Man Utd target signs £62m deal

It’s transfer deadline day and a number of clubs are making late moves to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season.

Jose Mourinho did his business last week with the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in what appears to be our only signing this month.

One player we had been strongly linked with earlier this month was Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.  Speculation was strong as the 2014 World Cup winner was in the final six months of his contract at the Emirates.

It meant he may have been available on the cheap this month or for a free transfer over the summer.

However, any hopes of signing the German star have been laid to rest today as Mesut Ozil has agreed a new three-and-a-half-year deal at Arsenal, believed to be worth an astonishing £350,000-per-week.

As per the BBC‘s report, the 29-year-old becomes the highest earner in the North London club’s history.

Ozil’s staggering wage means that he will be earning around £62 million before tax for the duration of his contract – this for a player that cost the club £42.5 million in the summer of 2013 when he joined from Real Madrid.
