The biggest difference as I see it is that in North America their are so many top level sports to choose from and enjoy and thus, the fans suffer from a little attention deficit disorder. They generally don't follow just one sport exclusively for the whole year. In summer it is baseball and golf, fall it is American football and winter is devoted to hockey and basketball. The UK does have cricket and rugby but my experience has been that not that many footy fans follow those other sports. Golf and tennis is for the individualists. On the European continent footy rules and their are no other distractions. Therefore footy fans in Europe as well as South America have tunnel vision and go overboard for their one chosen sport. On that basis, you are correct that our passions for a given sport don't rule our lives solely. Although I have met many Canadians that have hockey on the brain 24/7 all year round. My wish has always been to live in Europe and support either Man U or my other favorite Bayern Munich. AHHH! We can always dream. Red Ranter
