Man Utd 5-2 Spurs: Were you watching, Merseyside?

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 11:20

There are some sporting moments that are for the ages. Moments that, years down the line, one would sit under a chestnut tree and recount with glee; a glint in the eye will betray the nostalgia that, quite obviously, has overcome the storyteller.

Yesterday was one such moment.

As a matter of fact, we’ve had a rather strange season this year. We’ve had an impervious defence, which got replaced by a conference side defence, in addition to occasionally being awesome offensively, and then being completely impotent.

In addition to that up and down road, we’ve had at least two games where we got out of jail in by coming from two goals down. Both these games will, unmistakably, take us two years back to 2007 at Goodison Park. 2009’s version of that Everton game would be the 3-2 against Villa, and the 5-2 against Spurs yesterday.

We haven’t sealed the title yet. But we are digging ourselves out of holes (self-imposed ones, arguably) in games which are bound to be tricky. We still have the Manchester derby, a trip to Riverside, and a home game vs Arsenal that are all tricky fixtures. But one would hope the lift this win gives the team could plausibly take the team through City and Boro unscathed. If we do manage to not drop points until the Arsenal game, then a win over Hull in the last game of the season should see us through the season, assuming Liverpool don’t drop any points.

But what makes this game quite encouraging is the will shown by the players following the break to make something out of this. One always felt we needed a goal for us to gain the momentum, but that came courtesy of a major talking point of the match. Howard Webb’s penalty was a point of concern for Spurs fans, the press and, presumably, Liverpool fans to. The common line trotted out, almost disturbingly in unison, was it was an appalling decision by Howard Webb, and there was no way in the world that it was a penalty. Scott made a compelling argument about it and I am in agreement with it.

From video evidence it is at best inconclusive over whether Gomes got fingers to it or Carrick kicked it away; actually from the replay it was quite clear that Carrick kicked it away from Gomes, but until one has the benefit of an ultra slow motion camera that doesn’t cause blurring of the screen or missing frames, it is impossible to say, without a shadow of a doubt, that it was quite obviously not a penalty. Notice the emphasis added to the phrase ‘quite obviously’. No, it was not painfully obvious even in action replays. So in full speed, the fairest thing to say was this could go either way. The press prattling about it endlessly on how United benefited from an appalling decision is unfortunate, and mildly disturbing.

The other important game changer was Tevez’s substitution at half time. It had to be done. Nani, who hasn’t found favour with Fergie this season, was the sacrificial lamb; it was unfortunate for the Portuguese winger, who was actually quite decent; his delivery on occasion was inch perfect and begged to be headed. But a change had to be made and Fergie decided it had to be, shall we say, his least preferred son who’d go out.

Tevez’s burst onto the half and the rest was a blitz which now seems like a blur. But more than words, I think it’s worth watching this video analysis from MotD (Match of the Day) that accurately describes the contribution of the big four. Watch this first, if you haven’t already:

Video 1 from Dummy Account on Vimeo.

Now this may be rather premature but, from the looks of it, Ferguson may have stumbled upon United’s most potent and dynamic formation, given the current squad. On paper, it looks a no brainer: Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo and Berbatov playing together as a front four would be a Football Manager gamer’s wet dream. But doubts were cast from the very beginning on them working together as a quartet. And owing to a heady cocktail of injuries, and bizarre team selections, they’ve very rarely been played together. It’s also quite possible this system worked because one of our central midfielders decided to take control of midfield and move forward more often. That man yesterday was Michael Carrick. It mystifies many why he doesn’t do that more consistently. When he does it, we almost always do well.

But as much as we comment on the excellence of our attack in the second half, the less could be said about our defending in the first. I will continue with the refrain on Patrice Evra letting himself get skinned quite easily on several occasions by Aaron Lennon. When you see someone like Lennon getting so much time to deliver accurate crosses you can see why we have a bit of a problem in left back. His prolonged lack of form is puzzling. Rafael offered a lot going forward although did look out of position in defence. Personally, I think bringing on O’Shea for Evra might have been a better decision than pulling off Rafael.

All in all, a win that was an affirmation of the old United; a we’ll outscore you mentality, that may have restored some faith in the side’s attacking end. Ronaldo’s attitude was another welcome plus point — that celebration was something I never expected from the lad. So credit where it’s due, despite my bitterness towards him in the past. And Rooney turned in a performance that should turn heads. There is always the belief that if he stayed injury free for a season he could do wonders. Yesterday was a reminder of it, but we hope it’s not a false dawn.

