Manchester United have sent scouts to watch FC Porto right-back Ricardo Pereira, according to reports.
The 23-year-old was watched by scouts from both us and Tottenham Hotspur during Porto’s 1-0 win over Tondela at the weekend.
United have been linked to a number or right-backs over the summer despite already having one of the best in the Premier League in Antonio Valencia.
The Sun are now reporting that we are looking at Pereira, for whom Porto have only priced at £20 million – which in this summer’s market appears to be pretty cheap.
However, any deal would not come so easy, as the report also states that Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham have all expressed interest in the two-time Portuguese international as well.
Ricardo Pereira spent the past two seasons on loan at Nice in Ligue 1 for whom he helped clinch a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot with a surprise third-place finish last season.
The full-back has impressed Porto head coach Sergio Conceicao that he is now part of the first-team squad, having originally broke through in 2013-14 but never holding down a regular spot.
As well as already having Antonio Valencia on the books, Timothy Fosu-Mensah looks like a very bright prospect for the future and is currently on loan at fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace, gaining invaluable first team experience.
Whether we go ahead and make a move for Ricardo Pereira remains to be seen but at £20 million it could be some very good business given the list of top European clubs that also rate the player.
