Jose wants Man Utd to go out of their way to sign this left-back

Manchester United are expected to sign a new left-back this summer.

Ashley Young made the position his own last season despite being a winger by nature.  The England international also turns 33 next month.

This doesn’t say much for the likes of Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo who Young displaced in the starting lineup for the majority of the previous campaign.

Italian international Matteo Darmain was another option on the left side of our defence but was rarely used by Jose Mourinho and is looking likely to join Juventus this summer anyway.

We have signed Diogo Dalot already this summer.  The 19-year-old made his first six professional appearances for FC Porto in the left-back role in 2017-18 but is a right-back by nature.

A number of left-backs have also been linked to us already this summer, including Danny Rose, Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam and Philipp Max.

The latest left-back to be linked with a move to Manchester United is Barcelona’s Jordi Alba, with Spanish outlet Don Balon reporting that Jose Mourinho is ‘willing to do anything’ to sign the 29-year-old this summer.  So keen is the boss that he has told the United hierarchy to ‘do everything possible’ to make sure the Spanish international signs this summer.

Why Jordi Alba would leave the La Liga champions for us is questionable, so perhaps this story could simply be propaganda to get the full-back a new contract at Camp Nou.  Though we at Red Rants certainly wouldn’t mind his name on our books.
