Well that’s it. Frankly I am sick and tired and totally fed up with the whole state of affairs. And for those of you who are fed up with me being fed up well all I can say is, TOUGH TITTIES. That wasn’t football on display today folks. That was boring drudgery and a rude dystopian view at our future unless something is done soon. Our lack of urgency, desire, imagination, and movement off and on the ball and lack of pride with no killer instinct is alarming. And those are the positives. Just a total disgrace. Otelul is the kind of team that you destroy 6-0 and pepper with 20 shots at goal. At halftime the shots at goal favored us 2 to 1. Enough said. I pity the fools who paid their hard earned money to go sit through that yawner. I also noticed thousands getting up and leaving with ten minutes left in the game. Get a clue Fergie you washed up old coot. If the game has finally passed you by then please do us all a favor and retire before you continue to destroy the great legacy you took 24 years to build before this season. Will the real Manchester United please show up or are they gone for good?

  • Dear Groggy,
Fuck off and support Bayern then.
    Much Love,
Real fans who only have one team.

  • Grognard you are one of the reasons this site is nothing compared to what it used to be. You’re incredibly biased, there’s nothing about how to improve anything. Your ‘journalism’ is just a hyped up comment. One of your old rants.

You’re obviously forgetting about United’s preseason passing football. Football that took us past City in the charity shield, with passing that could rival Barca’s. What about beating Arsenal 8-2?

Every United fan has witnessed United play shit and not gone on about that short periods where the football isn’t amazing, going on about Fergie losing the plot.

Criticism is one thing, but you don’t even come up with anything to solve the problem.

You’ve gone on about United being shit for years and all I’ve seen is United play uninspired football before Christmas and then go on to become comfortable and win honours.

    You’re ruining this website.

  • Actually saying to watch Bayern Munich because ‘they play nice football’.

You are ridiculous. I don’t think United have been playing great football as of late, but this really is a joke. I said it was a mistake letting you write on here. I hate to give an older man crap, because I’d think somewhere down the line you deserve my respect, but (and you won’t listen to this, although we’ve said it before) you have no clue about the cultural value of football.

You can be negative, but this is ridiculous. It’s insulting to people’s intelligence, they have eyes, they can see United aren’t playing amazingly at the minute, you just make it worse.

And you abuse your position. The worst thing is, I think you’ve missed a lot about football, you think certain players have little talent, when you have no clue.

You’re deluded. Support Bayern, go and support them. But if they lose Ribery and Robben like last season and go into the bottom half, then don’t come back to United. Football is not a 50/50 thing, support Bayern Munich if you don’t like United.

I’m sure, as United fans, we’d all be happy for you to leave this website.

  • Bye lads, I’ve pondered about returning for some time now but I see that things are as bad, if not worse, on this site than it’s ever been. Not blaming all of you of course, those who know me well know what and which person it is that has driven me away for good. This is seriously becoming laughable, ridiculous, and not got a single touch of reality with it.

All the best to all of you, and I really mean all of you. Despite having arguments with people on this site in the past I’ve seen positives and good human beings in all of you, so I consider each and every one of you to be close to my heart. Good bye.

    • [OPTI]Madschester United

      Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

      • This is borderline suicidal to read. This will probably be the last thing I write here so let’s just make this clear.

        1. If anyone can possible tell me the last time United played a “decent” Champions League group game I would be very pleased. Although beating Wolfsburg 3-1 in 2009 we were battered with Carrick and Fletch in defence, scoring on three counters, so I can’t count that. The last good one I can think of is when we beat Celtic 3-0 in 2008, also the last time Berba scored in the Champions League.

        2. Rooney is not a midfielder. Spraying 30-50 yards passes all over the pitch doesn’t make you a midfielder. Wazza didn’t control the tempo, often droppen too deep, and in Romania Michael Carrick contributed more to our passing in the last third than what Wazza did yesterday. His goal was also horrible deflected. Ando did a shit job, but can’t exactly say he was helped out… Nani was equally bad.

        3. Chicharito is really exposing his weaknesses. How anybody can include him in their United first XI is beyond me! His touch looks even worse than last season, his runs are poorly timed, and he gets offside in the most odd occasions. It’s excruciating, and although he probably is the best GOALSCORER on the planet, he must be the worst footballer I have ever seen.

        4. Berbatov is so low on confidence I bet even Taibi is a better striker than him these days, he looks too hurried and too willing to get included and do the marvellous! I’ve been on Berba’s back for not working hard enough, but that is when the other team is in possession. He doesn’t cover much ground or track back, but when in possession he is a genious. These days he seems to hesitate and doubt himself when he gets the ball. It’s painful.

        5. You want a positive? How about this being the first time since February that we have managed 3 clean sheets in a row. You forgot that one Sherlock?

Like I said Mads, there is nothing on here that actually resemblances a United fan, not even a footballing fanatic. Grog may have watched the game for 50 odd years, but some of the crap I read on here is seriously painful. He seems to have no knowledge of how football works these days, and with all due respect Groggy, I seriously think you need to have a more broad view on the modern game. You may have watched it longer than me, but I know it better than you. And don’t come back with experience, I’ll see you in a couple of years when I dominate teams on the pitch. Cheers lads, all the best.

        • Moscow is my heaven

I agree with all 5 points Eddi mi man. I think this is Grog’s way of expressing his frustration at the current run of form. Now, whatever the reasons for this poor form may be, different people treat stress in different ways. He would not be going through this trouble if he wasn’t passionate about United.

Don’t leave, you are a strong character on this blog and I enjoy reading your posts even if I don’t agree with them sometimes.