Onwards and upwards from now on, hopefully. Were you watching, Merseyside?

EDIT: Right. I’m already seeing a flood of Liverpool fans swarming into this site to comment. I’d wager a large number of those will be cretinous bile. So if you Liverpool fans can’t offer anything constructive your comment will be summarily deleted. Save your energy and relax. It’s a Sunday.

I would start like this against arsenal(with o’shea at left back) granted carrick gets forward. If carrick doesnt, then i would take scholes off for anderson, play carrick as a deep-lying playmaker(where scholes was playing yesterday) and put andy in the CAM postion.

In a dream world we would have Lijaic with us already, and he would play where carrick was yesterday.

good old ‘arry needs to shut up! he wasnt complaining when we where denied a penalty agains pompey in the FA cup, and when we concede a bogus penalty and got our keeper sent off! but now when the shoes on the other foot, “we need video technology”, he needs to take his scouse loving son, his tart of step-daughter, and his bloody self, out the game of football and down to the pub where he and his family belong!

    Bloody hypocrite

*takes deep breaths* But still, we should the real question is, whether merseyside were watching?

As brilliant as Utd are second half, you cannot be serious in your rant about the penalty, can you? How many angles do you need? Gomez got a full hand on the ball, the ball was sent spinning away. I dont need any super slow mo’s thanks very much – I have eyes in my head! Just accept your good fortune and be thankful for it. Other days it’ll go against you (although not at OT, and certainly not against Spurs judging by the luck you’ve enjoyed in the last decade, ie Berbatov blatant pen last year at 0-0 and of course dear old Pedro Mendez and his ever so slightly over the line shot)!

@miele: Yeah i was thinking that myself. The worst thing from a spurs point of view, would be to sit back after ebing 2-0 up cos as soon as we got 1 i knew we would at least be getting a draw. Harry redknapp is such a negative manager, after battering our defence and being 2-0 up, instead of going for more he just sat back even though he knew we would be pushing more men forward thus meaning more chances for us. Just goes to show, if you play like that you will get nothing and just cos of his spineless tactics in the 2nd half they deserved to lose.
@UnitedUnited: I was thinking the same thing. If we went with the formation we did yesterday i think we would beat barca and it would probably be a great game, lots of goals. However i would just have to pray we didnt go all defensive with the parks and the like playing with all these dire defensive tactics. If we played like that we would lose. I just hope fergie goes more with the tactics of yesterday cos the front 4 could tear apart any team on the planet.

I felt sorry for Nani coming off but as good as he was going forward (and he was, he was decisive, putting in good crosses instead of dallying on the ball), he offered nothing going back and that offered Lennon and Modric the opportunity to run with free reign against their wing-backs.

Rooney was on another plain. If Tevez was the spark that brought United to life, then Rooney was the magician extraordinaire! His Scholes-esque pass put Carrick through for the penalty, his constant threat from the left caused Corluka infinite problems and his link up with the three other centre forwards was the stuff of wet dreams. The single best performance by a Man United player this season? I’d say so.

As for our Big Four all playing on the pitch at the same time? It’d be risky, you’d need to leave Ronaldo and Berbatov up front and Tevez and Rooney would be forced back down the wings doing a lot of defending, but there’s no reason why it couldn’t work in some sort of pseudo-424/442. It’d be the formation to showcase the skills of Hargreaves and Anderson in tandem as holding midfielders.

I an a Spurs fan. You took us appart following the pen and were worth the points playing, as you do, some excellent stuff. You were not at the races in the first half and we were taking advantage. Two up and – relatively speaking given the talent we were up aganst – quite comfortable. Then the United purple patch. Game over. You let your article down by not conceding Webb’s decision was plainly wrong and that it got you underway. It did not win you the game, but it was the turning point wich was given rather than won. Even if it is difficult to see the touch that gomes got in real time or on tv, Carrick would have to be a bit of a berk to play the ball at almost right angles to his momentum. You have a world class side with world class players. That gives you a great team. There really is no reason not to follow that with class and grace off the pitch, which helps make a great club. Good luck with the title and the Champs Lge. Hope you win both, would be well deserved.

