It’s Holiday Time at Old Trafford
Welcome back. Hopefully most of you might be able to read this now that the site is fully functional. As mentioned yesterday, we went through a bit of house cleaning — house moving, rather — as we shifted servers and made changes to the backend.
While we planned an overhaul of the visible part, we decided that can wait. However, we will hope to add some more features that’s visible to you to make the commenting experience better and more expressive.
Some of you might have noted the smileys now visible so that you just have to click it rather than having to remember the key combinations. You’ll also see against a commenter, an arrow symbol like this:
which, if you click, would create a reply to in the comment form. So you don’t have to type the user’s name you are responding to.
We also have a “Share this” icon at the bottom of the main post so that you can easily share the post with your friends via email, or AIM, or Facebook or tons of other means of social media.
We hope to gradually add other enhancements as and when we feel it’s worth the effort.
Moving on, there’s very little happening on the United front. And I’m afraid, very little is going to happen at least on the Ronaldo front for the next couple of weeks. Yes folks, it’s holiday time at Old Trafford: Fergie’s off digging his ear in the South of France; Gill is off to somewhere, perhaps fishing and examining gills of fish; and Ronaldo, well what do we say of him — he’s off to his holiday, perhaps in Madrid? We won’t know. Oh, weren’t we supposed to know by erm… yesterday? Maybe he did say something but we weren’t alert enough. He could have even announced it in his shower. Blame the News of the World for not bugging his house and not coming out with any ‘exclusives’.
Meanwhile there is the usual from the Mirror (Ron to avoid Fergie meeting) and Calderon saying Real won’t pay silly money for Ronaldo — weeks after saying no price is too high for Ronaldo. One tends to not care anymore.
So whilst everyone is enjoying the warmth of the summer away from Manchester, I think it’s time we go cranky with more idle speculation. So today’s flavour, and one that’s doing the rounds — surprisingly low profile these days — is Dimitar Berbatov to United. MEN reckon he’s odds on to go to United (no evidence whatsoever); something to do with Villa moving to Spurs. But honestly, with Gill and Fergie out on vacation I certainly don’t want Gary Neville to show Dimi his way around Old Trafford. Nor do I want him to handle transfer negotiations in their place. If he can scare away a 17 year old, then he may not have much luck with someone known to throw a hissy fit at the drop of a hat.

thank God its Sir Alex and not you who is the manager at utd! Sorry but you wildly underestimate Tevez and overestimate the likes of Huntelaar and Podolski!!! Hunter is not even rated by his own manager for his country and what has Podolski done at Bayern for last 2 years?
Anyway lets agree to disagree. But I would say that if SAF didnt rate Tevez so highly the club would not have gone into that incredible messy situation with his transfer last year. He is here to stay for years whatever his price may be!!!

Look Jos, I never claimed to no more than Fergie and basically insulting my logic because I don’t agree with you is not kosher. So what if disagree with you. What makes you think you are right? Hiding behind the coattails of Fergie is not something I particularly respect. I stand up for my beliefs and my player evaluations because I watch these players a lot and because I feel I am an informed source on certain leagues and because I don’t feel like my knowledge of the game is wanting. So by all means, disagree with me but don’t belittle my knowledge or taste just because it isn’t popular or something you disagree with. Your thank God it’s Sir Alex comment is nothing more than a low blow. Go back and see if I resort to those kind of statements. I basically disagree with people. Although I amount perfect, I try not to insult them with snide little remarks. Especially when they are major contributors and people who it is obvious know something about the game. Like Fergie has never made a bad buy in his career. Tevez is not a bad buy but he is still not worth the money being asked for him. Tevez is not everybody’s cup of tea. DEAL WITH IT!

Just1n; I never said that I don’t rate tevez. You guys rate him a 10 I rate him a 7.5. He’s a very good player. I just think that there are better players available for that kind of money that’s all. If he could come in around 15 to 17 million I’d have no problem signing him. So don’t assume that just because I don’t think he’s worth Benzema or Huntelaar money that he’s not a good player. I do rate him.

“Watch the player and you will see a supremely skilled and gifted striker who can score incredible goals from distance, half, chances, with both feet, acrobatically, in the air or just with poachers goal scoring instinct.”
Well, we had this type of player for many years, and he almost always featured as a sub (OLE).
It is not that I condemn Huntelaar. In fact, I admit he is an exceptional talent as a poacher. Unfortunately, not the type of player that I believe SAF want as a first-teamer. That is why he let Ruud go and was in no hurry to replace him. Should we get Huntelaar, then I’m pretty sure he will be used as supersub like OLE.
What would be ideal is a player that has all those qualities, and still performs as part of the build-up. (Here’s hoping Berbs live up to the hype – even though I am a bit sceptical about his finnishing as compared to Huntelaar).
Tevez brings more than just work-rate to the team, but I believe his work-rate alone is worth every penny of £20m.

Personally, I belive Tevez is a much better striker than Adebayor (who only started featuring this year for Arsenal). Adebayor is going for £25m.