    • I hate to admit it Eddy, but your 100% right. The community is finally dead here. I simply do not enjoy the nature of discussion on here anymore. Its a shame that although the site improved us posters did not. If you want to get a hold of me Im on twitter @mikethejohnson.

I wish you all the best.

  • [OPTI]Madschester United

How Rimmer allows this to pass as content on this site is beyond me, especially since he trumped his “Content is King.”

Groggy, no one forces you to watch 90 minutes of United, so don’t blame United. If you’re sick of the team, go watch Bayern or Madrid or FC Canada. If you’re willing to discuss what can be improved (like your awesome analyzed transfer lists), please do.

Based on title, I was actually expecting to partake in a quiz, not read off Groggy’s weird answers (enema? plumb girl with BO?) to his made-up quiz… seriously, does this represent any value to this site? It’s barely funny….

On “10. Manchester United has zero chance of reaching this year’s Champions League Final”:
How high was United’s chance of reaching the final last year or the last four years? Probably the same as now — i.e. not zero. You cannot reasonably expect to reach the ECL final EVERY year… not even Bayern does that, so why whine about that?

You are obviously frustrated with United like most of us, unfortunately, you get free reign to publish whatever you want at redrants. I really thought you were beyond that since your last venture into public United bashing.

  • [OPTI]Madschester United

I do like the idea of a quiz, by the way, as a means to gauge reader opinions.

  • [OPTI]Madschester United

    @Rimmer,

I assume redrants will publish an article to commemorate Fergie’s 25 years in charge or at least a Best Manager to along with your Best XI Series.

    • No, because it wont generate as much advert traffic as this sensationalist tripe. It’d be fine if this was a comment posted in a serious article, which then we could down vote to hell for its biased drivel. For it to be the article is pure madness.

I expect this sort of level of ‘journalism’ from the likes of RAWK of any of the bitter blue forums. Not from a previously respected United blog.

      • Traverse….scroll up. I’ve been running a series on United’s best XI for a while now and it culminates this month. I started it before it was cool to because SAFs 25yrs are in the news. therefore, I think your a tad out of order but that’s your general take on things.

        • You are from Manchester mate, do you really want this on a website you endorse? If yes, good luck to you.

        • Thanks for that mate.

And yes, I do want it….I also want the other – more positive opinion – to be represented on here, unfortunately, it isn’t always possible. When I find the right person to offer us that it’ll happen asap.

The irony is mate, when I first showed up here I was called a **** for banning Grognard….now I’m being called a **** for allowing him to contribute.

Fact of the matter is……it’s a tricky balancing act asking people to dedicate their time and effort for free to keeping this going, Grognard does that and at the moment I fear
he’s lost his way. Typical for an internet community to change its face in the blink of an eye and turn on him/me as it suits…..good luck to you if you feel part of that.

        • If it is a simple lack of options and contributors then I apologise mate. This site drowns in negativity at times, the constant moaning about Fergie, his tactics and the fact we don’t play sumptuous football in every game! People forget we are Champions and we should be delighted at that fact, sorry if you felt I was having a pop mate.

        • Perhaps if the club played well and offered people like myself honest and tangible reasons to be positive then I would be. Being positive for the sake of being positive is not my cup of tea mate and nor should you try to force feed me with that line of bull.

        • No problem Steve, there was no malice in what you said so there was none taken, I’m pretty thick-skinned anyway.

        • Lost my way? What exactly does that mean? I am no different than I have ever been. Over the last six years I have been negative when the club has given me reasons to be negative. When they play attacking fast paced football then I am more than positive. This is such a load of BS and a very unfair indictment against me as nobody seems to remember the sugar injected positive shite I was writing for the first month of the season when I loved the football on display.

Memories are conveniently forgetful when it comes to laying down condemnation aren’t they? I’ve lost my way? What way is that? Am I supposed to write a dishonest sugar injected load of drivel for the Moral Majority on here to read and cheer at? Or do you want me to write honestly and from the heart. It’s not my fault many wear blinders and cannot see things for what they are. Frankly, to quote Jack Nicholson, “they can’t handle the truth”. Instead I am supposed to get motivated, go to my laptop and write a long article with platitudes and positives after watching a match that reminded me of paint drying on a wall?

Me thinks you and others demand too much from me and so it’s up to you as to where you want to go from here. I will not be a phony and I will not do a disservice to myslef and to this blog by trying to be anything but the person I am, and the same person that love me or hate me, stirs the drink.

Nothing would give me greater joy than to write something positive about United, like we actually spent some money on midifelders or Fergie has stepped down and taken the Glazer’s with him. I am sick of the great man’s style of football on display these days and so I am more than willing to blaspheme and point fingers because unlike many who actually share the same feelings, I at least have the bollocks and my conviction for the truth and it sustains me. Lost my way? I don’t think so. More like lost my tolerance for rotation, sloth paced football, Anderson, Park, Evra, and tactics from England’s Dark Ages.

        • Okay, let me spell it out for you…..

I’ll turn over to watch Bayern Munich = Lost your way.

Sorry, but that isn’t what I think the majority of RedRants’ community wants published on here.

If you honestly think this article is of the standard required = you REALLY have lost your way.

People haven’t forgotten about your/our early season compliment -fest, EVERYONE can see there’s problems and would be doing things differently BUT, most can appreciate this team is ‘work-in-progress’ and are prepared to give it time, that doesn’t translate to ‘towing the line’, it’s called SUPPORTING your club. By all means have a rant and have an opinion but at least do it in a way befitting of someone who’s privileged enough to be getting published on what is *IN MY OPINION* a steadily improving site.

        • I’m done, I really do not need this backstabbing shit.

        • Unfortunate fact. If you put your self in the shop window expect to be criticized. If you can not take criticism dont put your self in the shop window

        • Id say all the loud video adverts that appear across the bottom of the site beg to differ.

