Man City star ties former-Man Utd player for Premier League Record

Manchester City eventually overcame Premier League newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion with a 2-0 win in their season opener this evening.

It wasn’t until the 70th minute that Pep Guardiola’s multi-million squad finally broke down a tired home defence, with Sergio Aguero firing home shortly after Dale Stephens had easily conceded possession for the hosts.  A Lewis Dunk own goal five minutes later ensured City were coming away from the seaside with all three points.

In the process, Gabriel Jesus has tied a Premier League record that he now shares with former-Manchester United midfielder Simon Davies.

The Brazilian has now played in 11 Premier League matches and has yet to lose a single one.

Simon Davies was part of our squad in the inaugural 1992-93 season and didn’t leave until 1997, when he joined Luton Town.  He was part of the Class of ’92, winning the FA Youth Cup in 1992 alongside the likes of David Beckham, Gary Neville and Nicky Butt.

During those six years at Old Trafford, Davies only made 11 Premier League appearances (4 starts), winning seven and drawing the other four.  He also scored in our 4-0 thrashing of Galatasaray in the 1994-95 Champions League.

Of course, there are 37 games left this season for Jesus to suffer defeat for Manchester City and hand the record back over to Davies!
