Jose Mourinho pays compliment to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea

Chelsea let slip of a 1-0 lead at Old Trafford to lose 2-1 to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard’s goals in either half move us back into second place in the Premier League and open up a six-point lead over Chelsea in fifth.

There has been a verbal war over the past few months between the two managers – Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The bad blood didn’t spill onto the pitch as there were no arguments or clashes between the two during the match and both managers shook hands after the game.

Speaking after the victory on Sunday, Jose paid compliments to Chelsea, saying that they are a ‘fantastic team’ and that we beat a ‘very good team’.  Mourinho told MUTV:

“I think we beat a fantastic team. For some reason, they were the champions last season. For some reason, they played the way they did against Barcelona. For some reason, they started the game so well as they started here. We beat a very good team and to beat a very good team, you need to be organised but you also need to have a humble spirit where everybody works, everybody fights, everybody tries to follow a game plan. I repeat, we beat a very good team.”

Jose won’t have been pleased with the opening goal we conceded to Willian on the counter-attack.  The Brazilian was gifted plenty of space to pick up Eden Hazard’s through ball despite three of our players being between the two Chelsea players.  David de Gea will also be disappointed to have allowed the Brazilian’s shot go through him.  However, to come from behind to win is pleasing.

After three games in just over a week we are not in action for more than a week’s time as our next game is at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday 5 March at Selhurst Park.