And as for things I say being out of order, thats why they are in the comments section and not in the article. And that is the whole point.

      • Journalism? WTF?????? Get a grip man. Nobody here considers himself a journalist and nobody here takes himself that serious nor does he get paid so as for my tripe, why don’t you try swallowing it with a little humility and tolerance. Christ man I’m only showing displeasure for a football team, not stealing your job or your wife. Get a grip and find some fucking perspective.

        • The fact that nobody on here except Eddie Griffin seem to take their writing seriously is probably causing a lot of the problems here. His stuff is well written, informative and a pleasure to read whether you agree with him or not.

Your stuff is an angry forum post masquerading as an article.

    • Thank God for all of you it won’t be written by me. :-D :-D

  • The lunatics are finally running (and ruining) this asylum.

  • Anyway, someone was talking about solutions. I have the solution. Ha ha

    1. Michael Carrick to be played every game

    2. Michael Carrick to be played every game as a holding midfielder

    3. Michael Carrick to be partnered with one of Anderson, Cleverly or Giggs in every game

    4. Michael Carrick to play in front of a consistent defence

    5. Michael Carrick to play behind a consistent attacking 5

    6. Michael Carrick to be made consulting authority to the coaching dept

    7. Michael Carrick’s technical authority to be final

    8. Michael Carrick to contact Xabi Alonso and Bastian Schweinsteiger for contract negotiations next June

    9. Michael Carrick to be given Manchester United chequebook to sign said players

    10. Michael Carrick to be loved and appreciated by all Manchester United football fans as a demonstration of patriotism

  • Am I wrong in thinking that writers like tv presenters and punters are supposed to be confronting their readers with positive and negative sides of any discussion/article??? To put both sides of an arguement for debate? That it is then the readers opportunity to support or refute said article, with their take on things in the comments section, but without getting personal or abusive to the writer? Or to other commenters. I have to say that with so many of the posters on here ALL SAYING THE SAME THING – that the material has got to the point of far too much negativity, and judgementalism in any said articles posted on the blog – that we have to listen and try to change the mood of the articles. I know that if I am presented with a continual stream of negativity, or if I get into negative content too much myself – then I depress myself if you know what I mean, and have to look for ways to lighten the content of my comments. Otherwise it can get to others on the blog who just get tired or upset by what they are reading, and we should not want to be the proponents of rankling others continually – that is not giving due respect to others feelings, and I don’t want to be someone who continually disregards the thoughts and feelings of others. I have my strong opinions, course we all do, and freedom to voice them – but when it comes to so many folk now saying they want a change in the way some articles are written and presented, and less constant criticism – then I think we need to listen and take note. Everybody can’t be wrong! We might think Fergie makes wrong team choices, tactics, etc etc – I mean all managers get their share of criticism from fans, and also that certain players have certain weaknesses, flaws etc – but it is the tone of the way we present that criticism that perhaps irritates the fuck out of others when they come to read the blog. I used to love winding up Rooney fans, but I realised that it was making some Rooney fans pissed off – so as I don’t want to just spend time irritating the fuck out of fellow United fans, but still be honest about my take on things, then I am learning to try and express my thoughts and comments in different and more acceptable ways. I may not always succeed – but I do try. You will have to excuse the language and debate post games sometimes when I have had a few bevvies and come on site to let off steam!

  • I feel for Phil Jones – who just can’t seem to get that first goal he so deserves. He has been very close to it, and it makes me wonder if once he scores he won’t stop. I would like that for him – even tho he isn’t a striker.

  • Grognard if you really have Fergie, United and England so much why don’t you just support Bayern? Ian, you really have to look at yourself here, you are indulging him and man on here simply are not interested. All I hear is people moaning about how hard it is to watch United, how Fergie hasn’t got a clue, ho we are so dull to watch. This season in the league we have managed to score an average of just under 3 a game. People have been spoilt under Fergie and if you don’t like I suggest you support someone else , if it makes you that miserable. Most of the moaners have only support United for the past 10 seasons when we have been successful, what happens if we do a Liverpool or even a Leeds, oh yes you well be supporting someone else……
    FERGUSON’S RED AND WHITE ARMY!!!

    • I have been very clear and very loud about how I feel like a spoilt supporter. For 23 out of 25 years Fergie has indeed spoilt many of us and I for one would love to go back to those day where the style and artistic quality of our game was at it’s peak even if we didn’t always win silverware. Fact is we did win a lot of silverware playing beautiful football. The last two years and especially the last month has not been a treat to watch overall and as a disgruntled and spolit fan I have all rights to condemn, complain, bitch and whine whether your glass half full fragile ego can handle it. Stop trying to force others into thinking in your manner because we are all individuals and we all have different motivations, desires and stimuli that create who we are. I can only be true to myself and if you cannot accept and respect that, then it is you who is intolerant and negative, not me. How do you like them apples?

      • “Stop trying to force others into thinking in your manner”

You seem to be bullying people to think in your manor, or that is what your attitude is saying even if it is not your intention

  • Craig – supporting United 20 years and counting. Though I think it little matters how long you have been a United supporter, it is if you are a TRUE NEVER SAY DIE RED that matters where I’m concerned – be it one year or 50. I would love to know though who has the most years supporting United on this blog – I am very respectful of the true United support old timers. I think Fred must be up there – don’t give me a bollocks-ing if I am wrong about that Fred   .

    • No it doesn’t mate, but my point is that a lot of people have only been supporting since we have been successful under Fergie. His legacy and the continued success we have had had is down to him and calling him a “washed up old coot” is a disgrace.
If you don’t like it, support someone else, good riddance.

