Man Utd legend ‘astonished’ by Alexis Sanchez move

Manchester United legend David Beckham admits he was “astonished” to see Alexis Sanchez join us from Premier League rivals Arsenal last week.

The Chilean superstar joined us in a direct swap with Henrikh Mkhitaryan last month, making a man of the match debut in our 4-0 win at Yeovil Town in the FA Cup four days later.

Speaking to Sky Sports, David Beckham admitted he did not expect us to be able to sign Sanchez from Arsenal.

The former Manchester United and England captain said:

“I still can’t believe it’s happened, to be honest.

“When he’s been part of a club as big as Arsenal and then he moves a few hours away up north to the biggest club, it’s astonishing to see.”

David Beckham went on to say he is “excited” to see Alexis Sanchez in a Manchester United shirt:

“We all wish him luck. I’m a Manchester United fan so I am excited about having someone of his talent wearing a Manchester United shirt – so it’s exciting times for us.”

Beckham came through the youth ranks at Manchester United and was part of the famous Class of ’92.  He made 394 appearances in all competitions for us under Sir Alex Ferguson, scoring 85 goals, before leaving for Real Madrid in 2003.

Alexis Sanchez is set to make his Premier League debut for us on Wednesday night when we take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.  We were 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in October whilst Sanchez himself scored in Arsenal’s 2-0 win in the North London derby back in November.

It will be interesting to see which position Sanchez starts against Mauricio Pochettino’s side as he is capable of playing on the left, right and in the number 10 role.
