Derby Day. Raging Ferg. Welbeck.
Tomorrow we invite our friends from the council house to our humble home, and I will surely write a preview post tomorrow. But apart from it being a derby and, of course, an opportunity to pick three points to close the gap with Arsenal, the game will assume greater significance for a non-footballing reason.
It is our first home game since the 50th Anniversary of the Munich disaster and our efforts to mark the occasion with a one minute silence may come under threat due to some City fans disrupting the said minute’s silence.
While it would be perfect if the minute’s silence takes place smoothly, one would realise that it doesn’t take too much effort to cause trouble — which is why, Sven Goran Eriksson has urged City fans to show restraint. Paul Scholes, meanwhile, thinks it’s time the City fans grew up a bit and just ’shut up’.
* * *
Meanwhile SAF was pretty annoyed with the Premier league’s plans to move abroad. I have written about it here.
And Danny Welbeck could be given the chance to make his debut, as Rooney is suspended, and Saha… well I wouldn’t complete that statement.
I have written a very short roundup of the day, but I have written a longer article today about the Premier League’s plans for global domination. So head over here and read it.

with the internationals in the week, its hard to predict what team will be played on sunday.
o’shea should slot into left-back.
if you look on the website it says we’re going to abandon are modern squad numbers, with United’s 16-man squad set to don numbers 1 through 16 on Sunday after gaining special dispensation from the Premier League.
so brown theoretically could be wearing no.2, and welbeck could theoretically be wearing number 9. i to agree with scholes about the city fans, i mean there not even are main rivials!!

All week ive been wondering about welbeck getting a place on the bench.but fergie says a fucking start?this is good news.
February 9th, 2008 at 10:47
I dontthink Welbeck willstart, but he might be on the bench. I think this wil be the team:
1-VDS
2-Brown
3-Oshea
4-Hargreaves
5-Rio
6-Vida
7-Ronaldo
8-Scholes
9-Anderson
10-Tevez
11-Giggs
subs:
12-PIG
13-Simpson
14-Fletcher
15-Nani
16-Carrick

nope, its on the website that welbeck will definitely be involved tomorow and he could start. i.e if he’s not starting he’s on the bench. if andy starts tomorow, he’ll get 10.
February 9th, 2008 at 11:27
so, who is bringing the camcorder to the derby, just incase we need to name and shame the city fans who break the silence.
February 9th, 2008 at 12:07
Why would Anderson get nr 10?
February 9th, 2008 at 12:36
thats the playmaker number, thats his favoured number, thats the number saf gave him on the pre-season games. tevez is more likly to get number 9 as he’s a striker.
February 9th, 2008 at 12:47
I think Fergie will leave welbeck on the bench and bring him on in the second half if we are losing.
February 9th, 2008 at 13:12
I think hel start
February 9th, 2008 at 13:17
Thanks Dan, I didnt know that. I thought that the number 10 was the goalscorers/strikers number.
BTW, this is the derby kit: http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid={B4CEE8FA-9A47-47BC-B069-3F7A2F35DB70}&newsid=529770
February 9th, 2008 at 13:46
yep i took a look at it earlier, really it is the same kit last season with out the sponsorship, i was wondering, shouldnt the city kit be without the club crest, because it has it.
February 9th, 2008 at 14:48
thank fuck the boy welbecks obv shown enuf in trainin to make fergie think he shud go in ahead of giggs! much better option up top. Real excited now….

This is to the people that hasnt seen Welbeck play:
Plus:
1.He is fast.
2.Good header.
3.Got great skills
4.Tall.
5.A good finisher.
Negatives:
1.He is inexperienced.
2.He is not very calm when 1-on-1.
3.Not a good left foot.
He is a great player and I hope he gets his debut against City tomorrow. But as long as United win, I will be happy!
February 9th, 2008 at 18:56
Red devil, danny welbeck does have a good left foot.he has actually scored a number of crackers with his left.
February 9th, 2008 at 19:08
im hoping for a 4-0 win tommorow. ronaldo in the first 10 minutes, followed by andy in 20-30 minutes, welbeck on 68 minutes with ronaldo again in the last five minutes.
February 9th, 2008 at 19:17
tbh, welbeck WILL play becaus if you think about it, why bring him if he wasn’t going to play? we coulda/woulda brought heaton or cathcart, or eagles but i dont know where he is.
February 9th, 2008 at 21:52
I hope ur right Dan! And Taehr, what Ive seen from Dannys left foot has not impressed me, but you might know more about him. Im hoping for a 4-0 or 5-0 win to really make our goal difference bigger, and get ourselves into the goalscoring form that could kill Arsenal next week. Anderson, Ronaldo, Scholes and Tevez to score. Welbeck will get his debut tomorrow and I hope he scores, but I dont think he will. Hope he does though!
February 9th, 2008 at 22:11
looking forward to welbecks debut, i think he is the reason why fegie stayed away from the market of strikers, he would have gotten one asap if he saw a need for one
February 9th, 2008 at 22:19
Reddevil and dan,u guys are that confident?I think wel win, but four fuckin nil?Lets hope anderson plays cause if you want a thrashing he would have to play. Not hargreaves tmr please.
February 9th, 2008 at 22:58
I know that Andy has to play if it is going to be a hammering, and if he doesnt I dont see us winning more than 2-0.
February 9th, 2008 at 23:32
Saha out Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in. What do you guys think?
February 10th, 2008 at 2:12
I really doubt that Welbeck will get the chance from the start. It would be big risk for us. On the other hand, he could get a chance if we are 2 goals up with 15 minutes till the end. in my opinion, Ronaldo will be the second striker, while Fletcher or Nani could get the chance in his position. This will be hard battle in the midfield and we really need to win this one.
February 10th, 2008 at 3:30
Will someone please post a site to watch the game. Thanks
February 10th, 2008 at 3:40
No chance SAF will play Wellbeck from the start…
He will remember what happened when he handed Evra his first start on Derby day a few seasons back.
February 10th, 2008 at 3:42
Don’t get me wrong i seen some good moves from him on MUTV and rekon he will be a ripping player… but he will not start derby day….
February 10th, 2008 at 9:04
I think it would be really fitting if Danny Welbeck does play on the day we remember the Busby Babes tradegy. It’s what They represented.
February 10th, 2008 at 9:09
thats my point, thats what the busby babes where all about so it would be fitting, saf said he’ll be involved 2day and he said possibly from the start.
February 10th, 2008 at 9:24
welbeck ahead of giggs, nani ahead of giggs.clearly now we cant think of a place that can revive the guys career.i know its an emotional day,but it should not overshadow the aim of playing the best team.ryan to come on when we are winning, ditto scholes.my team.
