Injury Update | ‘Lion’ Tevez Speaks | So Does Carrick

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 9:46

Some injury news today. Call it good or bad, Mikael Silvestre, who was earlier ruled out for the entire season, could now make a comeback as early as March next year. Fergie says that his operation went well in France and things aren’t as bad as it was thought to be.

Meanwhile skipper, Gary Neville would still take longer to get back into action. Credit should be given to Wes Brown who, despite certain sections of fans thinking him to be poor, has been a very good cover for the captain.

In other injury news, it looks likely that Owen Hargreaves would return for the League Cup game in midweek against Coventry City. He’s had quite a bit of a worry settling into life at OT due to the injuries, although none of that were a deterrent as far as his performances would go, whenever he played. He is a top player without doubt. It just remains to be seen how SAF would decide to play him in the league after an excellent performance by Michael Carrick against Chelsea. While Hargreaves’ performances so far makes it difficult to drop him, when fit, Carrick’s response has made things a little tricky for SAF. I highly doubt he would go with three in the midfield against Birmingham next week, so would he drop Scholes? We shall see.

Carlos Tevez seemed confident while reflecting on the Chelsea game.

“Chelsea pushed the violence to the absolute limit and there could have been other red cards during the match, but justice prevailed in the end and we deserved to win. Our game is totally superior to Chelsea’s this season and the scoreline was actually short of what we deserved. I have seen the problems at Chelsea with the change of coach, but this season they have just not developed the rhythm of the other years. Chelsea were very nervous and it was impossible that we were going to lose the match.”

It’s good to see the confidence in the lad. The Rooney-Tevez combination, while not being particularly electric, did show enough promise to become very deadly in time. We hope there is more to come from our latest Argentinian star. Sir Alex was also impressed with his performance calling him ‘brave as a lion and tough as nails’. Interesting comparison!

Michael Carrick was excited about our defence this season. He thinks that our ‘defence could be our best form of attack’. While I don’t like the sound of what that statement means, in the sense that I don’t want our team to be built on defending alone, I do get what he is essentially driving at — our solidity in defence means we don’t have appear to hang by a thread with a solitary goal advantage. The solidity in defence means it gives our team a lift if we are a goal up, safe in the knowledge that it would be very difficult for the opposition to score, and have the opposite effect on the opposition.

Nevertheless, I would like more goals to be scored.

And finally, tomorrow is the League Cup game against Coventry. I should be out with a preview before the game. I am guessing the team will have an experimental line-up.

Until then.

The Arsenal are the second richest
club in the world?!?How the hell did
that happen.Someone please tell me how
    they suddenly overtook us especially
after we been to semis and final of UCL
and Fa Cup respectively. On top of
that we won the league and we have a
    bigger stadium so how?!?

  3. Shaheen Seedat says:

@ Ishaw - its very simple really - the interest is killing us + emirates helped fund the purchase of the new ground + expansion to the Emirates from Highbury

  4. Shyam says:

Manchester united is yet to announce its profit and turnover for the same period of time. Everyone is sure that that will overtake Arsenal’s figures. But Arsenal board is happy because they became the richest club in London surpassing “already sucked up” Chelski!!!!

  5. dan un-official liaison says:

nah, with carrick he has 1 good performance in every 5 games, with hargreaves its 4 or 5 excellent performances every 6 games, with carrick its like 1 in 20 games for him to have an excellent game.

  6. Liam O'Kelly says:

Dan - Carrick was very consistant last season, just have faith in him

I know Gary Neville is our captain and better with than without him but Wes has done a great job while Gary has been side lined. The defence has done its job well this season with clean sheets and Wes Brown seems to get better with each match he plays, I think it would be harsh if he had to make way for Gary once he is match fit. What do do reckon RR

  8. Grognard says:

I am reading numerous articles about United finally considering making a move for Huntelaar. If so I am absolutely elated. This bloke is a fantastic natural striker and a goal poacher supreme. He is also lethal in the air which is a dimension we have lacked for years.

On a sour note I am also reading that Ronaldinho has agreed to terms with Chelski on a contract totaling 58MIL. Now if he can persuade Barca it looks like Roman the Russian Money Bags is out to buy his way back into the good graces of Chelski fans. Wait until he finds out that Ronaldinho left his best years and (A)game back in Barcelona.

As for Average Grant, not having a coaching license, this doesn’t bother Chelsea one bit. Apparently he has twelve weeks to get one. From what I read, both Hiddink and Van Bastens contracts are up for renewal before that deadline. Grant was never more than a caretaker and he knew it too. His appointment was just to calm the storm and rudder the ship until the NEXT ONE shows up. Personally I think the EPL has reverted to the glory days where United only had Arsenal to worry about. Sorry Scousers but Benitez will rotate your squad into third or fourth. Once again Wengers Gooners are the side to beat.

