Manchester United travel to Southampton for our first 3pm Saturday kickoff of the 2017-18 Premier League season.
We have taken 13 points from a possible 15 but it was our last away game that we dropped points; a 2-2 draw at Stoke City.
Southampton have taken eight points from their first five games despite failing to score in three of those.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to St Mary’s, Jose Mourinho has ruled out Luke Shaw from facing his former club.
The England international made his return from a near-five month absence on Wednesday in our 4-1 thrashing of Burton Albion in the EFL Cu. Luke Shaw played the whole of the second half.
However, the £30+ million arrival from Southampton in 2014 will not be in the squad for Saturday’s match. Mourinho told MUTV:
“He has to work, just that. You saw the game [against Burton], you saw the same as I see. Are you asking me if he plays tomorrow? No, he’s not playing tomorrow. He has to work, he has to improve.
“He hasn’t played for six months. If he doesn’t play for six months, I don’t expect him to arrive on Wednesday and be the Man of the Match and to be running up and down for 45 minutes. It’s just a process, he doesn’t play for a long, long time.
“You have other players in the Premier League that are not starting matches in this moment and their managers say they’re not in the best condition. We’re speaking about some of the best players in the Premier League. Luke had surgery and a long time without playing football. I cannot expect him to be back and strong in his work.”
Ashley Young started at left-back in our 4-0 demolition of Everton in the Premier League last weekend, whilst Daley Blind has played the majority of games for us in this position so far this season.
Luke Shaw has played in only 32 of a possible 119 Premier League games for Manchester United following his arrival, for one reason or another.