The problem I have RedRanter, is that because of the OTT furore that came following Mr Webb giving us that penalty, that now when Referee’s referee our remaining games, they will be OVERLY reluctant to be seen to give us anything at all, when in fact a blatent penalty claim or free kick might be genuinelly deserved. Refereeing Man United is more high profile than refereeing any other team on the planet, and the amount of criticism any refereeing mistake acrues is humongous, and ref’s don’t want to bring a heap of it on themselves by giving anything to United. This is another UNFAIR disadvantage Man United have, communal hysteria by media and football world alike, causes refs to give us nothing even when it is outrageously obvious to every pair of eyes that we should have had a penalty, as in the Everton game at Wembley. So we have to live with that, and try all the time to stay on our feet and GET INTO THE TEAMS we will be coming up against, because we contrary to popular belief WILL not be getting any decisions from ref’s.

Yesterdays game was fucking immense!!! I enjoyed it, even the first half. I dunno, I always had the feeling of a comeback, just as I did against Everton in 2007. And boy, was I right!

I dont care what the press, the Scousers, or the ABUs for that matter, feeel about our penalty. I feel it was a penalty, but if the rules actually say otherwise at least that is one back! If football is going to be “we win as many as we lose” then we still should get 17 dubious goals in our direction for the rest of the season. I made a report of how many goals that had been wrongly disallowed and penalties not given, so I will not make it again. But I think putting at least 6 of them up for plate should be done.

    1. Milner handballs inside the area, nothing given.
    2. Rooney onside against Pompey, scores but offside.
    3. Rooney does nothing wrong against Zubbysomething, and finishes behind Carson. Ref says its a foul.
    4. Ronaldo is onside against Chelski, and scores but is later given offside.
    5. Carrick fouled by Lescott in the area, nothing given.
    6. Evans witha regular jump scores against Blackburn, disallowed.

There are so many occasions to choose from, so for every dubvious goal we get this season I will say “Thats one back”. Im getting sick of refs fucking up our season, so every time they give us a chance to do something, we should take it without hesitating.

On a positive note, the comeback was a response of true Champions. I just feel this was the win that wins us the title, because of the moral boost for us and the dagger blow to Liverpool, as well as the three vital points. Thanks to Ronaldo for showing the form of last season, and special thanks goes to Rooney who must have played his best game ever yesterday! Congrats RR.

I think this team sounds very FIFA or FM, but from what I have seen lately it might just be our strongest 11 and most compact team.

    VDS
    Rafael Rio Vidic Fabio
    Fletcher Carrick
    Ronaldo Tevez Rooney
    Berbatov

I think back to the Sunderland and Spurs game the most. In Wazzas two games as left winger he picked up 3 and 1/2 assists, as well as two goals. And if Ronaldo and Tevez are given free-roles, they can damage most teams. Berbatov I dont exactly want in there, but with the movement of Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo around him he might become better.

  19. Nino says:

I’m glad Fergie has stumbled upon his best formation, ‘cos finally now Berbatov can be utilised to somewhat reaching his true potential. If this ‘Fab 4′ front line works, United’s game could be elevated to a much higher echelon than anything ever witnessed in our history! If the defence holds tight and keeps its shape (I’m looking at you Evra) and the front 4 click, I’d fancy us to easily overpower Barcelona in a one-off match and smash to smithereens this myth that they are hands down the best football team in the universe at present.

I agree completely about the penalty. I’ve been rewatching Match of the Day (the part where Lineker calls it an “appalling decision”), and even the replays they use as evidence that the ref should have spotted it clearly show Carrick take the ball away, then Gomes move the ball in the SAME DIRECTION, about a second AFTER he knocks into Carrick. It probably shouldn’t have been given, and the fact Gomes wasn’t sent off shows that the ref had an inkling, but I’d expect that to be given against us at Anfield or the Emirates.

Evra was pathetic; in my opinion both goals were at least partially his fault and he did nothing of note going forward. Hopefully this result gets some much needed confidence back into all of our players. Rooney was obviously at his best, and Tevez was the catalyst for a change in the game, but I’d like the single Berbatov out for praise. What he did yesterday is why we bought him, for creating breaks out of midfield just on the offside line. With good finishers able to break out of midfield at pace he doesn’t need to be able to catch up, and his dominance around the penalty area was clear.

Nani badly needs a good game. His crossing was good but he didn’t get much of a chance to shine, and he was really the only player that we could have taken off, which is a pity. Hopefully we keep him for at least one more season, and hopefully he’ll get more chances next time around.

