Discussion: What Do We Do With Heinze?

Tag: DiscussionsRed Ranter @ 10:00

Today we start a new section at Red Rants. It is in an effort to make it a little more interactive. I know our comment threads are robust enough and will continue to be so. But, starting from today, from time to time we will feature posts that just puts forward some questions to which we ourselves don’t have very clear answers to. (It wouldn’t be a regular feature but we’ll probably put them up when we feel like there’s something worth discussing about.) So we’d put them up for you to discuss. So what is different here? We have these topics to be discussed in our forums where, we create a specific thread for the topic in question.

For regular readers of Soccerlens this would be a familiar routine. Others, it’s not rocket science so read on, for today’s topic:
(For those who prefer the comments thread on RR, don’t worry, it’s only the Discussion posts for which we recommend using the forum.)

What Do We Do With Heinze?

So now that he’s lost his appeal, surely people might be expecting us to flog him to the next interested club - so long as it is not Liverpool.

So do we wait for a good offer and freeze him in our reserves? Is his situation completely beyond repair? (I know I will get obvious answers to that question, but is there a chance Fergie can convince him?) I believe SAF still rates him as a player.

His inclusion at LB could push Evra forward at LM, thus giving us more penetration forward and better defensive protection at the back. Honestly, I found Evra to be far more threatening on the left wing than Nani. Only if he could be more consistent throughout the match.

Anyhow, what do you guys think? Discuss away at our forum thread created for this purpose.

We haven’t closed the comment for this post, but we trust you would discuss this over there. If you find any other topics worth discussing it, go ahead, create them on our forum by clicking here or on the forum link at the top of the page.

Update: If Goal.com is to be believed, reports from the Argentine press seems to point towards Madrid having signed Heinze. So is it clear that Real Madrid is now the official retirement home of ex-Man United players?

I think we should let him fester in the reserves. Show him the same contempt as he has shown us!

  2. Martin S. says:

Even though he’s our best left back I would like him to leave for Real Madrid. His loyalty isn’t with us and we don’t need players who aren’t going the United way.

Heinze’s one of the top 15 left/cb defenders in the world and has plenty of experience so we should get a good fee for him. We need the #14 shirt for our new striker. ;)

gabby said “I am tired about rumours linking me with France, Italy and Spain.

“I have never spoken with clubs in these countries because in my head the only option is Liverpool.

but there has been reports of him with west ham but that a big step back for him. so his career is all over the place no place at united cant go to liverpool doesn’t want to go abroad so the only way is down for him so we get a bit of justice then guys

  4. Ben says:

Yep. Stick him in the reserves then make him sit on the bench next time we go to Anfield.

  5. gubby says:

Festering in the reserves is not an option.
If we can get £7M for him, take it. He is also probably costing around £50,000 a week in wages.
Next year he will be over 30 and worth a lot less.
If he is not interested in playing for us, get rid.
If Liverpool want to give us £7m for a player who because of injury is a shadow of what he used to be then snatch their hand off I say.

  6. vishnu says:

that c*** should’nt be allowed inside old trafford again……goodbye heinze…and for all ur bad mouth for the past two months good riddance

  7. bond says:

Give that guy a bit of respect !! he is still goood !!!
you cant play evra wen u play physcally away from home smebdy like fulham at cravven cottae!!!!he s

  8. WCH says:

Well, though i agree with you Red Ranter that having him play LB and Evra play left wing makes our defence stronger and attack more potent (maybe), I think we should get rid of Heinze. No point keeping a player who doesn’t want to be a United player. Goodbye and good riddance to him. I still don’t understand why he wants to leave United so badly. Could it be that he is a champ now and feels he ‘needs a new challenge’? Though I’ve always doubted his commitment to the club from the start…

  9. Elton says:

he’s always given a 100% when he’s played for us, we all could see it, even when he wasn’t fully fit which makes what he has said all the harder to take.
he’s not stupid either, he surely knows how much we hate the dippers but maybe rafa has guaranteed him a starting spot and being from argentina he might never truly understand the history between the teams. I stick by my guns to let him rot in the reserves, whatever happens though, fergie will make these last days a living hell for him.

  10. JB says:

Elton, there is no purpose having him at the club. Even in the reserves there is a very real danger that he would act as a cancer within the club. As much fun as it would be to see him stuck with the kids for a year the only choice in my eyes is to find someone to take him, even if its only for a few million.

  11. Ben says:

It’s official, then. He’s off to Real http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid=%7BB4CEE8FA%2D9A47%2D47BC%2DB069%2D3F7A2F35DB70%7D&newsid=465412
£8M is the rumour. Good deal all round - just hope we don’t meet them in the C’s league!

  12. Grognard says:

    WCH

The reason Heinze wanted to leave so badly is because he is proud and has a large ego. He is the starting left back for Argentina for crying out loud. In his eyes that is tantamount to being a starter on any other club in the world. Rafa was full of it offering a starting position. Rafa’s idea of starter means playing 15 EPL games a season with his ridiculous rotation policy. Despite CL success, Rafa is an idiot who has no clue how to win a marathon. The FA Cup is a sprint, the CL the 400 meters, and the EPL the marathon. To win the marathon, you need a good bench but you need to take advantage of your player’s superiority in skills much more. He just doesn’t get it.

  13. Just1n says:

So Heinze is going to Madrid. Good for him. Now lets petition Fergie to get rid of Silvestre.

  14. Martin S. says:

Which players should we replace Heinze and Silvestre with? :)

  15. Just1n says:

    There is only one …..Lahm.!!!

  16. WCH says:

Grognard - Yeah it’s a shame isn’t it? He lost his place fair and square to Evra IMO, as his insistence on playing for his national team when he could have nursed his niggling injury (which i can understand due to his pride in honoring his national call-ups & he is a warrior for club and country), coupled with Evra’s superb form last season and even this season; have led to the loss of his starting berth. Shame though, that he can’t see this and lacks vision when it comes to viewing our marathon of a season where he could easily be the starter for half the games we play at least, and be a bench player the other half. No one player can play ALL the games in such a long season in 4 competitions.

  17. BootifullGame says:

No matter how much better Heinze is at left back than Evra is, we simply don’t want or need players that don’t want to be here. Yes, Heinze has always given 100% but his heart is clearly not in it so there is absolutely no sense in keeping him. If the reports are true and we got 10mil Euros from Real for him, then thats great business. Keep Evra at left back, let him learn his job properly, its great having a left back that can attack well but its even better if he can defend properly. Leave left wing to Nani, or whoever. Evra will be fine at left back, he might be a tad sloppy/rash at times, but usually his blistering pace allows him to recover.

  18. karl says:

I hope the sale of Heinze will get the Spanish title for Madrid again. That way we will win the Premier again (according to recent statistics) :-)
