Jose gives update on Anthony Martial transfer

Anthony Martial has been strongly linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer.

The French international has started only half of our 34 Premier League matches this season as he faces competition from both Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford down the left wing and rarely gets an opportunity to play up front.

Reports last month even suggested that Martial had been in talks with Italian giants Juventus previously.  It is the current Serie A league leaders who continue to be strongly linked with the 22-year-old.

According to the Sunday Times this morning, Jose Mourinho would not get in the way of the forward leaving Old Trafford this summer if he so desires.

Many feel that the Portuguese coach is not capable of getting the best out of Martial and given the amount of competition we have in attack it’s understandable why many feel the French international’s career has stalled over the past two seasons.

Despite not getting start after start at Manchester United this season, Anthony Martial’s numbers are still impressive.  He has nine goals and five assists in the Premier League and one goal and two assists in eight Champions League appearances (4 starts).

Louis van Gaal signed Anthony Martial from AS Monaco back in 2015 in a deal that could be worth up to £58 million.  Given how expensive players have been over the past 12 months we could expect to make a profit on the youngster should we decide to sell over the summer.