@michael: The problem with Evra is that he’s been playing way too tentatively since his return. If you watch him carefully, you’ll see him play one or two steps off the player he’s trying to defend. This gives them the time and space to use their speed and trickery and, consequentially, turn him upside down and inside out.

He seems almost afraid of the contact, and that is a not a good sign for a full back!! Hopefully he can muster the courage to solidify his position against Le Arse, otherwise the matchup against Walcock is gonna get ugly!!

    ReplyReply
  27. Redrich says:

@RedDevilEddy: I agree with Berbatov needing the support up front. With so many players around him, his quick touches and lay offs do usually find their target.

I’m not sure, though, that it’s always going to be possible to play that formation. Spurs gave us a lot in MF and it allowed us to commit more up front. Against the likes of Arsenal, we’ll have to content in the middle of the pitch or they’ll pick us apart with their passing game!!

@Nick: Sorry mate, but I agree with Red Ranter. Whether or not it was a penalty is inconclusive at best and really could have gone either way. Gomez did anticipate carrick’s run, but his touch on the ball was not due to his intial intent. It was clear from the angle in whichh he approached carrick that he intended to grab the ball at his feet and stretched his hand at the last moment, more reactionary than anything, thus his touch on the ball was fortuitous. Carrick, however, in moving the ball was illegally impeded and denied a scoring opportunity. But yes, Gomez did get a touch on. From what I saw, however, it was a 50-50 and the home player got the benefit of the doubt.

We can agree to disagree, but while it served as a catalyst, your players should have reacted more professionally to the perceived injustice. I’m not being ungracious, but the score was still 2-1 after the penalty.

A touch, any touch, on the ball should be enough for the challange to be deemed good in my book, particularly in the box and as long as that touch comes before contact with the player. @Nick: Your team is improving and certainly will go from strength to strength with HR at the helm. Next season should be solid for you once things get sorted out at the back.

If you argue that any touch on a ball before contact with a player should be deemed a good challenge, then potentially dangerous tackles from behind, two footed challenges (in which the ball is first touched) etc. ought to qualify then. I use these extreme examples to make the case that any touch on the ball should not be deemed sufficient if the player is illegally impeded in the process. This is what I felt Gomez was guilty. It seemed to me that his contact with the ball was simulatenous with felling Carrick. But again, agree to disagree

And arguing penalty decisions is so tiring. At full speed in this game to get it right is hard and we were hard done by last week. The press were not roaring over that missed call. These things even themselves out. As for berba and nani. Give them a break. Fergie has tinkered so much with team selection that these players often look confused when trying to figure the systems out. Evra will be fine too. He’s a natural athlete. He just needs to be told that defending is the priority and quit harking back to his monaco days when he was a winger. Hope the fab 4 get a chance to shine again against the arse. I would play. EVDS, rafael, vidic, ferdinand, evra, Carrick, giggs, rooney, ronaldo, tevez, and berba. Just go at em and tear em apart! No more boring 1-0 mourinho shit. Thats not what united are about.

Edwin van der Sar; Glen Johnson, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra; Ashley Young, Steven Gerrard, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo; Nicolas Anelka, Fernando Torres

    only one problem… where’s ROONEY??!!
he’s been our light this season, he should’ve been swapped out for Evra

We needed to retain possession in order to come back in that game, and that was why he was subbed out! Good early decision by SAF and it seemed to make all the difference didn’t it??!!

Glad Gerrard didn’t win but it shouldn’t have been Giggs. Giving it to Giggs this year just means passing over someone else who then may come to the end of their career without winning it. Noone deserves it more, but not this year.

If I had to choose one of the nominees it’d be Rio, but I think Lampard should have won. He;s been consistently great in a team that has had more ups and downs than I care to remember, and played a variety of roles superbly.

Travesty that Stephen Ireland didn’t win Young Player; he’s been a joy to watch this season, but Ashley Young has hardly been shite so fair play.

I think these results just go to show that voting should really be in June, not March.

Here we go off on the Nani see-saw again!

I know it’s none of my bloody business, but I think Stephen told things as he saw it..there’s no need for anyone to get personal here.

I’d commented during the first half itself about Nani’s performance. Yes, he did put in 2-3 crosses, but have our expectations of him been lowered so much now that we’re happy even when he does ONLY that much??! He looked to be improving towards the end of the half, but he was very poor before that. The biggest problem I think SAF finds with him is that Nani doesn’t give him enough confidence of being up for it enough, and maybe this feeling percolates throughout the team too. So what did he do? Brought on Tevez in the 2nd half, his attitude just lifted the team – look what a difference it made!