      • A washed up old coot mate – who called him that, and were they being serious? Anyway, I got what you were saying in your post mate – so no problema. I didn’t read thru the article, because the upset and reaction of the commentors – I was afraid too – such a coward at times    :-D .

    • Nuevo-15 years and counting
For anyone who’s not local that number should be doubled.

I have always made it a point to watch any match immediately after a bad defeat. Thats my way of showing support to my United. unfortunately after the shitty defeat i could not watch either of the PL /CL fixtures as i am in the middle of a house move. So reading the blog today after almost 2 weeks was a gut wrenching experience. I have become used to(kind of) the doom and gloom over the years but reading about Fat ugly girls etc. was too much for me so i left it there and moved to the comments.
With due respect to freedom of speech, content has to be readable for the posters (old and new) to feel welcome on the board.

      • Wooo-ah 15 years – love that Nuevo, but more so that you watch all games thru win or lose – but then I thought all us United fans do that. I must shamefully confess I could NEVER watch the Wastelanders 6-1 again – too painful a watch mate :-D

    • Yeah mate I’ve been supporting the club for 36 years now but that carries zero weight or credibility on here. In fact immature assholes even accuse me of being a traitor or worse on here just because I do not fall into line with the rest of the Conformist Chimp Posse.

  • Redrants has been rated best bayern munich blog…Congratulations to Grognard..

    • My comment about watching Bayern was not showing a preference for them but for the way they played the game on Wednesday. They passed and moved beautifully and I was so jealous that we do not do the same. But naturally, you and others would take that and use it incorrectly to attack me. I wouldn’t expect anything but that form you as you are just too predictable.

  • Well I guess this last article got a lot of you a little hot under the collar. Sorry bout that. Honestly, I am at a loss as to what is expected of me as a member of this blog and as a writer?

Do you expect of me to follow Daniele’s match reviews with a carbon copy? What I offer is a match analysis most of the time based on what I felt I saw and how it made me feel. I admit that over the past month each report has been negative and gotten progressively worse but is that really my fault? I honestly don’t think so. In fact I would point a finger directly at Sir Alex Ferguson and his band of muppets running Manchester United as well as some of the players who are either not playing up to par or are just plain not playing.

It’s easy for all of you to shoot the messenger but the fact is that I have not felt good about this team for over a month now and the rot seems to be getting worse, not better. I am not an evil individual despite what many of you may think of me and Bayern Munich is not my first choice but I think all of you ask the impossible of me. You are all asking me to be anyone else but myself. You are demanding a phony because your fragile tempers and ego’s cannot handle the truth.

This article was my attempt to inject some cynical and sarcastic humor to the proceedings because after the match midweek, I honestly never had the juice or desire to sit at my computer and write another scathing negative analysis of the match that was just completed. God damn it folks, I have a soul and I can only tolerate so much pain and torture.

United are boring the living fuck out of me and I unlike many of you does not sit back and just take it with a thank you and a demand for some more please. I care about this team and like I have said many times in the past, I am a perfectionist. I do not tolerate or subscribe to mediocrity. I like nice things, buy the best brands, watch the best shows, listen to classy music, love fine film and wear quality clothes. I also support classy sports teams of which Manchester United has been a part of for as long as I can remember.

But I am also hard on the things and those people I love. Like Steve Jobs I can be a giant asshole when I don’t get my way and when I expect perfection, I do not actually expect it literally but I assume the club’s I support will try damn hard to attain it. Frankly mates, I have that right. And you have that right to disagree with my thinking and methodology. I don’t mind that you do not like or agree what I am writing of late. I don’t either. That’s the thing none of you seem to get or register in your minds, that I do not like or relish the opportunity to write and publish scathingly negative articles about Manchester United.

Go back to the first month of the season and read what I wrote then. How many of you were teasing me back then for being too sweet and having sold my soul to the man and having gone soft etc? Amazing how my positive outlook infuriates and frustrates you people as much as my negative writing. Frankly mates, there’s just no pleasing any of you. You are all just determined to shit on me no matter what I say. So I have decided to say what I must and what I feel. Sorry, I do not mean to offend anyone but I have to be true to myself and I have to be honest with my views and my feelings.

Right now Manchester United is boring the living fuck out of me. Sorry to you loyalists who sit through 90 minutes of tedium and clap with joy after we take three points off of a minnow or we get slaughtered in a derby. I am a different animal and I do not beat to the same drummer. If that makes me a lesser fan than you, then it’s a cross I can bare and a badge I wear with pride. Fact is I sell out to nobody and I stand by my convictions and all of you can bad mouth me, insult me and belittle my efforts if that helps you get through the night.

Right now I am receiving heat from all of you as well as from Rimmer and to be honest, I am pissed off not that you disagree with me or hate my views, but that you do not respect my right to voice them and to the fact that somehow I need to fall in line or conform to some preordained expectation when it comes to post match articles. Well I won’t. Instead I will leave the content and climate of my articles up to Manchester United and Fergie. Let the team force positive vibrations and happy faces from me. Certainly none of you are going to bring out that with your scathing and blatantly unfair comments. Let me have it, I can take, I’m a big boy. I write from the heart and I write with honesty. If many of you cannot respect that despite the negativity, then I feel sorry for you.

I don’t get paid for this gig and I am fine without it believe it or not. I do it because I love my team and like a father who has seen his kids take the wrong path in life I am disappointed and upset. And as a paying supporter who buys tv cable packages in order to watch the team thousands miles away, as well as dishes out money for merchandise licensed by the club, it is my right to support the club as I see fit, not as you do. Sorry I offend your sensibilities but telling me to fuck off or to support Bayern instead is not mature nor is it fair either. I respect all of you to have the right to support any way you choose and to write what you feel regardless of whether I agree or not. All I ask is for the same courtesy and respect. After six years on this blog I think I earned a little bit of that.

