Man Utd to battle Chelsea for 29-goal hitman

Manchester United are set to do battle with Premier League rivals Chelsea for the signing of Robert Lewandowski, Sky Sports understand.

The 29-year-old has been in blistering form once again this season, scoring 29 goals in all competitions, including 20 in the German Bundesliga in 23 appearances (20 starts).

However, over the past couple of weeks it is believed that the Polish star wants to leave Bayern Munich for a new challenge in England.

Sky Sports are today reporting that Lewandowski wants to persuade the runaway Bundesliga leaders to let him go and that the striker’s future could become clearer within the next fortnight.

The Polish international is under contract until 2021 which means that he wouldn’t come cheap.  However, the report states that Robert Lewandowski has personally hired super-agent Pini Zahavi to negotiate a deal with Bayern Munich to release him.

Robert Lewandowski has scored 97 goals in 119 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern Munich over the past four years since joining from rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Given how lethal in front of goal that he is, it goes without saying that the Pole would be an excellent acquisition if we were able to pull it off.  And if Chelsea really are the only competitors to us then we have an excellent opportunity to bring the goal machine to Old Trafford.

Over the summer we beat Chelsea to the signing of Romelu Lukaku and last month we beat Manchester City to the signing of Alexis Sanchez.
