Man Utd vs Newcastle Utd: Preview

Tag: Game PreviewRed Ranter @ 17:10

A very short one for everyone. I am headed to the airport for a long flight to some part of the world that I would call home. So this would be pretty short.

Newcastle, who are managerless at the moment, will play us today. I don’t really like the thought of a managerless team. It could be argued that due to the uncertainty surrounding their situation, the players may put in uncertain displays. But it makes things unpredictable, so complacency is something that would be best taken off our players’ system.

Harry Redknapp showed some semblance of sanity rejecting the offer to take over the reins of the cursed club. With the uncertainty the only winners here are the bookies.

In team news, Hargreaves, Saha and Neville look certain to miss the game with knocks — which wouldn’t come as much of surprise. On team composition, Carrick should partner Anderson in the center of the park, while Giggs and Ronaldo will play on the wings. Tevez — who I would expect to be fit — would partner Rooney up front, with the usual men in defence.

Patrice Evra has opened up contract talks with the club. The left back deserves every bit of an extension, and it was always going to be a matter of time with Pat.

Well that’s about it. Gotta rush. Catch you all later.

And needless to say, since I won’t get the game while I am in the aircraft there won’t be a report.

Cheerio.

  2. dan(U-O.L) says:

why dont we try something new like playing pique in the holding midfield role and andy attacking mid.

  3. Tomas says:

Because we don’t need to experiment with players in positions, they’re not going to play at the club.

  4. dan(U-O.L) says:

are you trying to say pique isnt going to play for man utd ever.

  5. Ollie Y says:

dan i think what tomas means is that we will not play pique in a holding midfield role for us in the future not that he wont play for us at all. ARSENAL 1-1 BIRMINGHAM YES YES YES!!!

  6. Taron says:

I can’t believe it. and then we were complaining to bit them 1:0. Good job Birmingham. GO MANUTD!!!!!

  7. ManUtd9Titles says:

To the top of the league now boys!!!

  8. RedDevil says:

Rooney should have had at least 4 goals in the first half. United have played good, but not better. Good game though. Hope we score 2 or 3 in the second half.

  9. Taron says:

This is frustarting Rooney missed so many chances . We had two penalties turned down. Refferes are real returds…so many mistakes…I am starting to have a bad feeling about this.

  10. RedDevil says:

If we win today, we go top of the PL with goal difference. And if Newcastle continue to defend like they did in the first half, we should score 2 or more in the second half. But Fergie better give the team the “hair dryer” in the dressing room.

  11. Wink says:

danny simpson! what a move he created but couldnt finish… pity really… the moments from 70 to 80 were great… ANOTHER SHOT BY DANNY SIMPSON! and while i type ferdy scores!

  12. Wink says:

gotta be the game of the season. thus far… if not… the second half of the season! holy crap! top again. so much to say too happy!

Best game of the season! Top of the league! What more do I need to say?! Oh, Tevez scored two, Rio one, Smudge sent off for saying something to the ref, and we could have had 20! :-) :-)

Sorry Dan, I wasn’t back in time to do the line ups!

Well what a rubbish display by the team, how the hell did they only get 6, it is ridiculous!

On a more serious note, all hail Ronnie, the King of OT!

  18. dan(U-O.L) says:

now ronaldo is only a goal away to equaling his tally last s eason overall and premier league.

  19. TJ says:

    That was orgasm football

  20. dan(U-O.L) says:

    500% CORRECT TJ!!!

  21. dan(U-O.L) says:

redranter, i think you or ahmed kinda do nweed to do a match report, i mean, what a win. looking at the fixtures this month its going to be tougher for us to stay top than arsenal, we need stay strong and pull through.

  22. Taron says:

Where do i start. 6:0. Leading EPL. I am so happy. Ronaldo hat trick. Tevez double. Best game of the season so far. Everybody was great, even Carrick. I would like to mention Simpson too. Great job. I even watched Arsenal’s and Liverpool’s draws :). What a day. GO!!!GO!!! MANUTD!!!!!!!!!

  23. gator says:

WOW now we need ronaldo to come up with some brilliant poetic comments to the media to go with his onfield performances and he will be a true United #7 women, booze, trawlers, and seagulls have already been taken.

  24. ManUtd9Titles says:

Just the kind of game to make Carrick look decent. Wow!!! Who ever thinks we need a new RB has obviously never seen Simmo.