    • Grog I don’t understand mate – but if as you say you are going to continue writing just as you FEEL, then you must excuse many on here who do not choose to read or comment on any more of your articles mate – I think it will be nigh on total boycott. I don’t want to see that happen, but a lot of folk have made themselves clear that they don’t want to hear a lot of what you have got to say in your articles – I know you can be stubborn mate – just like me, but really? It will be pointless mate to continue to so strongly stick to your guns and not expect colateral damage – and this is coming from a friend. Mate it is alright to have an opinion in the comments side of the blog, but when you are writing articles for debate – there needs to be both sides of the arguement – the strengths and the weaknessess. If this makes you fall out with me mate – then sorry about that truly. So many people have complained and are pissed off at the content of your articles, and if you choose to continue ignoring their protests, then the sad thing is that either your articles will be boycotted by many, or perhaps others will walk until there is a change. I personally think the outcry is to big to ignore – but maybe I am wrong – time will tell mate!

      • Now that really pisses me me off mate. You were the loudest of the loud a month and a half ago when you and others accused me of selling out and becoming all politically correct and sweet as pudding. You all cried and bitched for the old Grognard to return and all I said back then was that I had total faith in Fergie to bring back the old Grognard at some point in the season. It didn’t take him long and I reluctantly returned and honestly spoke about the club and what bothered me. The fact that people cannot respect what you so eloquently argued in a post above about tolerating many views for the good of debate seems to now mean nothing to you as you have done a 90 degree turn and now you are hinting that I need to tone it down.

Just WTF do you and others expect from me? I have been given the duty of writing a post match an analysis that gets published after Daniele offers up a more description based and even oriented review of the match. United bored the socks off me in the last match. They totally lacked passion, desire, imagination and killer instinct and allowed a minnow with zero talent to hang on and hope for a miracle. In 90 minutes of play I counted three strong scoring opportunities and a deflected goal. Now how am I suppose to respond to this and still keep my dignity and prevent throwing up? You tell me. I at least stick by my convictions and am true and honest with my feelings. I don’t like being negative despite what others think. And again i point out the articles and posts I wrote the first month of the season which were so positive they made you and others question my sanity. I can’t win for losing with you people and sometimes the lack of respect and appreciation for my efforts makes me wonder why I bother, seriously. People need to chill out and grab some perspective. Above all, they need to understand that on a blog views and beliefs may vary and the more the merrier. Tolerance and respect of all views is what’s needed, not an concerted effort to shut somebody up who has done nothing wrong and who has given his heart and soul to the betterment of this blog.

        • Grog there is a balance, and I am trying to find it, because in other threads it has only oft been the odd few who have been pissed with what they feel is negative, but this time it is so many of the regulars and others who are in outcry about so much negativity. I don’t just think it is you either, I never said that. At the end of the day it is down to Rimmers to make decisions regarding the content allowed. All I am saying is that if you are too bullish, then people will just avoid. I dont want to see that happen to you, because you have written some very good articles and posts – but its up to you mate. I think it is not that you feel and write for or against things, but more to do with the cryptic way and spirit of how you express your feelings. Oh jeez I may not be getting this over right – but I’m leaving it here mate – my input is over in this particular discussion. You know I would not deliberately do you down Grog, but I have said all this to try and help you see why other folk are not enjoying it anymore. I will leave it there – it’s done for me. Nobody is going to win this arguement mate : :-|

      • You really should take notice of this Grog.

  • i miss the ranting and chatting during the matches we had here.

  • Moscow is my heaven

What can you expect Grog to write about after Wednesday’s showing? A match review? That has already been done. How he feels about the game? I think he’s done pretty well to hold himself back from unleashing some real poison because I certainly had to restrain myself after WASTING 2 hours of my life watching Anderson trying to compete with Otelul fucking Galati. And life is too short for me to tolerate boring and unimaginative football :)

You say that Grognard has no solutions to the problems that we face, instead, he rants for the sake of ranting. Little do people realise that Grognard has made very clear from his years of posting exactly what the failures of the team are, how to improve the team accordingly, what is wrong with the running of the club, and how to change that. He has dedicated more essays than I can possibly count dissecting Fergie, the squad, the coaches and tactics, and especially the owners, who he identifies as the root of our illness. He has offered solutions, but unfortunately, he has not seen the club he loves and to which he has invested time and money in act upon their problems. He has exhausted every critical topic about the club to such an extent that there is now no point in regurgitating the stuff over and over again. Instead, he waits and with each passing season, he becomes more frustrated with ever diminishing expectations surrounding the club.

He is a more complex character than many appreciate, which is why his rants and ‘negativity’ appear to degrade and insult the club to the majority of you, when in fact it is just a show of ambition and the high standards he expects of the BIGGEST CLUB IN THE WORLD. So let’s hope the club realise their standing as the top club in the world, acquire a golden fucking midfield worthy of it, and assemble a team who will not only face up to the mighty Barcelona, but give them the whipping of their lives in the CL final at Munich, the city of our club’s phoenix rebirth.

    • Thank you mate. Seriously, thank you. Somebody that bloody gets it. What a revelation.

“Grognard has made very clear from his years of posting exactly what the failures of the team are, how to improve the team accordingly, what is wrong with the running of the club, and how to change that. Instead, he waits and with each passing season, he becomes more frustrated with ever diminishing expectations surrounding the club.”

