Jose confident of landing £45m target

Jose Mourinho is still yet to settle on a left-back, now in his second season at Manchester United.

The Portuguese coach has used Daley Blind, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian in this position during his 45 Premier League games in charge.

Blind, Darmian and Young have started at left-back already this season whilst Luke Shaw returned from his long-term injury to play 45 minutes versus Burton Albion in the EFL Cup last month.

However, it appears that Mourinho’s first-choice left-back isn’t currently at the club.  Over the summer we were strongly linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose but nothing materialised.

Rose has been demanding a wage rise at Spurs but it has not been fulfilled by chairman Daniel Levy.  The England international has yet to play this season due to knee ligament damage picked up in January.  He is due to return to training this week.

In Rose’s absence, Ben Davies has been performing well at left-back for the North London club.

The Daily Star are now reporting that Jose is confident in signing Danny Rose in a £45 million deal prior to the 2018 World Cup in the summer.

A Daily Star source has been quoted as saying:

“The lure of United is too strong for him and if he had the choice he would pick United hands down.”

Danny Rose would offer pace and width bombing forward from left-back and at 27 years old is a younger option than Ashley Young, whom himself isn’t a natural defender.  I don’t see Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian lasting at the club much longer.

The Tottenham player improved greatly defensively from the start of the 2015-16 season and made the Premier League Team of the Year at the end of that season too.
