Manchester United 08/09 Away Kit Pics
The Sun has put up pictures of the Manchester United away kit for the 08/09 season.
I must say that I’m not really sure what to make of them. My first impressions go something like, “Meh!”. I sort of like the collar but the blue doesn’t sit too well with me. To be sure, I suppose this is the third kit apart from the existing home and away — despite what the Sun are saying. Although feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
Thankfully we get to retain our home kit. Anyway, here are the pics if you’re interested.

Ronaldo still not decided. Fuck, how long will this take. Just when we expect an answer, he just delays it. This is getting really annoying!
Sportinglife.com:
“Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted very strongly that he is looking to leave the European champions for Real Madrid this summer.
The 23-year-old, following Portugal’s 3-2 defeat to Germany in the quarter-finals of Euro 2008, spoke about his club future.
“In two or three days time I will announce my future because the tournament is over for me,” he said in Portuguese after the game.
“I will speak to Manchester United.
“I will try to reach an agreement and we will see.”
Ronaldo helped fire United to a Premier League and Champions League double this season.
When asked if he has made a decision regarding a move to Real Madrid, he replied: “No, not yet.”
The winger, one of the world’s top players, is still under contract with the Red Devils but Spanish champions Real have been in hot pursuit of him since the end of the season.”
To be continued….

Oh BTW United have signed a German in the past, as recently as 2005 to be precise. He is as far as I know still on our books. The player in question is GK Ron-Robert Zieler

SkySports:
Ronaldo also revealed he has been carrying a foot injury for the past three months.
He added: “I’m going to have an operation now. I have had a small problem for about three months, in my foot.
“I’ll have the operation and then have a good recovery period.”

Since you asked here’s you answer. You said johnsom was not a real fan of Wayne Rooney. You passed judgement on him. And that was the only thing I was against, not the rest of your argument.
Whereas here, JB asked you on what basis you thought WW2 is a factor. That IS a fair question. He questioned your belief.

Santa cruz scoring 19 goals in the epl is far from shite. This Is a tough league to score in(just ask forlan)
And sell ronaldo, get ramos sneijder plus cash and then give the right wing to nani he is ready.

I say sell Ronaldo, get 75 million plus Sneijder. Buy Podolski and Huntelaar and remove the Glazer bill.
Next season formation:
VDS
Neville Rio Vida Evra
Nani Hargreaves Anderson Sneijder/Podolski(has played well there!)
Tevez/Podolski/Huntelaar Rooney
subs: TK, Brown, Oshea, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Podolski/Huntelaar.
Amazing team.

How were you expecting an answer immediately after the game. You cant make a decision on a hypothetical situation and you can’t make a decision on something you have no control of. TBH the fact he hasn’t declared he wants to join Real already is probably a good thing as its clearly a sign he isnt utter desperate to leave but content to either stay if United want to keep hold of him or fulfil his dream if they want to cash in. If he really wanted to leave surely he would be responding now to engeneer a move

Engineering moves aren’t always done by straight talk. I was expecting a decision after his 3 week holiday but he said that he’ll say it in 2-3 days which is a surprise.
From what he’s said, it looks like he wants a pay-rise and has been content to let things play out by itself so far. It is what I am disappointed about. (not the pay rise bit, but the content to let other scramble for him rather than him having to make a choice.)

wakey; Was Cantona, Ronaldo, van Nistelrooy ready to play in the EPL with no previous experience? Sorry but I really disagree with you on that one. A great player is a great player and he will adapt. Football isn’t brain surgery. Hargreaves had a hard time trying to adapt because he was injured and his pace wasn’t yet 100%. Yet, it didn’t take him long for we should remember what he eventually meant to our winning the double. Did Drogba, Adebayor, Bergamp, Klinsmann, Vialli, Torres, and other greats have a hard time adjusting to the game? I really and honestly don’t see how your argument has any weight. Instead you would rather make the judgment that Santa Cruz, a career underachiever is more qualified to play for United based on one season for Blackburn where he played with very little pressure to attain trophies. When he was at Bayern he couldn’t cut it because he was invisible in games that he played in. He couldn’t even beat out Claudio Pizarro and the over the hill Roy MaKaay for a regular starting spot.