And still nobody gets it and unfairly accuse me of all kinds of bs

    • tonymontanna4united

I thought the whole reason this place was so different and special, was because people were free to offer their own opinions, and express themselves, without having their support and loyalty called into question.
I mean for fucks sake weve had glazer debates without so much venom being chucked around so readily.
I think alot of it is because its grog really who seems to be the easy target round here. Hes only summing up what weve all been saying the last few weeks, and yet gets made out to be the scape goat round here, and rather childishly has his support thrown into question. I mean really guys, if the man cared so little about this club, would he still be taking the time and effort to write all these posts and articles?
Still i suppose its easier to merely have a pop at the guy and downplay everything hes been saying, rather than dare even let it cross your mind that maybe, just maybe, he does have a point, and that maybe things arent as rosey as some would have you believe.
I get that grog is a rather outspoken guy whose never one to mince his words (i for one love that) and that naturally, some people wont take kindly to that. But jesus, people saying hes the one driving people away from this blog, erm is he. Is he not creating debates, debates that all of us are getting into and having our say over.
I mean its usually the ones who come along later, who we dont hear a dicky word out of, coming from nowhere who start getting abusive and changing the tone of the place, not grog.
Grogs merley voicing his opinion, an opinion of which other people might not agree with, who have every right to then voice an opinion of their own, and outline why it is they feel that way (so long as theyre not abusive).
If anything, that makes this place a more interesting blog, where we can really gain an idea of where each and every one of us sits on the fence, and keeps us as far away as possible from going down the “official united website” route, where everyone agrees with everything and generally makes the place bland and boring as shite.

      • Tony, the opinion isn’t in question, the way in which it was delivered seems to be though.

      • Moscow is my heaven

        Absolutely spot on Tony.

        • Moscow – Tony:

Do you think the article was a good standard?

Would you like to see more of that format?

I also had to remove this before I published it:

What person is guaranteed to have no pulse?
          1) Steve Jobs
          2) JFK
          3) Taxman
          4) Robbie the Robot
          5) Max Headroom
          6) Fred Flintstone
          7) Buzz Lightyear
          8) Woody
          9) Dick Cheney
          10) Sir Alex Ferguson

Would you have an issue with that? Can you imagine the unrest if I’d let that go? It’s tasteless and childish.

It goes back to the same old story….’you can’t please all the people all the time’.

Stephen from Manchester says ‘are you going to allow this on the blog?’
TonyMontanna from Manchester says ‘I thought the whole reason this place was so different and special……’

Look, Grognards decided to knock it on the head, that’s his call. All he’s been asked to do is convey his opinion in a way that befits his responsibility, surely you can appreciate that? I’m trying to make the content better for everyone….not worse.

He hasn’t been asked to tone down his views or god forbid ‘conform’ so it’s all constructive stuff, obviously it’s not been taken that way….I mean jheeeez….even CraigMc has said so.

        • Moscow is my heaven

Here is a gem of a comment:

          “Fuck off and support Bayern.”

Charming. Now if you want my opinion, I believe that since you run this blog now, you should make a judgment based on what you want. You’re not going to change the way Grognard thinks and the stuff he writes, because he will call it as he sees it. If you are going to remove him as an author of this website, then I don’t think you will be short of candidates who will write the stuff that comforts the fragile and sensitive United fanbase (I’m surprised most of this blog hasn’t switched to RoM, because the guy in charge of that blog writes everything with blind faith towards United, the sort of soft bullshit Grog haters would love). The humour on this article was evidently lost on quite a lot of people :)

I think Grog’s posts are a breath of fresh air, but if what he writes is too upsetting for our delicate and comfort seeking community, then by all means make your call.

        • I’ve made a judgement and I’ve asked Grognard to convey his opinion in a different manner where the club is more important than how getting beat has affected HIS day, is that too much to ask for a writer to write considered posts and not utter bollocks like this one?

Read his opening paragraph, this is how it reads to me:

ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME.

He knew from the outset that it wasn’t good, people weren’t going to like it and he couldn’t be arsed to write anything else……I’m sorry, but he’s better than that, and you, me and everyone else should expect better on here.

Things that don’t have a pulse – Alex Ferguson – are you fucking serious?
Turn over to watch Bayern because they play nice football? – are you fucking serious? Do it by all means, but it’s not what you should expect from a writer on here.

        • It is about me you dickhead. It’s my point of view. United does not pay me to write positives about them. I write what I, ME feels about the game. Christ that has to be the dumbest thing you have ever said to me. Of course it’s about me. My view, my perspective, my opinion.

        • Thanks mate, but Grog is gone now and you won’t be hearing from him again. You and a few others get me and respect me as I do you but as for the moderator and some others on here, rebels without a fucking clue. I’m outta here. I don’t need this shit. I feel like shit having to deal with a lung infection and yet I still offered up my time to write my feelings only to get shit on by members and especially the guy who offered me the forum to write. I appreciated it and went with it and offered what I felt was the best I had, only for him and others to constantly piss on my efforts and question my allegiance. Enough.

        • tonymontanna4united

Ian, i can respect that mate, and i dont envy you in regards to the running of this blog, and deciding what is and isnt ok to publish.
So my beef really wasnt with you mate, you’ve done a bloody fantastic job with this place the last few months and you have my respect for that.
My beef really, if you can call it that, was with the people that
          a) come along once in a blue moon and basically slate/abuse members here and rather disrespectfully call into question the quality of this blog and its members, and
          b) those who whine and bitch at articles like this, but who cant be arsed to discuss, in a calm manner, why it is they dont agree with said view, and instead resort to childish put downs, questioning ones passion and support for this great team.

