Manchester United have been linked to a number of players since the close of the summer transfer window back in August. Now that the winter transfer August has been open for a week we are widely expected to make a few deals this month.
We have been linked to several wingers over the course of the season, with Chelsea’s Willian being strongly linked to the club having not been a regular under Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
However, it is Paris Saint-Germain’s right forward Lucas Moura whom we have been strongly linked with over the past week or so, and it appears a deal could very well be on the cards if Jose Mourinho wants to bring Sir Alex Ferguson’s former target to Old Trafford.
Lucas previously rejected to join Manchester United in 2013 and opted for a £38 million move to Paris Saint-Germain instead. However, he has played just 72 minutes of Ligue 1 action across five substitute appearances under Unai Emery this season and did not appear at all in the Champions League group stage.
The signings of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria in recent seasons have seen the 25-year-old fall down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes.
Now reports in France are suggesting that the right winger wants to join Manchester United, rejecting several other offers from the likes of Nice, Bordeaux, Nantes and Real Betis in hope he can push through a move to Old Trafford.
The report is coming from French outlet Telefoot who also report that the runaway French league leaders have only stuck a £40 million asking price on the Brazilian international. In today’s market that is not much at all.
Lucas Moura has netted 45 goals in more than 200 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain during his five years at the club, winning the top flight on four occasions and the French Cup three times.
Given that Jose Mourinho has not found a solution on the right wing, where the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard have all failed, and where Juan Mata currently plays the majority of games, despite the boss seemingly not being a big fan of the Spaniard, we’re certainly expected to bring in a new right winger at least before the start of next season.
Lucas Moura is excellent at dribbling, loves to take on defenders, and both scores and creates goals – he’d be excellent for us down the right wing. Given that he’s only in his mid-20s and has proven himself in the Champions League, Mourinho should not think twice about making a £40 million offer, if the report from Telefoot is accurate.