RedDevil; You didn’t actually expect him to make a decision the moment after his country was eliminated did you? Even with my deep seeded dislike for him now, I am still willing to be fair and offer him a few days to gather himself, talkt to United and make what we all hope will be a wise decision.
RR There is a big difference between saying that a player is not a fan of Wayne Rooney and saying that I question whether he is a fan of Wayne Rooney. The key word there is QUESTION. Therefore I am not telling him, I am asking him?

RR you hit it right on, he wants a pay rise. imho Ronaldo(or Lord Satan aka Mendes) has given United a ultimatum. “Pay me X lbs a week or I go to Madrid”.
Obviously I am just some asshole with a computer and no clue what is going on. But from his comments about it not being up to me I take it as he just wants the most lucrative deal.

I’ll quote it:
If you own a Rooney jersey I suggest you give it to somebody you know who is actually a fan of Wayne’s because from where I’m standing, you clearly are not.
Clearly does not sound like a question. I rest my case.

Grognard, I wouldn’t take ‘Super’ Mario if he was offered for free. He has completely choked on the big stage. He wouldn’t get in the team over Rooney, Tevez or a half Saha.
Schweinsteiger and Podolski i’ll give you. Both good players, would do a job for any top 6 Premiership sides.
Frings, as you say is 31, and I don’t think wouldn’t get in over Scholes, Hargreaves or Carrick. Lahm would be good back up for Brown or Evra if injured, but he isn’t better than either of them.. Fritz is pretty fast (and tall), but I wouldn’t take him over Brown either…
Neuer is one for the future, so we’ll see, and the same for Adler.

Traverse; He’s a young player and he didn’t play any worse than Benzema. A little harsh to judge a player’s worth based on three games don’t you think? What about all the older stars for France and Italy? Are they all crap now all of a sudden because they didn’t do it over a three game period? And like Saha has never had a bad stretch. Even Rooney has had many stretches where he didn’t play well and couldn’t buy a goal. Come on give me a break Traverse. My point was that all those players are good enough to play for United. That said that doesn’t mean that there is space for all of them now.

of all german players u have named, only Adler is the one who has publicly said of his “love” to play for manchester untied in future!!! [ Source: his wiki page ]
So once VDS is retired (in 1-2 years) do you think he should be the one to come over as replacement (or would you rather prefer some other quality keeper like Boruc ).
If the answer is Boruc than that gives you the answer why no germans have played for us! There were simply better players available at utd ranks than the ones who could have come from germany (discounting for the fact that the best of them would have gone to Bayern and in the 90s probably Bayern had more pulling power than us!)

Traverse; seriously? Lahm isn’t better than Brown at RB? Yeah right. Lahm is probably the best in the world in his position, Brown is slightly above average at RB and a good CB.
On SSN they are saying that Ronaldo said that he’s played his last EPL game to Spanish journalists. I don’t think this is BS because they have quotes attributed to Ronaldo. If Ronaldo leaves we need a world class left or right winger and a striker unless Fergie plans on a 4-3-3 formation or something similar in which case we may only need a striker.
As for the EUROs I would love to see a Russia and Germany final. I don’t know why but I’m drawn to these 2 teams. I’ve liked Germany’s new style that I first noticed in the WC and liked. However I think it will probably be between Spain (although they might choke against Italy) and Holland (although they do have a bad defense). I’m looking forward to it though.

Jos; We are talking many years so I don’t by that theory, sorry. My preference would be Neuer. Although I do like Boruc. And I’d take Lahm over Brown, Ballack over anyone, Podolski over Tevez and Shweinsteiger as a replacement at RMF if Ronaldo left. None of these players would be a downgrade except Shweinsteiger when compared to CR7. And in the past I would not have turned down a chance to have players like
Lehmann, Kahn, Sammer, Kohler, Babbel, Ziege, Moeller, Bierhoff, Klinsmann and Frings to name a few. All of them were world class in their day.
Liam; My pre tournament picks was Germany to win and the surprise team for me was Russia. I honestly can see this as a final because I think the Russians have the quality to beat the Dutch and get past Spain or Italy. A tough task but I think they are capable of it. Still, the Dutch look awfully tough and both Spain and Italy are tough too. If I was to guess now I am picking Germany vs Italy. Italy just finds a way to get it done even if they are not deserving of anything. I can just see them beating the Spaniards 1-0 and then shocking the Dutch too. They can also beat Germany because they have Germany’s number, but I’ll remain optimistic and hope for a German/Dutch final.