Ok now i know this particular post might have seemed a bit tasteless and disrespectful to some, and im sure grog will admit this maybe wasnt one of his better articles (although i can understand his anger and pain that has been building up over the last few weeks that had to be released in some way).
But even in other more serious, formal articles, where grog sets about addressing his concerns and gives his opinion, asking some serious questions, the response is usually just a turrent of put downs, his work totally dismissed as nothing more than the ranting of a raving lunatic. A simple, calm explanation, clearly stating why it is they dont go along with this line of thinking, whilst also outlining their own beliefs, would lead to a closer community in the end.
Anyway grog is a big boy and he doesnt need me to defend him here, im just trying to say that whilst this may not be one of his best pieces of work, the response and hysterical reaction afterwards was a bit ott to me.
This is a marvellous unique blog at the end of the day, and it is precisely that because people know they can express themselves and their opinions, without fear of having their support thrown into question unlike at manutd.com for instance. That was the idea anyway, before it seemed, people started to get a bit up themselves and started acting childish.

        • First part:

          Thanks

          Second:

Grog attacks people when they criticise him, and we’ve spoken about it regularly privately – people know he’ll bite but he continues to do it – that’s sometimes why he gets abused but he won’t change. But when you’re producing (I’m sorry Grog but…..) shit, like this, what can you expect? I tried to do this privately again with him but he’s publicly called it a day and obviously everyone’s got an interest in it so it’s out in the open now. My view is my view though, and if people think serving up that then saying ‘it’s ok Grog’ when the place goes into overdrive in a bad way, is good ‘blogging’ they’re wrong.

It’s not trolls/once-in-a-blue-mooners who have vented their disdain, it’s regulars who deserve to be served more intelligent articles. I’ll say it again….his opinion and his courage to write some of the things he does is great and rare but it’s not that I’m asking him to alter….it’s the way he conveys it. If all he wants to do is use the platform to write glorified forum posts then he can go back to commenting. I want to read about United and what he thinks is wrong or right etc, not what he thinks people are thinking of him or how many games of FIFA12 he’s had before his tea! Don’t you???

          Last bit:

It is unique and great people can express themselves, but there’s expression, and then there’s indulgence. At the moment Grogs indulging, and that’s not right.

Last month, RedDevilEddy calmly, clearly, intelligently questioned Grogs piece and a few people attacked him/defended themselves in a way that frightened Eddy off, do you think that was ok too? I don’t, because it’s an example that no matter how you approach it, certain people can’t accept criticism without reacting badly.

        • Adios. You won’t have me to back stab anymore.

        • Personally I thought it was funny because I often wonder if Fergie has a pulse out there sitting on his hands while his team does nothing. But then one would actually have to have a clue and a sense of humor to understand that it was all meant in jest.

        • There’s jest and there’s taste mate, it lacked the latter and had very little of the former.

        • Fergie25 from Manchester says it is disrespectful and childish and refelcts on the site owner that they would sanction a lead article like this. Can we remove this entire thread and celebrate as we should be this weekend

        • No, it’s happened. It’s unfortunate no one felt it important enough to offer a piece on how glorious the last 25yrs have been for the club thanks in the main to one man who now has the biggest area of our historic ground named after him. It’s a shame but we live and learn and we move on. This will forever live in the archives with many of Grognards better/classic articles.

There’ll be Daniele’s report, hopefully my report later tonight about the Academy’s win at Bolton 2-1 today and other articles to complete the Best XI series. Beyond that I’m in the progress of looking for a new writer.

tbh, there was/is a place for Grognards posts and always will be, it offers the other side of the coin. But when it’s the only one available after the Shaun having some problems and Eddie cutting his writing down too, it’s not sustainable.

The problem is…….everyone wants a balance, to get that I need writers with differing views. Writers = articles. More articles = balance, perspective, comprehensive detail/info. More articles also means = some people saying there’s too many articles :D Not enough writers = One man show ——— I/WE CAN’T WIN! :D but I’m trying :D

      • You’re wasting your time mate because Ian and the rest of the Conformist Clown Posse don’t get it. They never will. Instead they just lost the heart and soul of this blog for good and trust me, this time I am never fucking coming back. I bid you farewell mate as well as others who like you respected and were friendly to me. I wish all of you well, even my detractors. Hope one day you will all see the error of your ways and be ashamed of your attempts to censor my thoughts. You;d think I was spying for Russia or something. All I was doing was bitching about my football team who are presently playing like muppets. Big fucking deal. Get over it already. These people have issues but Ian will make it sound like I do. The only issue I have is the feeling of being betrayed, used and abused. No more.

        • You crave drama I have read this all before, this blog is becoming one persons stage so they can crave attention. It is not cool. This was a bloody good blog back in the day

    • This is not a united blog any more it is the Grobnard blog. A blog dedicated to a rude mans ego.

Sort your blog out admin I used to like it alot

  • Moscow is my heaven

I think the site suffers only when trolls come from absolutely nowhere and spit venom at the authors who have obviously spent a lot of time and effort providing this site with new threads and content.

    • So you think the article we’re commenting on now is good?

      • Moscow is my heaven

It doesn’t matter if it’s a careful analysis or an article like this one, he always gets venom and mindless bollocks for what he writes, so what’s the point?

        • Yes he does, but he gives is back. Writing very aggressive and negative articles provokes a reaction, for every action there is an opposite reaction. He is a big boy, I am sure he can take it.

        • I couldn’t disagree with that any more mate I’m sorry.

Check back over the articles Grog created such as the ‘Pitch-Kreig’ one. Ok it was a win and he was buzzing etc just like everyone else. But look beyond the article and see the format etc then see the comments section. From memory there’s no one spitting venom at him there. People just want an objective view weather we win, lose or draw, they don’t want all the personal grief that comes with a Grognard article after a poor performance and/or poor result.

