Quite how we can justify spending that much on a player, who although promising, is completely unproven, I will never understand. I doubt Chiellini will be available for much less than 20 million. Scotjimland, i was not undermining Rooney's importance to the team. I was just agreeing with owen, that Rooney still has to step it up a bit in the really big games when we need him to perform most. Once he manages that he will be regarded amongst the top five players in the world. But I have confidence. After all Ronaldo a few years ago was criticised for bottling big games. But the last two seasons he stepped it up a notch and dominated huge European games. I have confidence that played in his proper position Rooney will learn to do the same thing.