We are Top now. No looking back boys.

  25. ebrahim says:

  26. JK says:

    So glorious!

Ronnie scored over 50 league golas for UTD,
    He has his 1st hattrick.
    a 6-0 score!
    Scousers draw, Gooners draw,
.. and we are on top
    Glory glory Man Utd~~~

  27. dan(U-O.L) says:

if we give danny a good run n the team, i reckon he could be first choice right-back.

  28. Jim Fish says:

What do all of you think of O’Shea at right back? Is he good enough to start there as Gary’s replacement? I thought he played very well in the position.

  29. JK says:

    From RAWK about Ronaldo
“He’s even a better player than he is a cunt.

    That’s how good he is.”

    LOL

  30. RedDevil says:

Simpson is a talent, a great crosser and goes forward often. Maybe next Gaz? Just faster and more goals. Hes getting a hell of a lot of chances, he just needs to convert em. I reckon that if he is given trust and a run in the side, we dont need to buy someone like Hutton or Richards. We can sell Brown too. Just once more: RONALDO IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE FUCKIN WORLD. Finally a hat trick and he scored them in different ways. Third free kick goal of the season(!), Great touch and calmness in the finishing for the second, and he murdured Cacapa before just hammering the ball in for his third. He really has grown with us. Why would he leave us? And more importantly, why would we sell him?!

  31. Taron says:

Please anybody post a link for the highlights. I have watched the game but I want to see it again :)

  32. RedDevil says:

Same with me Taron. All the highlights must take 20-25 minutes. Enjoyed the match! :-)

  33. Taehr says:

Absolutely brilliant stuff today.carrick looked good again.everyone got forward.even simpson did.ferdinand showed better finishing than rooney today,he even whipped in a beautiful cross. What I dont get is why arsenals football is the “best”?birmingham?get real.

  34. dan(U-O.L) says:

some one must of made a lot f money at the bookies. i wonder how much you would get for a 6-0 win, a rio goal, and a ronny hat trick all together, to make that bet you must be a real wealthy gambler.

  35. indianpunk says:

    Quoted from Taron

Where do i start. 6:0. Leading EPL. I am so happy. Ronaldo hat trick. Tevez double. Best game of the season so far. Everybody was great, even Carrick. I would like to mention Simpson too. Great job. :). What a day. GO!!!GO!!! MANUTD!!!!!!!!!

plus that i must mention rooney deserved a goal and so did simpson nani anderson giggs and hell even carrick who had a really had a good chance and did come forward as well at one or two instances
We could easily have got 10 goals after ferdinand scored i was just praying two more just to break the roma record
Anyways only one thing of worry was lack of scoring from corners
(Corner Kicks 16) but hell we made up for that really nice

We stay on top and we’re not giving back whats ours

    Top notch stuff
    Glory Glory Man United

PS :-Good1 Gator u definately reminded me of cantona

When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.

All the goals not big only 46 secs and shitty quality

  38. Eddie says:

This must have been one of Ronaldos best games in a United shirt. Amzing display, great goals and loads of trickery. We played against a weak and confused side, their full backs were afraid and went into CD position, and that created many chances for us. But if we dont convert 40 % of the chances, like today, in the future we might pay for it. I mean, how could Rooney not score today. I think it must have been harder not to score today than to score. Saha again injured, we need Huntelaar or someone else between 10£ mill-17£ mill that can convert chances like those we got today. The best game of the season, no question. I just wonder how many best secon-halfes of the season United are going to have this season. I mean Wigan, Boro, Sunderland(a) and now Newcastle. Not complaining, just noting. I think we have to play like today if we are going to beat Reading next weekend. Tough game! I will be sleeping really well tonight. Thanks to Ronaldo and co.

    ***For the Highlitrequests

  40. RedDevil says:

    Ronaldos best United games since 2003(in timely order).Bolton(4-0), Millwall(3-0), Everton FA cup(2-0), Arsenal(4-2), Arsenal Fa cup final(0-0), Bolton(4-1), Pompey(3-1), Fulham(4-2), Wigan carling cup final(4-0), Fulham(5-1), Pompey(3-0), Villa(3-0), Reading(3-2), Europe XI(4-3), Bolton(4-1), Roma(7-1), Wigan(4-0), Dynamo(4-0), Everton(2-1), Newcastle(6-0). Am I missing any game? Tell me then. BTW, which game do you think he performed best in?