  • because Ian and the rest of the Conformist Clown Posse don’t get it. They never will.

You really are an egotistical, disrespectful man.

I sincerely hope you get well soon and you make a full recovery mate, despite what you might think, I reckon those words speak on behalf of everyone regardless.

Thanks for work and the memories, goodbye.

    • It is clear the man has no respect, it has been clear for a long time I am just glad that other are now speaking out. This might help him to repect others

  • So much to debate about this great club right now and I have to read this. What is this guy on. It looks clear you have let a rival fan infiltrate your board. This can not be genuine some one has to be having a laugh

You have a lead writer with no respect for the club or English game. Over the past few weeks I have read comments such as Aldershot should not be allowed to play a club the size of united as they don’t earn enough money. A hard fought one nill win on a ground we have not won on for 4 year is treated like it is the end of the world and now this. Would i rather shag a fat sweaty bird than see the lads play. Cmon, for one it aint funny and secondly it is the sort of thing I would expect to see on RAWK

I asked Grodnard if he would comment on some possible solutions, but it seems any time I ask a question he avoids the answer or insults me

The boss is about to celebrate 25 years, Glazer has stung us for another load of money and if you were to pick a Manchester 11 right now city player would out way the lads from Old Trafford. So much to debate.

Just a note to our over seas supporters. I think you are a vital part of the club and what makes us special. I am a Manchester lad i was born here and come from a family of reds and blues. I was at school in the early 80′s and had to put up with glory hunting Liverpool fans. As City spend more and more cash and get better and better the most important thing becomes finishing above them. Unfortunately this is above all else. WE HAVE TO FINISH ABOVE CITY. Why? Well because life would be unbearable in the city called Manchester if the blue half finished above the red half and If you like it or not Manchester United is first and fore most a Manchester football club established for the people of Manchester and built by the people of Manchester

If I have to see some boring one nill scrapes this year and the boys finish above the blues then so be it. War is not pretty and the war between red and blue rages more than it has in my life time.

I would love to see more creative and positive subject matters discussed on this forum as in the most part this is a community made up of some good and passionate people

Congratulations and thank you Sir Alex. What you have done is beyond my dreams. Thank you for the good times and long may they continue. My love and respect to you.

    LUHG Red Army

    Thank you for reading

  • This is not a united blog any more it is the Grobnard blog. A blog dedicated to a rude mans ego.

  • So long Grog, you will be missed, but I would say you need to look at yourself mate. You are antiestablishment for the sake of it, supporting a manager who has given the club is everything, the fans more trophies than we could imagine isn’t conforming mate, It is called loyalty. Yes at stages this season we have been poor, but it is a long season and you cannot play well in every game. Fergie is not perfect, he makes mistakes but he is United through and through, are you?

  • Wow look what happens when I leave the site a few days :)

Grognard is not the only one who has been disappointed at the way we are reverted back to boring, uninspired football after such an exciting start to the season. As football fans we devote considerable amounts of time to following the club and it rankles when it seems our players lack passion.

I understand his post came from a place of deep hurt which he tried to cover up with sarcasm. So I was not offended. But I can understand why other people were offended. I think the coinciding with Fergie’s 25th Year did not help.

But then again if the editor didn’t like the post why publish it? And if he published it surely he should be defending the talent?

The response was predictable especially given the poster. It was bad judgement on his part. But bottom line it should not have been published which would have spared the original poster from attack and also stopped guys like Eddie taking offence

  • FFS – see Groggy I knew this was going to happen. Like I said nobody will win this arguement – and now you have walked. Sad Sad day mate – and if I am honest I always had a forboding that you offering to write articles would end badly. First because I know you are not going to hold back, and secondly because I knew people would not hold back on taking the opportunity to make known their concerns with what they see as so much negativity on the blog. I am again re-iterating what I said earlier – it is NOT JUST YOU, as a good few of us have poured forth our scorn with many things we are disconsolate and upset about, I count myself foremost in that. I think this has only erupted since you started to write articles, because in the comments section of the blog we all have freedom to speak our piece, and we have all taken a kicking at some point or other for our take on things :-D . Like I said sad day for me – to see you walk Grog. I wish you had just walked away from writing articles, and not from the blog entirely. All the best anyway mate, and get well soon. You need to get that lung infection sorted Grog because you seem to have had it pervading your body for weeks – not goo, so focus on your health mate!

  • Now I’m OFF to the game – COME ON YOU REDS, GIVE US LOTS OF GOALS PLEASE. Will talk to you when I get back home laterz!

  • Mr Patrice Evra I am sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you and your family.

    • me too…

i just read this and it offers some insight to his lack of focus in the derby. not that he needs an excuse but this was one if there ever was.

not sure why someone would vote down your comment maybe they havent heard… evras older brother died the night before the manchester derby. he played anyway and now is off on leave from united and france. :-|

  • Now never come back Grog…Plz keep your promise this time.

    • He will he always does. I think he is a drama queen and only does it for the attention. This blog should be called rednards grogs shouty moan blog

  • You lot on this blog are terrible. i’ve been reading theis blog for a shit long time and i for one am glad there’s someone like grog who won’t take the dross being served up laying down. I don’t get the fuss he’s one of the contributing writers and he has an opinion. It does not have to conform to anyone line of reasoning. Grog if you’re reading this; the first time i came on here i laid into you, after reading more of your thoughts i can only say congrats for speaking your mind. You lot on here can bury your head in the sand if you so wish. At least there’s someone trying to stimulate some kind of discussion that looks at the where United are. He’s right, let United bring out he positive vibes, real positive vibes not manufactured “oh well, we won” exhibit A: The Sunderland game going on right now. Nuff said

  • This went downhill as soon as i left.