There was another player, I forget his name, a very good German winger who quit at 28 (I think 2 years ago) due to injury and personal reasons, had he been there he would have started on the wing for Germany in the last World cup. I liked him a lot but can’t seem to remember his name, could you help me out here?

Since we now know that Ronaldo(aka Voldemort) wants to leave, which player do you want to replace him.
I want either Sneijder or Podolski. Move Nani to the right wing and put Podolski on the left. Or Sneijder and Nani can change wings. Read that United are after Van der Vaart. Great player, but would he fit into Uniteds style?

I just thought of something. Some weeks ago, Scolari said that he had told Ronalod to take the oppurtunity to join Real. Do you think that made Ronaldo make up hus mind. But what the FUCK, why is Scolari getting involved in Uniteds and Voldemorts business? Unless it is because he will be Cheslki boss next season and is afraid that Ronaldo will killl his side…

Apart from Quaresma, Nan is the next best thing to Ronaldo. Hear me now! I am not saying he is a direct replacement, just the best available and he is already ours. Gice him 2 more years like Fergie gave Ronaldo and see what happens.
Grognard, how can you slag off Cruz for not playing well for Bayern, when Podolski doesnt exactly set the world on fire for his club either? I know you hate Latin America players, but you cant honestly say you rate Podolski over tevez. Unless you meant he compliments Rooney more than tevez. If thats the case then sorry for the confusion.
Sad to see Ronaldo wants out, but Im glad its over with. Its kinda when you know you and your girl are done, but your just waiting for her to drop the axe. I am with RedDevil on this one. If they want him so bad, lets drag them over the coals during this transfer. It actually worked in our favor, because Madrid talked themselves past the point of no return so there is no way they cant walk away from him this summer. So I say 40 million plus sneijder and Ramos.

The reason Podolski hasnt set the world alight at Bayern is because he is on the bench 19/25 games. Only the legendary Old can be rates as a world star if he gets thatmany games from the bench. At Koln he was a star, he has scored many goal for Bayern since he is a “super-sub” all season long. I too would take Podolski over Tevez, becuase I simply believe Podolski is a better player. I do not rate him only by the WC and EC, but his time at Koln and Bayern too. Tevez is a world class player, great and amazing, love the guy, but I would take Podolski oover him. But I dont agree on the others. I would take Scholes and Anderson over Ballack and Frings. I would take Rooney over Klose, Torres and Villa. I would take VDS over Lehmann. I would even take Nani over Shweinsteiger!

van der vaart to utd would be amazing! and he can help attract huntlaar as well. Ronaldo out and VDV Huntelaar in would be very good indeed.
then we can properly play a 4-4-2 with huntelaar/saha (or saha replacement – how about Santa Cruz or even Podolski) Rooney (or tevez) upfront, nani (giggs) & vdv (park) on the wings, andy/carrick/Oh/scholes in the middle. back 4 of evra rio vida (brown as cover) & ramos (neville). wud need decent cover for evra & possibly rio as well.
I dont think people realistically believe we can tempt schnider from real. he hasnt indicated if he would be willing to leave real. we can get somebody like ramos or drenthe although.

i’d say take even somebody like robben… like replacement, quality player and we were after him earlier too. and he wud be surplus there when ronaldo joins! i’d take robben over robinho! only prob is he is saha clone in the sense he also spends substantial time in the sickbay!
has anybody noticed how resilient ronaldo is to injuries although he rides so many challenges!!! that is some super ability really!