  41. Hugo Steckelmacher says:

I have to say, I thought Carrick was immense today. Obviously, it was the Ronaldo show but Carrick’s passing in the first half, when United were poor at times, was the only part of United’s game that looked dangerous and incisive (well, other than Rooney). And he did get some challenges in, too; though there were a couple of occasions when he wasn’t combative enough.

  42. mike says:

anyone know where Grognard has been lately? hmmm its becomming worrying if you ask me…….

  43. ebrahim says:

i hope to download this game and also the the match of day highlights.

  44. RedDevil says:

Guys, I just read that Fred, a 24 year old first team striker in Olymique Lyon has been released by the club because of he wanting to leave. Maybe he is the answer to our striker crisis. He is Brzils fourth striker, and that is quite good. Only Robinho, Ronaldo and Adriano are favorited over him in Brazil. I mean, he is Brazilian, young and free. Doesnt cost a thing. Not as good as Benzema, Villa or Huntelaar, but better than Saha.

  45. m haydar says:

if u want the goals go to: www.eplmathches.blogspot.com, and pick the game from the right.

  46. gator says:

and this one from besty “I spent all my money on cars, booze and women - the rest I just wasted” - George Best.

  47. m haydar says:
  48. Kurt says:

RedDevil, I’ve been following the Fred situation for a while, and he is a great player. He’s tall, and he can create scoring chances. The only problem is that he wanted to leave Lyon because he was not getting enough playing time. Lyon began playing Benzema ahead of him and he became unhappy. I don’t think he would come to Manchester because he is looking for more playing time and wants to start. He has actually been linked with several mid-table teams also.

  49. Kurt says:

Also, what are all of your thoughts on John O’Shea. He seems to me to be a decent fullback, and on either side. I don’t think we need to buy a backup fullback while he’s with us. But a new RB may be needed; although Simpson did look good today.

  50. Taron says:

O’Shea was very nervous in 1st half and even though he had a solid game, I am not comfortable with him.Simpson should be given a run and if he is not good enough that we should go for RB and O’Shea should always be a sub. My opinion

  51. rick says:

Excellent Performance .. Well Couldn’t have asked for a better one considering the upcoming fixtures.
    Carrick ! Take a Bow !
What a performance ! For the first time he has controlled the mid-field more than Anderson … It was like watching a QB in action !He intercepted tackled and released the ball quickly with extreme precision ..
Not even a single back pass and CB`s attacking was a delight to watch ..
Ronaldo scoring 22 now itself shows the scheme of things about to come .. This guy desperately wants the Best Player Award and rightfully so ..
Rooney missed few chances however No one can ever a complain against him .
VDS was solid and Oshea contributed a lot offensively , with the likes of Scholes Hargo Brown Neville returning and Nani Carrick Oshea performing very well , the upcoming fixtures can be tackled by Utd very well ..
Reading away Fa Cup against Tottenham/Reading at home Pompey home Tottenham Away City home and then the first UCL

By the way we all discuss and dissect about striker purchase , but knowing Fergie he would never ever compromise that position with a ordinary player …

Interesting and Tough Fixtures ahead hoping that we will continue to do well !

  52. Hugo Steckelmacher says:

Saha is dead now… so perhaps another striker will come in after all.

  53. dan(U-O.L) says:

aparently he’s out for the rest of the season with ligament damage according to bbc.

  54. RedDevil says:

Forget a full back. We got Simmo, Sheasy, Brown, Pique, Silvestre and Neville. Not world class, but good enough. We need a striker. Since Saha is injured 6/7 months in one season, I dont rate him any longer. What strikers do we have then? Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo if necesary. Giggs is no striker, neither is Anderson or Nani. We need a world class stiker like Hunter, Villa or Benzema. I dont care if they need to accept to be on the bench. Remember, no player plays every game in a season.

  55. Just1n says:

Does anyone think there is a problem with Tevez and Ronaldo. They don’t celebrate each others goals. Wonder if there is an issue there.

  56. Tomas says:

Don’t read too much into these situations. They salute each other at least on 2 of their total 5 goals. On the remaining 3 they don’t appear on screen to celebrate, but if you had to worry about “issues” everytime a player didn’t appear on camera to celebrate goals of other players, that’s all you could worry about.