I feel for Nani and I really want him to do well, but that said, I still have very high expectations of him. So I’m not gonna sit back and say “Well done lad!” if he puts in 2 good crosses in 45min of play, no way sir!

Oh, and by the way, TAKE A BOW GIGGSY!!! We’re all so proud of you!!!! :)

Now that Ive said well done to Ryan, its time for more serious stuff. HOW THE FUCK DID ROONEY NOT GET INTO THAT TEAM??!!! He has been our third best player this season, our best attacking player, and some of the games he has had have been incredibly good. And not only that, he has performed consistenly well this season. He has scored 27 goals in 38 games this season, which for him is splendid! But no, of cource Anelka is in the team ahead of him because he was top scorer 4 months ago. Anelka? FUCKING ANELKA?! Its insane, it really is. Still, I hope not picking Rooney in this team will drive him further on, so he goes on to have the best seasons possibly the next few years. I know it may not matter a lot to him, but after him playing like he has done this season that should be taken as an insult.

This would have been my team:
    Van Der Sar
    Rafael Rio Vidic Cole
    Young Gerrard Lampard Giggs
    Torres Rooney

No place for Ronaldo, not because I feel he ahs had a bad season, but because Young, Rooney and Torres all have been better. I think he would have deserved a place, but Lampard, Gerrard, Giggs and Young have all performed more consistently than him…

(no Youtube for replays back then, you see) To me it’s amazing he’s never won this award because for all he’s done for the club, I can say that he is the epitome of United and British football. And despite his age, he still hasn’t lost any of his foxiness and craft. Probably the greatest Welsh player ever, I tip my hat off to Giggs for his contribution to United and football as a whole. I’m glad he won this award because it’ll probably be his last chance to win it, and I think he knows he’s reaching his end very soon. So kudos to Giggsy, the Welsh Wizard!

Haha, you just have to laugh at F365, sinking their own boat:

    Consistency
From the F365 Manchester United v Spurs match tracker:

‘56: PENALTY: Spurs are incensed and surround the referee Webb, but the replay suggests it was a straightforward decision. Carrick was played into the area and got a touch just before Gomes slid in to take him out. Gomes is yellow-carded.

‘59: Another look at that replay shows Gomes got a fingertip to the ball before taking out Carrick, so in fact that shouldn’t have been a penalty. Such a tight call though.

‘FULL TIME: The final whistle goes and Old Trafford cheers. United are back on top of the table, having gone three points clear of Liverpool with a game in hand. A poor penalty decision got them back on track after Spurs had taken a shock 2-0 lead in the first half, and United ran riot thereafter.’

Is it just me or is there something thats a bit annoying for lack of a better word about us being linked with karim benzema. He has repeatedly said we are not 1 of his choices saying madrid or barca are his choices, and with a massive transfer fee required and his seemingly obvious attitude problem i cant help but wonder why if the rumours are true we are still after him. I just keep getting the feeling with him he would be a serious influence on the team spirit here, i dont know why i just have that feeling about him.
I can see however why we might be linked with another striker. If im honest im just not sure about tevez, i just feel that we should give him a run of starting games from now to the end of the season. How do we do that, easy by going with our 2nd half formation to spurs and play the “fab 4″. As Rahul says they aint the fab 4 yet, but the 4 of them played a key role in getting the goals against spurs in the 2nd half. Spurs did sit back so some critics may say thats not a sign the 4 could work, well thats not a real reason to use against that because in truth how many teams dont sit back against us from the 1st minute. It sounds like arsenal are gonna go for it against us, and thats with injuries, so why dont we match them and go for it, play the 4 of them with a solid midfield 2 of say fletcher and an other and were ready to go. This time of the season is not the time for gambling as some may say and yes thats true to an extent, but quite possibly if those 4 clicked as they did against spurs on a regular basis then were talking about us scoring a shed load of goals and winning some serious trophies.
Not that were not on target to win trophies now but scoring does seem to be a part were struggling with right now, so can you say the 4 of them together wont score. And can you say our defence wont handle whats thrown at them. I say lets try the 4 together and see how it goes. Im sorry but football in general is a big gamble, but this could be a gamble i feel will pay off.

