Falcao gamble will pay off

1415902879394_wps_23_MANCHESTER_ENGLAND_OCTOBEColombia manager Jose Pekerman has said that Radamel Falcao will soon return to form and show the Premier League what he’s made of, insisting the United striker was always going to need time to adjust to a new style of football.

Having missed games against West Brom, Manchester City and Crystal Palace, the Colombian is likely to sit out United’s trip to the Emirates after the international break, prompting many to question whether the former Atletico Madrid striker will ever return to full fitness.

United’s decision to sign Falcao on a season-long loan was seen as a gamble, given the serious knee injury the Colombian suffered towards the end of last season and, so far at least, it hasn’t paid off. Pekerman, however, believes it’s only a matter of time until Colombia’s number 9 returns to his best.

“This is a new stage for him and for the (Manchester United) team, needing time to adapt to numerous signings, playing in a new competition (like the Premier League),” Pekerman told a news conference ahead of Colombia’s friendly against the USA in London on Friday night.

“Falcao is a top player, I’m optimistic he will overcome this stage and soon be at his level.”

The 28-year-old has played five games since joining United, scoring once and providing three assists and spending a total of 251 minutes on the pitch, though he’s never played the full 90 minutes.
