Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur at their temporary home of Wembley Stadium in our FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.
Both teams were in action midweek with Spurs drawing 1-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday and us winning 2-0 at Bournemouth 24 hours later.
Jose Mourinho largely rotated his squad for the trip to the Vitality Stadium which included Matteo Darmian, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw and Marouane Fellaini all starting, whilst Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku were both used as substitutes.
Prior to the game the boss had said Wednesday’s team had a chance to earn themselves a place in Saturday’s starting lineup. There were good performances from Paul Pogba, Chris Smalling and Jones that may well have earned them another opportunity to play at Wembley.
Speaking after the game, Jose was able to confirm two players who will be facing Tottenham on Saturday. He confirmed that both captain Antonio Valencia and Nemanja Matic were rested midweek with the FA Cup in mind. He told MUTV:
“Obviously I am going to change the team, I am not going to repeat this team. I gave a rest to [Nemanja] Matic, I gave a rest to Antonio Valencia, with the objective of at least having a couple of players fresh. But all of the players told me they are here and they want [to play].”
Sergio Romero is currently sidelined so David de Gea is almost-certain to start, whilst both Alexis Sanchez and Lukaku (28-minute appearance as a substitute at Bournemouth) were both rested, suggesting they will start at Wembley Stadium too.