  103. Matt says:

@Traverse: The amazing thing is if we were to play those 4 in our team every week, we would be the best attacking team in the world easy. Barca play with 3 in midfield and a forward 3, we would be playing with a midfield 2 and almost 4 strikers all swapping position. For me though, the part that would put us above barca would be our brilliant defence. I know its been a bit dodgy of late but its still a good unit, so if we were to play barca in the final and went 4-2-3-1 your talking an absolute classic, with us i feel having the advantage because their defence is still pretty poor no matter what people say. It would just be a beautiful spectacle to watch, saying that though if we were to go with our bore tactics with say park, fletcher and play our slow build up play as we have most this season it could be an entirely different result, and sadly to say i could only see 1 winner and that would be barca. We must play to our strengths and thats attacking, and that means all 4 playing and that should start against arsenal on wednesday.

Couple of observations having watched the fame in full:

    1. Did anyone see Ronaldo? He wanted to win that game. Ive never seen him celebrate as much as he did today this season! Forget muted celebrations, shirt removing, fist pumping, eyes blazing super celebration!

    2. Berbatov for me plays better as a support striker with players like Rooney and Ronaldo overlapping. Maybe he was good as a main striker for teams like Tottenham but in our team he’d get isolated in that role as we’ve seen already this season

    3. The fabulous foursome works for us. So long as our defence stays strong and we have midfielders who can win the ball, there is no reason why we can’t have four players attacking and a midfielder linking defence and attack. Of course to give it a true test we need to play it against a decent team. But Fergie won’t have the balls-it is only when we are down and out that we remember our attacking instincts and glorious results like this happen!

    4. Our defence still looks dodgy and very vulnerable in the air. Thank god we are only playing Arsenal. Although we need to be careful about Evra and Rafael getting skinned by players such as Walcott, Nasri, Van Persie.

    5. This game and the Villa game show that this isn’t just a team of softies. It is a team that has heart (although it needs adversity to show it). I thought we’d lost our ability to pull off miraculous recoveries. Guess I was wrong!

I find it funny that spurs and there fans are crying over a penalty decision that was followed by 4 goals ,more than United fans who were denied a stone wall penalty that lead to us being knocked out of the FA cup. I repeat, we were denied a penalty in a FA cup semi final which we lost on Penalty kicks. Spurs are mad at giving up a 2nd half penalty in a league game win they were up 2-0 and went on to lose 5-2.

@johnsom33: The worst thing about all this is the media coverage this penalty is getting. In my opinion looking back i still think it was 50:50 but you can see why the ref would give it when he has a split second decision. The problem with all this coverage is 2 things.
    1. Its taking away what happened in the rest of the match, the press seem to forget we did score 4 other goals and in my opinion produced the single best attacking display i have seen from a team in a half in years. Amazing football was played, and yet all we hear is about that bloody penalty, pathetic how all the great play is overshadowed by a penalty.
    2. And this is probably the worst is that after all this coverage over a supposed dodgy penalty, referees will be hesitant to give us penalties unless they are stone wall ones. We saw after moyes’ remarks how we were denied a blatent penalty. I really feel from now on if we have a player clean through for example and he gets brought down, the refs will think a second longer before giving us one just because according to the press we always get soft penalties.
Thats another matter i would like to moan about, penalties at old trafford. Why do people always say teams never gets pens at OT when we know they do. I remember no less than 3/4 penalties given against us in the last 3 seasons. Arsenal got 1 which they missed in 06/07, bolton were given a penalty that season as well i think or it was last season, portsmouth got that one in the cup when rio went in goal, and also gerrard this year in the humiliating 4-1 defeat. That just off the top of my head im sure theres more, and you have to ask yourself when was the last time a pen was awarded at chelsea or pool. I cant remember a pen at stamford bridge for the life of me and at anfield they must be few and far between. It just gets to me how we are always stuck with that tag, yet other teams never get pens awarded against them and no1 mentions a god damn thing. The bloody press, hate those leaches.
I just hope their coverage of all these penalty incidents dont cost us a genuine pen when we need it later on which denys us a trophy like the fa cup 1 week ago.

British media is totally against United it seems, fuck them.. the only way to shut their big fart mouth is to win the title without even letting Liverpool even get a sniff from here on..Not that they will…except Torres and Gerrard they have got is all shit..Rafa can only gain attention when he is crying how he is not getting any refereeing decisions his way and loosing points..HE sucks…Had we not lost to them in that appalling fashion @ OT we already would have won the title..

