

  • @Redrich: It’s not a salary cap. It’s that teams aren’t allowed to spend more money than they make. This isn’t a Premiership directive, it’s UEFA, and will count for Madrid too. Teams that don’t comply will not be given a European Licence, and thus cannot play in the Champs League.

If it weren’t for those fucking Glazers we’d be best placed to take advantage, as we make more money than anyone else in Europe a year, but we come out at a loss due to loan repayments and bullshit. Having a party when Glazer dies.

  • @despicable: well said mate. However the drive to win should never be taken away from the game. Club football is not just a game but business as well. You can’t separate both of them. Its like that everywhere. Its not the Olympic games. So much is invested into it and as a result so much is expected. On a national level, you can look at it as a game but not at club level. Never!!!

  • What does everyone think about Dzeko as a striker I reckon he’d be a good signing for us

It also looks as if we might miss out on silva and it looks increasingly likely that were going to sign van der vaart?- Not sure if he is the answer to our creative problems

  • @Grognard: I think the new directive will be applicable for all the leagues under UEFA Umbrella. Secondly as far as I know its not about how much you borrow its about whether you are able to serve those debts without incurring losses or resorting to owner’s private money or not. Mark my word this will help team like chelsea and Man Shitty as the owners are allowed to brought in money in form of Equity or Capital invested such as youth development etc. So the people like Roman or Sheikh will bring in money in these form if required by taking the advantage of this loophole in directive….

  • @ROOOOONEY: Well one thing is for sure chicarito our little pea knows how to to get over the ball and head downwards into the net – unlike Berba who always gets underneath and lobs it more times than not over the bar. He does find space in the box seemingly, and with better crossing and end product into the box Chica would have got one against England in the Wembley game.

  • @Johnsom33: Well naturally according to the media (I didn’t watch the game either only the highlights) Chicarito suffered from the poor lack of creativity of the Mexican players. However the one time they did get the ball to him in the box he scored. He reminds me a bit of Mickey Owen as he finds space in the box, but until he is playing with a much higher class of player it is impossible to say mate. The verdict is still out, but he looks a bit tasty at times!