  9. Conor says:

Grognard firstly I find it highly unlikely that we will be buying Huntelaar before next summer, and I also doubt that we will ever get him until Fergie leaves, as he’s trying to build a team without any ‘Goal Poachers’ in the team, and plus he’s trying to make rooney into a regular goal scorer by playing him further up top, so theres no need to get caught up in speculation, and to thell you the truth, I don’t think he’s start ahead of any of our strikers.
Also: “On a sour note I am also reading that Ronaldinho has agreed to terms with Chelski on a contract totaling 58MIL”
Why is that “on a sour note”,their wasting money on a player who although is still very good, he could end up damaging Chelsea’s team spirit, possibly worse than it already is, and where would he play? It would be the same situation as when Shevchenko and Balack came…plus, it’s probably not even true.

  10. Shyam says:

Ronaldinho to Chelsea is interesting!! He will add spice and creativity to the game. But he def need a striker or a striking midfielder in the same wavelength as his to start being dangerous. To an extent lampard or drogba fits the bill..But I think Drogba plays for himself in front of goal and is not an Eto’o or Messi who always have an extra eye for a teammate to pass. Lampard is too lazy to cover up for Ronaldinho as Deco or Xavi does and i dont even know if they can play together in the midfield. I am a big fan of the brazilian and he will be an asset but i hope he also will be wasted in Chelsea’s crowd of players. Why i hate Chelsea and Roman is that they wasted careers of so many footballers who would have been world beaters.
Robben was being tracked by ManU when he was bought by Chelsea and look where he is now looking for a starting place in RM. The list goes on Shevy,Ballack,Wright Phillips…I pray that Ronaldinho doesnt come to Chelsea because he is one footballer i love to watch on the field not on the bench.

  11. Grognard says:

Conor; In regards to Huntelaar, I believe if Fergie does buy him it will be for next season. And I’m sorry but Huntelaar is much better than Saha and not as brittle. He would allow Rooney to play his more comfortable role of second striker like when he did while teaming up with RVN a few years back. And the possible sale of Ronaldinho to Chelsea is a sour note because he will be playing against us in the EPL. I think his best is in the past but I do believe he could only help Chelski become a better attacking side. It’s more fear from respect than anything else.

Ronaldinho coming to Chelski is a prime directive from Roman Money Bags. Trust me when I say that whoever is managing that club when Ronaldinho arrives, will be ordered to start him and his time on the bench will be very little unless injured. From what I am reading Money Bags is going to break the bank to retool the team with players he feels will blend well into an attack oriented side. The Mourinho Blues will be a memory in a year or two as very few of the players will remain.

  12. Shannon Moss says:

“Some injury news today. Call it good or bad, Mikael Silvestre, who was earlier ruled out for the entire season, could now make a comeback as early as March next year”.

Let’s support our players yeah! I don’t think Silvestre has much to offer really anymore however i still have enough respect to not bag him. The guy has been a really good servant to the club since joining from Inter Milan.

  13. Conor says:

Ok, ‘Much better than Saha’, you can’t compare them, Saha’s a pretty unique striker, there aren’t many other players who are fast, can hold the play up, can get involved in the build up and can head the ball, fact.
“And more comfortable role of second striker like when he did while teaming up with RVN a few years back” it was supposed to be his more comfortable role, but for a good bit of the season he played further up and he had his best season in front of goal.
Look if all your going to base your opinion on is lies in the media then that’s fine, but then you should also believe when they say that apparently Ronaldinho missed his last match for Barca because he was out partying the night before , and apparently its not the first time either, and if he moves to London its quite a possibility he’ll be wanting to check out the clubs there, and seriously…where would he play? And plus, John Terry said before that if Ronaldinho comes he’ll have to be doiing at least a little tracking back, and Ronaldinho doesn’t track back. So either the rest of the team will feel its unfair that he has to do less work than everyoneelse or he’ll be forced to work more than he used to, either way in the end it could possibly ruin Chelsea.

  14. Hiram Gakembu says:

Drop Scholes? Never! SAF will never drop Scholes in favour of any other midfielder this season. So it is up to Carrick and Owen Hargreaves to fight it out for the remaining one slot in the midfield. In hard games SAF can have all the three in a 4-3-3 formation. But I can assure you, barring injuries and suspensions, Scholes will always be a part of the starting line up….