Hello there chaps…long time reader, first time writer.

I just want to add my two penneth about the boy Nani. I honestly dont think he is fit to wear the shirt and obviously Fergie feels the same, which is always a good indicator in my book!

Whoever says wingers dont need to track back is obviously extremely deluded and Nani’s attacking output does not vindicate his sheer laziness in helping out his fullback. He also nearly cost us the game the other week against Porto when he came off the bench and did nothing except prance around and ignore his duties in a hugely important tie…arent your subs meant to inject a bit of energy and work rate?

Fair enough he is one of our best crossers at the club but that is literally all he does….except try hugely speculative screamers that end up in the family stand. He also rarely beats his man and gets to the byline, so I really do not see the point of him. Gary Neville is a better crosser of the ball for starters. I can just, and only just, about take it from Ronaldo but not this unlikeable little prima donna.

Another thing…maybe if you watch on TV you dont get to see the full extent of his laziness but if your at the game and can see the whole pitch it makes a huge difference.

It seems this report vindicates mine and others opinion on his attitude.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/apr/28/ryan-giggs-nani-manchester-united

I hope I never see his annoying little Michael Jackson mug wearing red ever again. The slimy get has the temerity to leave the stadium early during one of the biggest games of the season…on what grounds? He once scored a screamer against Spurs and took the piss out of Arsenal for 30 seconds a year ago. And look what happened when he did go back to his ideal home on the bench…5 goals

Ok thats my first rant…please be kind and dont inflict me with too much vitriol!

Well, Fergie’s come out and rubbished the Nani rumours that he’s off in the summer. Well, I don’t know if the rumours are true (that Nani was upset and left OT before the final whistle last weekend), but Fergie would have surely given him a piece of his mind if he did so.

Anywayz, it now looks like Nani IS gonna stay, so let’s hope he brings home the goods next season!!!

@Dominic: Just so that you don’t get it like a bolt from the blue, let me inform you that you’ll be getting a barracking from a select few Nani lovers, whenever they read your comment. So brace yourself. :D

It won’t be pretty. Trust me. :)

Oh shit the bed! Nothing like first impressions eh? I posted it on the new thread too…is that amateurish?

I am already out of my depth! Maybe I should have started with something nice like how much I hate Benitez?

    @Dominic:

You are allowed to say anything here as long as it’s not personal. However, some people take anything said against Nani personally — as if they had a role in his development as a footballer  . So I just wanted to warn you not to take it badly when you’re called a prick for your efforts. Just giving you context.

Also regarding posting several times, not to worry. There has been way more amateurish stuff done on this blog.

@antsBoy: If I was Lil Man Nani, BEFORE I left the ground early, I would have kicked Fergie in both feckin shins, and told him to Feck off, I wouldn’t be staying around with all his little pet Nancy boys next season. .

@Dominic: Yeah right, YOU just keep on spouting SHITE fellow, because your viewpoint is bollocks IMO mate. If Dithering Evra didn’t track forward all the fecking time, Nani wouldn’t need to track back. As for Nani being lazy, what utter bollocks. As for Fergie being good indication – hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha – his judgement counts for nothing where Nani is concerned because he doesn’t play the player enough. Last season Nani was fucking magic, but then I don’t expect the bigotted blind to see  .

@Karl: Fabio is FAR FAR better than Rafael, but then Rafael is one of Fergie’s little PET boys isn’t he?

@colver: Walcott will DO Evra, skinning him til he is red raw and bleeding. Evra’s defensive abilities have been shite lately  .

@Craig Mc: Fabio is far better than Rafael offensively. Both remain suspect defensively though. The reason Rafael got a contract is because he’s played enough first team games and could show enough promise. It’s not Fergie preferring Rafael over Fabio. It’s Fergie giving Rafael a chance at RB because we really didn’t have anyone there. The actual pet boy you should be after is really Evra. Fergie is loyal to Evra because he was massive for us in the past. In 2009 he’s been shite, yet Fergie seems to play him.

So for Fabio to win a contract, he needs to show his worth in the senior team which he can do only if he breaks into it ahead of Evra.

Because, really there’s no questioning either of the twins’ abilities. And you’d think you wouldn’t want to split the twins unless one is really shite. :D Fabio needs to overcome his injury issues and prove it. Till then he will remain potentially brilliant.
