Man Utd flop could join Chelsea

Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea has come under question in recent weeks.

The Blues’ 2-1 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday leaves the defending Premier League champions down in fifth place.

Chelsea are still in the Champions League but take a 1-1 draw from Stamford Bridge to Barcelona next month, and then face Leicester City in the FA Cup a few days’ later.

Unless Conte pulls off a miracle in the Champions League and wins the trophy many expect the former-Juventus man to be shown the door in West London.

Names are already being linked as potential replacements but one name mentioned this weekend comes as a huge surprise.  That is former Manchester-United manager Louis van Gaal.

The Mirror claim that the Dutch manager is in the frame to replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea.

Van Gaal is looking for a short-term job and is keen to have another shot at the Premier League after he was dismissed at Old Trafford the day after winning the 2016 FA Cup, to be replaced by Jose Mourinho.

During his two seasons in charge of us Louis van Gaal finished fourth and fifth, with the FA Cup being his only major trophy success.  He was generally considered a failure by most.

Should Conte be dismissed before the end of the season then the 66-year-old is available to see the season through which would make sense, whilst Chelsea could perhaps be planning to appoint a full-time manager over the summer.

The Mirror have quoted the former United boss as saying:

“I’d be interested in a Premier League club where I’d have the chance to get one over on Manchester United.”

Louis van Gaal hasn’t had a job since being dismissed by us nearly two years ago.
