MANCHESTER UNITED TEAM NEWS

Manchester United’s chance of closing the gap with Liverpool could take a serious blow if they drop points against Everton.

The Red Devils are on a great run at the moment, with Jose Mourinho’s side remaining unbeaten since last October. However, what has been bothering Mourinho and the United fans is their incapability to turn draws into victories, especially at Old Trafford.

On Saturday, they were held to yet another frustrating 0-0 draw against West Brom at home – their eighth draw at Old Trafford this season.

Mourinho has real defensive problems ahead of their home clash against Everton. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have both suffered injuries during the international break, while Marcos Rojo won’t be returning from South America until Thursday.

Juan Mata is another player who is a long-term injury absentee. The Spaniard underwent groin surgery last week, and no specific timescale has been given on his return.

Manchester United predicted starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Rojo, Shaw, Carrick, Fellaini, Rashford, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Ibrahimovic.

EVERTON TEAM NEWS

The Toffees are heading into the match on the back of a demoralising 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Ronald Koeman could take a leaf out of Tony Pulis’ book, and try to frustrate United by maintaining a solid defensive shape.

Everton will be without right-back, Seamus Coleman, who has suffered a broken leg whilst on international duty. Mason Holgate is likely to fill in at his position.

Yannick Bolasie is a long-term absentee, while Muhamed Besic is unlikely to be available as well.

Koeman has admitted that Morgan Schneiderlin will miss the game against his former club. Funes Mori will need a knee surgery after he was stretchered off in Argentina’s 2-0 loss to Bolivia.

Everton predicted starting XI: Robles, Baines, Jagielka, Williams, Holgate, Gueye, Barry, Davies. Calvert-Lewin, Lukaku, Barkley

MANCHESTER UNITED VS EVERTON PREDICTION

United are a tough side to beat at home. The Red Devils must capitalise on the home wins in order to put pressure on other top four rivals.

Everton, on the other hand, have struggled to win away from home in recent matches. However, they will be looking to frustrate the home team by staying resolute at the back.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Everton