Johnsom33; It’s simple. Podolski has had injury problems the last year and when he returned he had two world class strikers in front of him in Toni and Klose. Not really given a fair chance to shine but he was fantastic in the last ten games or so of the season when he got some playing time. He scored some sizzling goals. Also, he is acknowledged by anyone who knows the game as a world class talent. Santa Cruz never had the injury problems and he couldn’t beat out Claudio Pizzaro for crying out loud. That should tell you everything. In fact the Hamburg striker Guerrero played more than Santa Cruz when he was at Bayern and was considered the #4 striker. Finally, I think Podolski has put any debate to rest in the Euros by being Germany’s best and most consistent player over the four games. 3 goals and an assist and causing havoc down the right side despite having a sore ankle and a cyst on his foot as well.
And I’m sorry but I would take Podolski over Tevez any day of the week. A far more dynamic and talented player. I’ll admit though that Tevez is still a very fine player who works his butt off and never quits. Still Podolski has more talent and pace.
And I don’t hate Latin players at all. I wish you wouldn’t make claims like that. Liking players is one thing, trusting their motives and true intentions is another. I don’t trust them to ever feel content and happy with life and playing football in England. Yes there will always be a few that do but most of them want the warm weather and cultural advantages that they relate to more in Spain and Italy. That’s not me hating them. That’s me seeing through them.

Jos, the reason CR7 is not susceptible to injuries, is because he never tackles anyone. I have only ever seen him go in once where it hurts, and that is against Roma away, where he was winded getting that super headed goal. Otherwise nothing. He is piss poor at recovering a ball when he has lost it too, because he doesn’t try!.
Ronaldo has said to sky tv, that he doesn’t care about how Fergie or the fans feel, because it is his opinion that matters to him, and the Madrid train only comes by once in a lifetime. He admits Scolari had a part in encouraging him to go to Madrid. I just want him removed from our club as quickly as possible. What grieves me, is that Ronaldo admitted to sky that he had made his mind up after the Moscow game, so he has lied through his feckin back teeth all this while saying he hadn’t made his mind up – LIAR!. I don’t care that he wants to leave, I never have done. There will always be life after Ronaldo, nobody is irreplaceable, and I mean that. I do mind that he has dragged this on for so long, til Fergie believed that it was Real Madrid doing all the pushing and underhanded stuff, but seems like it was Ronaldo all along. That’s why I find CR7 disgusting. Ronaldo is in love with Ronaldo and has no love left in his heart for anyone else.

RedDevil; Yes, it was. Wasn’t it a cracker? The kid is class and although I love Bayern I think they have treated him terribly. I love Toni and especially Klose but they didn’t need to sign both of them. Klose was not necessary as he was settled and pretty happy at Bremen.
Now they are talking about buying Gomez. The rumors are Gomez to Bayern and Podolski to Stuttgart in a swap and some cash to Stuttgart as well. Bayern need a AMF like Ballack, not a 4th world class striker. Can you imagine if they buy Gomez and keep Podolski? That won’t happen but still, I applaud Bayern’s aggressive attitude to improve. I wish they were like that at OT instead of acting like a bunch of old men at Whitehall sipping team and telling war stories in the Polo lounge.

RR; The second coming of Deisler arrived this year at Bayern. His name is Toni Kroos. He’s an AMF/LMF and his skills are eerily similar. Tremendous left foot who can cross like Beckham and has a great passing skills and finesse. He also has a fierce shot. He’s only 17 and he WOW’ed me in his first few opportunities. Once he get s conditioned to the pace and quality of the Bundesliga this boy will be the best player in Germany and Ballack’s heir. I’d say sing him but Bayern would never let him go. They know they have gold. He even looks a little like Deisler and wears his hair the same way.

Ronaldo is and has been dead to me for a while now. Nothing he says or does bothers me or concerns me anymore. I just want to make sure that United don’t give him away like they did RVN and that they do something dynamic to replace him and add to the team. Sneijder for me is a must because Ronaldo would be in essence taking his spot in the starting 11. So it’s a natural trade off. 75 mil and Sneijder. Then go out and buy Vander Vaart and Huntelaar and built United into the Dutch National team.

what Grognard… both Schnider & VDV!!! How many midfielder we would have then??? Unless there are plans of shunting out Fletch & Scholes that wouldnt happen…
But yea even if one of them arrives it would be excellent.(my pref is VDV simply coz he is available for cheap.. schnider’s transfer might be much much more complicated and he might or might not be tempted to move to utd from real)

Van der Vaart can also be used as a striker, so i wont rate him as a midfielder. He plays in the Cantona role, behind the striker, but can move anywhere around midfield too. He would play like this:
VDS
Neville Rio Vida Pat
Carrick Anderson Owen
VdV
Rooney Tevez.
