In defence of Louis Saha
In the last month I was reading all these comments about why should Saha leave, how he is injury prone and why we need a new striker. I am not going to argue whether we need a new striker or not, but I am going to argue in regards of the qualities of Saha and why I think that he is a great player and he shouldn’t be sold.
First of all I know that injuries were a huge problem for him and I was mad, sad and disappointed many times like many of you when I was hearing time after time that he is injured and he can’t play, but I would like to point your short memory to the beginning of the season.
While Rooney was struggling with his form it was Saha that would come up with great plays and rescue us over and over again. His record for the whole season is 13 goals and 7 assists from which 12 goals and 6 assists came before the New Year. I know after that his form wasn’t great, but almost all the time he was injured. So as you can see he was really good, when he was available and injuries should not be the deciding factor in letting the player go.
Any player can be injured for a long time. The best examples are Henry, Van Persie, Robben should they be sold too? I know that it is wrong and I hope that SAF would see it the same way.
Secondly I believe that Saha brings something special to our team, which is his ability to create goals from nothing even against the strongest oppositions. Rooney and Ronaldo are our best players and the main reason for our success, however against strong defenders they tend to get lost and that’s when Saha’s talent becomes important.
In any way this is just my opinion and I really hope that Saha will be in our team next year and this time without injuries (hopefully the surgery in USA will help). Please leave any comments or suggestions.
P.S. BTW I just watched Real become champion, which means 2 mil. pounds for ManUtd

But we cannot keep on waiting for Saha forever. We have to move on. The central striker’s position is very key for a club that wants to regain its position at the very top of the World. We need a player who will net in more than 30 goals per season and who can withstand long periods of injury free play. Saha is always up and down with injuries. We cannot wait for him, I am sorry. We must go for a lethal finisher now, not next year. I am sorry but these are my opinions…

I know what youy mean about the striker position being vital, BUT that doesnt mean Saha should be sold. Saha is clearly a more suitable striker than both Alan Smith and Ole (because of his aged legs) so I reckon it’d be more wise to get rid of Smith whilst we can still get 5-7 million for him and use that money to get a striker with good pace and ball control. By doing this we have a more potent group of strikers and we can keep Saha who is a top 10 striker in the Prem (and if his fitness doesnt imporve then SAF might have no option but to sell).

I’d like to disagree with Gakembu, SAHA is a great player and he showed that when he was fit. Rem. the goal against Benfica, BBurn and Chelsea, what more do u need from a player. This is a guy who scored 8 lig goals in 8 different games. Any player can get injured, look at RVD, OWEN, RONALDO(fat boy), during his time at Inter. When he came back from injury, he destroyed us at Old trafford with a hat-trick. SAHA deserves a place in utd, he is class and should stay.

Lets be clear, when fit Louis Saha is as good a striker as most in the Premiership. I don’t remember too many people wanting to sell him when he scored vital goals for us away in Benfica or at home to Chelsea. The guy is special. He is also a team player. Yes, he has had a wretched time of injuries but we have shown we have the squad to cope with that. And our squad will be enhanced with the younger Rossi. Saha has years of experience in the Premiership and is ideally suited to the formation that Fergie and Quieroz have used more recently. The only guy I would accept as being good enough to allow Saha to leave is Berbatov.

Saha doesn’t need defending. Saha is a liability to our starting team when injured. and asset when fit. Next season he will only stay as back up to the striker we bring in. For he is to unreliable to be first choice. If he doesn’t like the idea he will be sold. It’s that simple. .

Let’s remember this about Saha. Before he took over, Man U was a static, boring team. His emergence as a force coincided with Man U’s flowing, dynamic attack style, the one that impressed everyone at the start of the season, and carried Man U to the league title. Now, even after Saha was out of the line-up, that style of play was still seen in the squad. If he is to be replaced, he must be replaced by someone else who can play this style, as opposed to a Ruud-style striker. But I’d stick with the guy, see if he can get healthy and contribute. He’s not yet an old man by football standards, so there is surely a chance he will rebound. And part of me truly believes that if Saha (and/or Vidic) had remained healthy, Man U would have won the Champions League.

I agree with you David Staples about how Sahas involvement helped change the way United play, Ruud was a penalty box striker, thats all. Arguably the best in the world at it too. But like you say that didnt lend itself to a particularly exciting flowing style of football that we have today. I wouldn’t go as far as to say United were boring with Ruud in the side. I could never find watching a world class striker (and team) boring. They were less flexible but still played some great football. Theres no doubt that Ronaldo’s rich vein of form has helped too, as have many other factors, Scholes return to former glory, Carricks arrival and the defensive solidity of Rio and Vidic, VDS, I think its wrong too atribute this seasons success simply on Ruuds departure and Saha’s explosive start to the season. After all it wasn’t Saha who carried us to the title, as you put it, because Saha had a sick note for the most important stage of the season, the run in. It was player like Rooney, Ronaldo, Scholes, Ole, Smith and even Fletcher(!) that carried us over the line. Saha’s been good for us, but there are other, more reliable strikers who could de the same job, i think.

BootifullGame is right. Saha should only be kept as back up. not as a first choice player

Keith Moses Kaira II if we keep saha as a back up striker where would that leave rossi then? I’m sure he won’t want to be on the bench the whole season, and if he does I think i would be likely he would leave, and that wouldn’t be good, he will become a great striker. I also think Saha should be allowed to stay, he is definitely good enough to play for us and Rossi should be a good enough back up striker when Saha undoubtedly gets injured, or the other way round, with Saha as a back up to Rossi, as we all want to see how goood he really is, right? One way or the other, Rossi or Saha will leave after a season of being on the bench I think…

When SAF sold them he made conditions that if Real won La Liga or CL then they would have to pay extra. I think 500,000 was for Ruud being Spains top scorer

We will get 1 mil form Beckham’s deal (for winning the La liga) and 1 mil from Ruud’s deal (500K for being the top scorer and 500K for winning the La Liga)

Conor, Fergie likes to have four strikers to rotate.
Right now we have Rooney, Smith, Saha, Rossi. Im not including Ole in their because its questionable how involved he will be this season.
So, assuming we sell one of Smith or Saha, then Fergie is gonna be looking for another striker. Regardles of who that is, Rossi will have to accept his place in the squad. If you listen to what Rossi has said, he would be more than happy to do that if it meant he will get a chance to prove himself at OT, so either way, Rossi is going to be part of a four man striker team. So he is going to spend time on the bench, fact. I dont think he will waltz straight into being first choice, if he stays he will be a squad player. Being at United next year is his priority, not starting every week.

So you think if he plays 10 games, he would be happy?
