Man Utd reach £92m agreement – report

Manchester United are expected to busy during this summer’s transfer window.

We have already agreed deals for central midfielder Fred to join from Shakhtar Donetsk and 19-year-old full-back Diogo Dalot to sign from FC Porto.

Marouane Fellaini and Matteo Darmian are two players expected to leave at the end of the month whilst others could follow.

One further piece of important business that Manchester United need to do this summer is tie David de Gea down to a long-term contract.

The Spanish number one is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world right now, coming off the back of a Premier League season where he won the Golden Glove award for keeping the most clean sheets.  The Spaniard is heading into the final year of his contract with us, though there is an option for a further year. Real Madrid have been strongly interested in luring him back to his homeland for a number of years now.  Though the rumours this summer have been much quieter than previous transfer windows, despite the Champions League holders’ need of a new shot stopper.

The Manchester Evening News did report last week that the 27-year-old had agreed a new five-year deal at Old Trafford but no official announcement has since been made.

However, it appears that a deal must be close, as a second source, the reliable Spanish outlet, Marca, are now reporting that we have started negotiations with the goalkeeper over a deal that will pay David de Gea €105 million (£92m) over the next five seasons.

David de Gea kept 22 clean sheets in 46 appearances in all competitions for us last season and deserved every single one of them.  He has been outstanding for us over the past five seasons, winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award on four occasions.

Whilst we can be confident that these reports from the Manchester Evening News and Marca are accurate, it would be great if Manchester United could come out and confirm that David de Gea has put pen to paper over a new deal, to rule out any late offers from Real Madrid.

De Gea is currently with Spain in Russia at the 2018 World Cup where he will start between the posts against Iran this evening.
